#30- What 'Passion' Means to Me
In this week's solo episode, I tell the story of why I have the word, 'Passion' tattooed on my left wrist. After struggling with depression and self-harm, I found it very challenging to feel any sense of purpose in my life, until I learned what I was truly passionate about. At the time, soccer was my sweet escape. It was the only place I could go to where I could feel like myself and get away from all the negative thoughts and feelings that I was battling constantly. 'Passion' became a word, a coping strategy, and a lifestyle that truly allowed me to find what set my soul on fire, and learn how to love my life again. I also give some personal updates in this episode related to my school and the inspiration behind the podcast. Trigger warning: self-harm is talked about in this episode. Today, we are joined by guest, Diana Del Rosario who shares her struggles with depression coming from a Filipino background. In many Asian cultures, emotional control is desired and any sign of distress is typically seen as a weakness. She explains how damaging this mentality can be and how difficult it was for her to even acknowledge what she was going through herself. Diana provides insight and advice for those who also may be struggling to navigate their family systems and accept their mental health issues. This episode is informative, eye-opening, and relatable!
