Being sedentary can be detrimental to both physical and mental health. Our ancestors naturally moved much more, averaging 15 miles a day. Today’s lifestyle, full of cars and desks, promotes inactivity, which negatively affects personality traits and increases the risk of depression. Regular low-grade exercises, like walking, can combat anxiety and inflammation, making movement essential throughout the day. Interestingly, hitting the gym for an hour may not suffice and could even be counterproductive.
