#93: Clayton Kim on Using AI Technology to Optimize Health and Performance with Fount

Clayton Kim is the COO of Fount, a company focused on creating the most comprehensive and customized health and performance programs in the world, using AI technology and expert coaches. Clayton is a problem solver - whether that be for coaching athletes in aerial straps, or using data science to develop comprehensive AI systems, he’s always looking for ways to improve the thing which he is working on. There is a distinctly human element to coaching of any kind that cannot be totally replaced by a machine. However, what if we could use AI to replace a lot of the “busy work” a coach has to do, so that they can free up time to use their uniquely human skills to help more people? This is what Clayton is building with Fount. We discussed the ins and outs of how this is possible, and how it all blends together. Fount has also recently released a product called FlyKitt. FlyKitt is another unique AI/human blend approach to eliminating jet lag. Turns out, jet lag isn’t necessary. And given the correct information, tools, and guidance, it can be eliminated almost entirely. Clayton and I spoke about how this system would work, as well as some simple rules-of-thumb anyone can follow. Be sure to follow Fount on Twitter, and visit their website for more information. Share this episode with a friend who would enjoy or benefit from it! #92: Dr. Jack Jeng on Improving Men’s Health Through Hormone Optimization with Hone Health

Dr. Jack Jeng (@JackJeng) is the Chief Medical Officer of Hone Health, a modern men's health platform that offers personalized care with data driven insights, licensed physician consultations, and medications, all from home. There is a crisis of low testosterone levels across the population that is not spoken about nearly enough. Current testosterone levels are significantly lower than generations past, and this is affecting ALL aspects of health. You may have heard of “TRT” as something guys use to get bigger in the gym - this is the least exciting and impactful effect of hormone therapy. In this conversation Jack explains all the ways in which low testosterone is negatively affecting our collective health. He expands upon some of the reasons why, which are a mixed bag of behavioural, environmental, and genetic causes. Most importantly, he offers some possible solutions. From optimizing your lifestyle all the way up to utilizing modern science via HRT (hormone replacement therapy), there are ways we can curb this crisis. This could potentially have massive positive downstream effects on the health care system at large, which we also discussed. Hone Health is a service that makes these therapies available, totally remotely. From testing, consultation, and ongoing support - you can do it all from your home for better, and more affordable service. #91: Fitness and Fantasy Football

If you play fantasy football, you will enjoy this episode. If you don't know what fantasy football is, you probably won't get most of the connections but if you can get past that, then continue listening. I just had a few extra minutes with all my equipment set up so decided to record this episode as it was the first and simplest thing that came to mind with no prep time. Also, it seemed like fun, and fantasy football has just been on my brain constantly. From the outset this podcast has been about drawing parallels between life and fitness. How the lessons learned in the gym translate over to improve our lives overall. Well, I found a way to connect fantasy football and fitness. Surprisingly, there is a lot more in common than meets the eye, and plenty of lessons to learn to help you in the gym.Give this episode a listen, and share it with your league mates! Let's work together to improve your fitness (can't help you with your fantasy team, sorry). Apply for coaching here.  Share this episode with a friend who would enjoy or benefit from it! #90: David London on Mobility Training, Othership, and Best Exercises for Deskbound Lifters

David London (@deskboundtherapy) is a movement, flexibility and posture specialist who founded Deskbound Therapy to help others improve their flexibility, posture and overall reduce their pain. David and I met at Othership in Toronto where David is continually becoming more involved in that community. Our conversation starts there and we discuss - yet again - the power of the heat, cold, and community that comes with it. We also draw some connections to mobility training and the overall physical health benefits that Othership provides. Both David and I are big proponents of mobility training. That is, not just randomly stretching passively, but actually training mobility. This is easy, and actually is far more difficult and specific than you might think. David gave some great advice as we both shared personal stories of ourselves and clients on the why’s and how’s to train your mobility. A deskbound lifter is someone who’s job requires them to sit at a desk, yet they love to lift and get after it. Naturally, sitting at a desk all day has it’s physical consequences. There are ways to offset this, and you might even say it’s necessary. In addition to the discussion in this episode, you can download David’s free Desk Mobility Routine to help you improve mobility right at your desk. Be sure to follow David on IG and Youtube to keep up with everything he has coming up, including the resurgence of the Deskbound Therapy Podcast. If you're ready to put in the work and become the strongest version of yourself, apply for coaching here.  Share this episode with a friend who would enjoy or benefit from it! #89: Kyle Koch on Reconnecting to Nature, Remembering How to Play and Maximizing Your Environment

Kyle Koch (@trottingsparrow) joins the podcast as he wraps up a summer of glamping, and creating community in nature. In an effort to reconnect with nature and share it with others, Kyle has created a glamping community which he built himself. To invite people to let go of the city, and introduce nature, play, movement, and stillness back into their lives. This was a fun conversation about our current built environment. It seems that we have to spend A LOT of time, energy, and money to undo the things that we've built. Kyle also feels this, and the simple answer is to get out of the environment and back into nature as often as possible. There are tons of health benefits which we referenced in this episode: cold water immersion, sunlight, grounding and living in coherence with the circadian rhythm. The most impactful however might be re-learning how to play. We discover so much about ourselves, each other, and the world around us through playing as children. And then, we stop playing. Why? Can we keep playing? How do we do it? The answer: go outside! To keep up with Kyle and everything he's got coming up for next summer, follow his social media @trottingsparrow and check out www.evolvemoveplay.com. #88: Dr. Allan Bacon Delivers a Masterclass on Habit Change for a Healthy Lifestyle

Dr. Allan Bacon (@drallanbacon) is a former dental surgeon turned fitness professional. He co-founded Maui Athletics along with his wife, Beth. Through their experience in bodybuilding, Crossfit, powerlifting, olympic weightlifting, and overall health + wellness for both the weekend warrior and professional athlete, they offer personalized online fitness and nutrition coaching for physique and performance. This episode was all about habit change. You probably already know the things you need to do on a basic level: exercise more, choose healthier food options, walk more during the day etc. But how to go about making these changes - and making them stick - is the hard part. We focused on this very topic for the entirety of the episode. Changing habits is not easy, but it is possible. And like anything, you should approach it with a plan. Dr. Bacon broke down habit change and formation in one of the most brilliant yet easy to understand and implement ways I’ve ever heard. This is certainly an episode you’ll want to listen to twice, take notes, and share with your friends! Be sure to visit mauiathletics.com to connect with Dr. Allan Bacon and everything going on with Maui Athletics.I’d love to work with you and be your coach to help you achieve whatever fitness goals you have set for yourself. #87: A Lesson on Training Intensity

What you THINK you're doing, and what you're ACTUALLY doing are not always the same thing. You know those people who say they workout super hard yet never change or improve? Yeah, they're not actually training that hard.Although their perception of hard training is valid, because well, that's their perception. Still doesn't make it true.Intensity is one of the most important variables in all of training. In fact, it pains me to admit this, but high training intensity can make up for a lot of programming and methodology shortcomings. In this episode I spoke about how to evaluate training intensity, why it matters, what the lower and upper limits are, and how you can apply these thoughts to your own training to start getting better results.Apply for coaching here if you're ready to pack on muscle, get stronger than ever, and build your dream body. Share this episode with a friend who would enjoy or benefit from it! #86: Tools To Make Fitness - and Your Life - a Little Easier

Typically I feel like I come off as the "anti-stuff" kinda guy: no supplements, no gadgets, no tips and tricks. I don't mean for it to happen that way. My intention is for you not to ignore the basics in light of these things that promise to solve all your problems. The reality is that they will not ever replace doing the fundamentals well. However, when you've got that down, there are many things that can either help push you to the next level, or make your life easier in general. In this episode, I spoke about several of those things, including a few you may not have expected. Two VERY important things to note: 1) Do not immediately go out and buy all this stuff just because it might help, if you're not doing the simple things right. More "stuff" doesn't solve your problems. These are recommendations for you to think about, not things I'm saying that you must have. 2) Please consult a qualified professional before using any prescription or non-prescription substances mentioned in this episode. I'm not telling you to use them, or break the law. Simply, something to think deeply about and explore further as to whether it may/may not be an option for you. There are many tools that can help you. But they don't work if you don't use your brain. I’d love to work with you as your coach to help you achieve whatever fitness goals you have set for yourself. #85: 28 Fitness Lessons for My 28th Birthday

The day this episode goes live will be my 28th birthday! So I took a moment to think about 28 fitness lessons I've learned up to this point. By no means am I the "most" experience person in fitness, being only 28 years old, but I've put in a lot of hours and been through many ups and downs, and learned a few things along the way. This is obviously not everything I've learned, but just 28 things that came to mind that seem relevant at the current time. Some are serious, some are less so, but all of them matter in taking a complete approach to your fitness. I also decided at the end of the episode I'd run a birthday sale for online coaching. Up until Sept 18th at midnight, send me a message saying "PODCAST BIRTHDAY" for 28% off coaching. Message me on IG or through my website.
