S4 Ep. 32: Hormone Therapy from Perimenopause to Menopause

Do you feel like you are in the dark when it comes to understanding perimenopause to menopause? Like many areas of the woman's body and her health, there has been a lack of education and support to women. This is true of women going through the transition to stopping their menstrual cycles for good. The good news is more noise is being made about this topic, and we want to join the conversion on The Hormone Genius podcast today and dive into the questions you have about perimenopause and menopause. Jamie and Teresa will discuss this particular transition towards ovarian quiescence; including the common symptoms of perimenopause to menopause, and the options for treatment. Jamie & Teresa will review some of the questions you sent in for us to answer on this particular episode, including themes around weight gain and menopause mood symptoms, hormone therapy, and so much more! One of the most common concerns is whether women should take hormone replacement therapy. This has been a controversial issue for sure, but we will give you a renewed sense of hope in this area of women's health. The great news is that hormones can continue to help womens bodies through menopause and beyond. Hormones have benefits to our quality of life as women, but they also have health and longevity benefits as well. We will take a look at all of these options and also help you focus on becoming the best version of yourself at 45, at 55, 65 and beyond, because that is what we all want is to be healthy and vital for as long as we can on this great earth. We will look also at the Women's Health Initiative and the unfortunate reality that this large study was misintepreted, and therefore has not given women appropriate informed consent around the decision of using hormone replacement therapy. Hopefully, we will give you a new look at this issue giving you more information, so you feel more confident in talking to your doctor/healthcare professional. S4 Ep. 31: Getting Pregnant after Miscarriage with Bekah Yawn

Bekah Yawn is no stranger to being on the Hormone Genius Podcast, and today, as a certified Fiat hormone coach she is going to help us understand a path forward for healing & answers after miscarriage. Many women will go through the difficult loss of a child; in fact rates for miscarriage are between 20 to 30% for women in the U.S. which is a sad statistic. One of the most difficult things about miscarriage, besides the incredible loss of human life, is that many women will never know the 'why' behind the loss. Most miscarriages are chalked up to either a genetic issue or a fluke of nature, which is not always a satisfying answer. It is true also, that no woman wants to go through a miscarriage again, so they want to know how they can prevent a miscarriage in their future. This is why we are doing this podcast today. We want to give a path forward, a proactive and positive approach for what to do after the loss of a baby. We will give practical and proactive steps to take for cycle tracking, and other areas to look into with your hormonal health, to optimize your body and fertility for a future pregnancy. S4 Ep. 26: Mineral Toxicity & Depression During Pregnancy; A Story of Healing

Today we will hear a story of perinatal depression from our guest Amanda Dailey. This story is difficult to hear and may be triggering for some who have had depression during pregnancy and also post partum. Amanda is sharing her story to "shine a light in the darkness." The good news is that is is full of hope and healing as well! So be ready to go on a journey with Amanda as she shares her difficult experiences related to her last pregnancy and severe mental health issues. Did you know that about 11% of women will have perinatal depression (depression or other mental health issues during pregnancy). This is important to know and for women to understand that they are not alone when suffering with depression during pregnancy. Risk factors for depression or other mental health issues in pregnancy include: A history of depressive, bipolar, or anxiety disorders A family history of depressive disorders or perinatal disorders An unplanned or teenage pregnancy A multiple birth A difficult or traumatic pregnancy or birth An ongoing health problem with the baby A lack of social support with low socioeconomic status and financial difficulties (https://www.ccjm.org/content/87/5/273) Untreated depression during the postpartum period also has repercussions for both the mother and her baby. For the mother, it can lead to intense sadness, marked anxiety, and a lack of interest in life and the child, often resulting in poor or absent maternal bonding with the infant. It is also associated with failure to initiate breastfeeding or a shortened duration of breastfeeding. Amanda will also give us beautiful information about a new project and organization that her family is starting The Philomena Project to give help to other mothers in this situation. In her own words" through my faith, support of family & friends, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, and therapy have helped me to heal. It is not a quick fix. A Christian artist Tasha Layton once shared what someone told her: “Depression is just the body's way of saying something needs to change.” Depression was just one of the symptoms to my underlying nutrient deficiencies in my body. It took over a year and half to discover this, but listening to my gut - the answers are in my body - proved to save my life and lead me to a truth path of healing." Here are some helpful resources that Amanda has put together for mom's who may be interested in this topic and getting more help: - Netflix documentary called Untold: Breaking Point, detailing tennis player Marty Fish's battle with mental health, https://www.netflix.com/title/81026434 - Artist NF (Nathan Feuerstein), has some great songs specifically about OCD - A playlist on Spotify I have created over my 2+ year healing journey: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2EZjNM6EBMMPyOOLcTAInI?si=e5ca97f2dc134ae9 - Dr. Walsh's book, Nutrient Power - Mensah Medical, https://www.mensahmedical.com - Walsh Research Institute, https://www.walshinstitute.org - Podcast, Eat for Life, https://eatfor.life" We thank our sponsor for today Dr. Monica Minjuer of Radiant Health!
