Take program design, for instance…

Yet the longer I do this, the more I realize that it’s not just about learning or consuming – but how learning combined with our own experiences allows us to refine our thought process.

Some of them may be more relevant than others to you, but I hope the thought processes involved will help YOU become a better program designer or coach!

6 Investments That Created Massive ROI in 2022

Tamás Kelemen on Training the Elite Athletes of Cirque du Soleil
Tamás Kelemen is the head strength and conditioning coach for the Cirque du Soleil show “O.” Cirque is the largest contemporary circus producer in the world, with 17 active shows, 6 of which reside in Las Vegas.
Tamas started off as an athlete, where he was an elite-level gymnast and diver. At the end of his career, he became an artist and diver in “O” for 6 years.
When it was time to hang it up as an athlete, he became the strength coach for “O,” and the rest, as they say, is history.
In this episode, we talk about all the unique challenges that Tamás has a strength coach for a circus.
For starters, what is it like to program and coach for 150 athletes, from 20 different sporting disciplines, and hail from over 30 different countries?
Or how do you build trust and rapport with elite level athletes who have NEVER had a strength coach before?

20 Tips for Young Coaches
Bringing back a little old-school flavor this week my friend…
You see, a few years back, someone asked me this very simple question:

Adam Petway on the Mechanisms Behind ACL and Achilles Tears
It’s estimated that somewhere between 100,000 and 200,000 people tear their ACL every year.
And while Achilles tears aren’t anywhere near that level, it’s obvious that the numbers for this injury are on the rise as well.
In a best case scenario, with an ACL or Achilles tear you’re looking at a grueling 9, 12 or even as long as 18 month rehab process.
And in a worst case scenario?
It could be career ending.
That’s why I wanted Adam Petway to come on the podcast. Adam has spent hundreds of hours watching game film and diving deep into the mechanisms behind both ACL and Achilles tears, and what he’s found is pretty darn cool.
For instance, did you know there’s one specific pattern you see in basically every Achilles tear?
And while not quite as predictable, he’s figured out the 3 primary scenarios when athletes tear their ACL’s as well.
So in this podcast, we talk about HOW these injuries occur, as well as strategies to prevent them.
Older athletes are more at risk than younger athletes (for an Achilles tear). The average age of an NBA athlete is 24 years old, but the average age of an NBA athlete that ruptures their Achilles tendon is 29.3 – so we found older athletes are more predisposed. – Adam Petway

Drake Berberet: The Beginners Guide to Assessing and Training with Force Plates
Whether you like it or not, I can say with a lot of confidence that technology in sport is here to stay.
