S5 Ep. 5: Three Supplements That May Benefit Your Health: N-AC, DIM & Myo-Inositol

Today on The Hormone Genius Podcast we are talking about 3 popular supplements. N-Acetyl-Cysteine, DIM, and Myo-Inositol. We are diving into what Jamie & Teresa know and recommend in regards to what health benefits could be possible from considering one or more of these 3 supplements. Now it first is important to remember to talk to your trusted health care professional in regards to whether you personally should, or should not take these or any supplement. It is also important to remember that it is good to do your own research. For example, you can look into the database sponsored by the National Institutes of Health called Pubmed https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ and look at all the research articles that exist in regards to these supplements. If you want to have a better idea of how to choose a quality supplement consider this article by FullScript which gives some basic but good information about knowing which supplement companies make quality and responsible products, https://fullscript.com/blog/third-party-certifications. Okay, here is a simple 101 on each supplement we are discussing, but it is just the tip of the iceberg. (NAC) N-acetyl-cysteine is an essential amino acid, a precursor to glutathione, our master antioxidant, and has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory rich properties. It is used as a detoxification of the liver, especially beneficial for overdoses of acetaminophen. It has been used to treat and support different lung diseases, as it is anti-inflammatory and reduces oxidative stress. It has been used to treat many other diseases, including OCD & trichotillomania, viruses, PCOS, endometriosis, and lastly because of its mucolytic properties has been used to improve quality cervical mucus in patients trying to conceive. (DIM) Diindolylmethane, a compound that comes from cruciferous vegetables, has been found potentially to benefit the modulation and support of estrogen metabolism. The evidence is growing and its use in the supplement world has been growing as well to benefit estrogen dominance, and promote better detoxification of hormones. DIM has done most of its research on stopping the growth of cancer cells, and some research is promising, but more is needed to know if DIM could be used effectively for cancer. Myo-Inositol is a natural isomer of glucose that has some powerful effects in the body. It has been studied well, and found to improve ovulation & menstrual cycles, body mass index, insulin level and cholesterol. It has been studied to prevent gestational diabetes, and also has been used to treat OCD, and other mental health disorders. But, it is most well known for its use in PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) for restoring ovulation, helping with high androgen levels, improving insulin sensitivity, and pregnancy rates. We hope you find this information empowering, and invite you to do your own thorough research and talk to your personal healthcare professional about what supplements are right for you. Also, if you have had a positive experience with one of these three nutrients, please share your story at thehormonegenius@gmail.com!
