Self-taught marketer to global disruptor: Bhanuka Harischandra of Surge Global
🎙️ Welcome to "Chew the Fat," where real business insights meet real-world success stories.
From startups to fortune 500 giants, Surge crafts bold strategies, cutting-edge tech, and growth marketing tools that put user experience at the forefront.
Bhanuka Harischandra didn’t just build a business, he built a movement that’s rewriting the rules of digital media and marketing. As the founder of Surge Global, Bhaunka is empowering brands to smash boundaries, conquer new markets, and lead with strategies that don’t just follow trends, they set them.
But Bhanuka’s story? That’s where it gets really interesting. As a self-taught marketer, at just 19, he launched TheGamersCottage, a YouTube network that helped over 600 creators cash in on half a billion video views. Then, boom, YouTube’s policy changes & wiped the business out overnight. Most people would’ve thrown in the towel... Not Bhanuka. He pivoted, founding Surge in 2015. Three years later, his hustle paid off with $500,000 in funding from Tavistock Group (that multibillion-dollar investment group). He calls it the Crown Jewel.
Surge has skyrocketed from a team of 3 to 400, achieving 100% yoy growth and becoming an 8-figure powerhouse. Beyond Surge, Bhanuka owns multiple businesses, cementing his reputation as a serial success story.
After the 2019 Sri Lanka attacks, Bhanuka co-founded Watchdog, a fact-checking platform fighting fake news. Add to that his TEDx talks, a Forbes 30 under 30 Asia accolade, and a reputation for outworking the competition. Today, Surge isn’t just surviving, it’s thriving. Tune in now.
