How One TikTok Video Propelled A Startup To Massive Success

It all happened with one video. A simple video, shot in 15 minutes, quickly went viral and put the startup, Popl, on the map.    Jason Alvarez-Cohen started Popl as a way to share social media information, via an app where you just tap each other's phones.   Aimed at Gen Z, it made sense.  But he soon learned that professionals were using it to exchange contact information, like email addresses or LinkedIn profiles.  He pivoted and, with an improved product and targeted marketing strategy, the new improved Popl blew up.   He was recently made the Forbes 30 Under 30 List and Popl is exploding.   He drops some great business advice in this one and I think you'll like it.   Make sure you subscribe and turn on notifications so you don't miss an episode every Tuesday at 10AM.   And check out my blog, and newsletter, where I post two articles a week with business lessons that I've learned from over 200 interviews with the biggest entrepreneurs in the world.   Subscribe here

Michael Cherman Started Out Making Socks, Now He Has A Multi-Million Dollar Streetwear Brand

Michael Cherman got hit by a car in NYC and that tragic event sparked an idea: Making reflective socks as a way for pedestrians to be easily spotted by cars, so they could avoid getting hit. He went to a market, set up a stand and quickly sold out of the 40 pairs of socks that he brought. That led to the formation of his first brand, ICNY. It was a success but after taking on an investor, he was fired from his own company. Not one to be defeated, Cherman decided that he could do it again. He experimented with several designs before he hit it big. The one that set it all off was a Nike shirt with a picture of Frank Ocean on it. He brought it to Complex Con, sold out of it, and made tens of thousands of dollars. He was back! Fueled by the success of that shirt, he kept producing high quality streetwear and built a community of devoted fans. He continues to innovate and frequently does major collabs with bands/brands, like: The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, My Chemical Romance and more. He also is a big believer in giving back and frequently helps younger designers by sharing what he’s learned along the way. In this episode he shares business and life advice that can apply to anyone, regardless of their profession. I really enjoyed this conversation and I hope you do too. And make sure you subscribe to the channel, and turn on notifications, for new interviews every Tuesday at 10AM. Behind the Success of Kristin Cavallari's Jewelry Brand

Kristin Cavallari rose to fame from her role in the MTV reality show Laguna Beach, while still in high school. She appeared on several TV shows after Laguna Beach, but after she married NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, she left Hollywood and moved to Chicago to raise her family.  Always a hustler, Cavallari wanted her own business, so she founded the jewelry brand, Uncommon James, in 2017. She worked her ass off! She literally did every job in the company: From answering angry customers’ emails to actually designing the jewelry. It was that drive to succeed and her vision that made the company succeed. Now, it’s a wildly successful brand, that has expanded beyond jewelry and even has its own retail stores. It was a pleasure talking with such a successful entrepreneur! We talked about starting a business, the early mistakes that she made, the pros and cons of raising capital, advice for young entrepreneurs and more.  I hope you like this one as much as I did. And if you like the show, if you could take a couple of minutes to fill out this anonymous survey, it would really help me to deliver the content that you want to see. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/J79V957 Thanks for all of your support!  Tom
