Fave Hits: 6 Quick Questions with Becca Millstein, Founder of Fishwife (Part 2)
Today’s episode is brought to you by Klaviyo and I’m chatting with Becca Millstein, the Founder of Fishwife. Fishwife is a new female-founded and led food company aiming to make ethically-sourced, premium, and delicious tinned seafood a staple in every cupboard. They work with small boat fisherfolks, sustainable aquaculture farms, and microcanneries to bring the vibrance of European conservas culture to the North American table.I started following Becca’s journey with Fishwife when it first launched last year and have been drooling over it ever since as a big tinned fish eater myself - so I’m really excited to share this episode with you. We’re chatting about creating a distinguishable brand, what it costs and how to find the right folks, what it actually means to create a sustainable tinned fish company, how to start small and build within your means and building a brand that’s truly authentic and unique. The best piece of advice that the founders were given, that led them to move so quickly, is that there is an ethos of the move fast and break things advice. Asking consumers, asking customers what they think about your products at every turn. Thats the piece of advice, 100 percent always do that. If youre not talking to your consumers, why? This is the most useful resources that you have available. Get customer feedback as soon as you can, by launching the brand. You’ve got to think of those hacks to get your brand and product in front of people to see if they would want to buy you. You just have to talk to so many people to do this. And you should. Because it will lead you in incredible directions and that will really build your business. Now, let’s get straight into it!LINKS WE MENTION:Fishwife's InstagramBecca's InstagramVisit Upscribe.io/femalestartupclub to learn more and receive your first month FREETry LinkedIn Jobs for free today by going to LinkedIn.com/FSCSIGN UP FOR 1800-HYPEGIRL HOTLINE HERE: femalestartupclub.norby.liveFemale Startup Club's Instagram Doone's Instagram Doone's TikTok To redeem 1 month free of Norby's Basic Plan use code "FSC" here: https://join.nor.by/ In partnership with Klaviyo, the best email marketing tool for eCommerce businesses Female Startup Club's YouTubeFemale Startup Club’s Private Facebook Group Say hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.com Hosted on Acast. Fave Hits: 6 Quick Questions with Cyndi Ramirez-Fulton Founder of Chillhouse (Part 2)
Joining me on today’s episode is Cyndi Ramirez-Fulton, Founder of Chillhouse. Chillhouse is an experiential flagship in Soho which offers a suite of spa services and in addition to their physical space, they have a line of products ranging from press-on chill tips to candles and Chill Wear. The Chill Times is the media arm of Chillhouse that covers beauty, health, fitness, and wellness topics.Born and raised in New York City, Cyndi has been dubbed “The Queen of Chill” through her creation of Chillhouse. The idea was sparked when she and her husband realised the city didn’t offer something that was aspirational and affordable, and their desire to create a place with something for everyone led to the creation of Chillhouse -- which is now the authority of modern self-care. In this episode we’re talking through bringing this vision into reality, how a cult product can be used as a major discovery tool and how the ultimate Girlboss of entrepreneurs got involved with Chillhouse in the beginning, getting Cyndi to think and dream bigger. This is a great one to listen to if you know if you need to stop second guessing yourself. Biggest differentiator between men and women? Men just do and women talk a lot, try to get feedback and get advice. Men don’t ask questions, they just go for it. We want to see more women just having this innate reaction. Personally here at FSC, we got some serious kick-up-the-**** vibes from this chat. The ultimate take-away is that if an idea feels brilliant to you, it could be brilliant to everybody. Stop mulling over the why not, get yourself in gear. Test whatever you think is going to work, and if it doesn’t land… Then now you know! Let’s get straight into it.LINKS WE MENTION:Chillhouse Website Chillhouse InstagramCyndi’s InstagramWebsite: Sophia AmorusoCommunity: Girlboss Podcast: NPR’s How I Built This by Guy Raz Podcast: Second Life by Hillary KerrPodcast: Female Start Up Club by Doone Roisin App: ClubhouseVisit Upscribe.io/femalestartupclub to learn more and receive your first month FREETry LinkedIn Jobs for free today by going to LinkedIn.com/FSCSIGN UP FOR 1800-HYPEGIRL HOTLINE HERE: femalestartupclub.norby.liveFemale Startup Club's Instagram Doone's Instagram Doone's TikTok To redeem 1 month free of Norby's Basic Plan use code "FSC" here: https://join.nor.by/ In partnership with Klaviyo, the best email marketing tool for eCommerce businesses Female Startup Club's YouTubeFemale Startup Club’s Private Facebook Group Say hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.com Hosted on Acast. Fave Hits: 6 Quick Questions with Amy Liu, Founder of Tower 28 (Part 2)
Today we’re learning from Amy Liu of Tower 28. We’re covering how to make your pitch count when it comes to getting stocked into retailers like Sephora + how to be a best seller at Sephora, and how she stands out in a saturated market. Tower 28 is an Insta-favorite clean beauty brand designed for sensitive skin and made for all. Created with a hint of nostalgia (hello Juicy Tubes!), Tower 28’s products are bold, playful, and accessible (with all price points under $28!). With the message that #ItsOkayToBeSensitive, Tower 28 is the first and only beauty brand to follow the National Eczema Association’s Ingredient Guidelines. That means 0% irritating ingredients and 100% safe for sensitive skin. It's also clean, vegan, rigorously dermatologist-tested, and made in the USA.We can all learn a lot from Amy’s out-the-box approach to pitching. Without giving too much away, she dives into why you need to make buyers feel the brand. Really animate it. Really stand out in a way. It’s like any relationship, the first thing you want is for them to say yes. But you don’t just want them to say yes. You want them to be SO excited to be doing this. The whole thing is: you want them to be your advocate internally, so that when it does come to launching they’re your cheerleader. And all the details on just how to do that are packed inside the episode. So, let’s get straight into it!LINKS WE MENTION:Amy's InstagramTower 28's InstagramVisit Upscribe.io/femalestartupclub to learn more and receive your first month FREETry LinkedIn Jobs for free today by going to LinkedIn.com/FSCSIGN UP FOR 1800-HYPEGIRL HOTLINE HERE: femalestartupclub.norby.liveFemale Startup Club's Instagram Doone's Instagram Doone's TikTok To redeem 1 month free of Norby's Basic Plan use code "FSC" here: https://join.nor.by/ In partnership with Klaviyo, the best email marketing tool for eCommerce businesses Female Startup Club's YouTubeFemale Startup Club’s Private Facebook Group Say hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.com Hosted on Acast. Fave Hits: 6 Quick Questions with Liv Koennecke, Founder of Maison Essentiele (Part 2)
Today on the show we are learning from Olivia (or Liv as I know her!) Koennecke, Founder of luxury pyjamas brand Maison Essentiele. Maison Essentiele creates luxurious home essentials defined by soft, fluid silhouettes and tailoring. Every piece in the collection is responsibly crafted using high-quality natural fabrics like A-grade silk, European linen and organic cotton, allowing you to elevate your morning and evening routine with their chic pajama sets and silky nightdresses. If you’re in the fashion industry this is such an amazing deep dive on things you should be considering when it comes to capital, how to go about getting a retailer like Net-A-Porter and Bloomingdales, and her thoughts behind gifting high-priced products to influencers.I especially loved getting into the nitty gritty of the financials behind building a luxury brand. You wouldn’t be alone in thinking that starting a luxury fashion brand would require a hefty bit of capital to get you off the ground. I sure thought so, but Liv really turned this on its head for me. “Because I had no capital to work with, it has always made me have a really lean way of operating. I’ve always had to be really savvy with my money, and be really creative to have done what I’ve done. This is the biggest lesson that I want to pass on to other business owners. You actually, to begin with, don’t need a huge amount of money.” I just had to know the secret. When it comes to a logo, website, designing some packaging… There are so many great tools that you can use right now that are so much lower cost. Those are a lot more cost-efficient than agency packages. Outsourcing websites such as: Fiverr, Upwork, 99Designs, Writer Access, Total…In this way, you can pay by the hour or by the project, and save those pretty pennies for other areas of the biz. So smart.Let’s get straight into it!LINKS WE MENTION: Maison Essentiele's InstagramOlivia's InstagramVisit Upscribe.io/femalestartupclub to learn more and receive your first month FREETry LinkedIn Jobs for free today by going to LinkedIn.com/FSCSIGN UP FOR 1800-HYPEGIRL HOTLINE HERE: femalestartupclub.norby.liveFemale Startup Club's Instagram Doone's Instagram Doone's TikTok To redeem 1 month free of Norby's Basic Plan use code "FSC" here: https://join.nor.by/ In partnership with Klaviyo, the best email marketing tool for eCommerce businesses Female Startup Club's YouTubeFemale Startup Club’s Private Facebook Group Say hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.com Female Startup Club + Clearco: Clear.co/partner/female-star Hosted on Acast. Fave Hits: 6 Quick Questions with Cherie Hoeger, Founder of Saalt (Part 2)
Joining me on today’s episode is Cherie Hoeger, Founder of Saalt.Saalt is a company aiming to modernize reusable period care. In 2018, Saalt launched its flagship product—the Saalt period cup—with the vision of making cleaner, more sustainable period care accessible to everyone. Leading Saalt's social impact efforts, Cherie began networking with impact partners to provide their period cups to underprivileged girls and women so they could confidently manage their periods, stay in school, and lift themselves out of poverty. The lightbulb moment came to Cherie after a phone call with her aunt in Venezuela, who had not been able to purchase pads or tampons for a year as a result of the local political situation. This circumstance, being a woman herself, and having five daughters, got Cherie thinking about what reusable options are actually available to us women out there. Now in their third year in business, Saalt has donated over 12,000 cups in over twenty-two countries to create a wave of informed cup users who then act as mentors for other donation recipients. In this episode you’ll hear how Cherie and her husband got started, how they got their impactful start by launching the brand to their focus group of 1000 people, the way they’re driving growth through impact and education, and why Cherie urges everyone to consider becoming a B Corp business. Our fave take-aways from this inspiring chat with Cherie? As entrepreneurs it’s really a rollercoaster. It’s often said you only have two emotions as an entrepreneur: euphoria and terror. And the lack of sleep emphasises them both. This is amazing, and I truly can’t get enough of this quote. Secondly, fail forward: you’re either winning or you’re learning. There is no in between. Number three, entrepreneurship is being committing to your vision. Be the one that sticks around and stays consistent with their vision. Have true confidence in your business and in your product.
