Ep. 102: Anger Management In Sobriety

Anger (and the suppression of anger) can be a big trigger for women to drink in sobriety. There’s a reason that people tell you to remember “HALT” when you’re removing alcohol from your life. HALT is an acronym for Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired, which are four of the most common stressors in recovery. One of the most helpful skills you can learn when you’re quitting drinking is how to manage anger in a healthy way. Both navigating the intensity and effect anger has upon you, as well as how to understand and express your anger without stuffing it down. Michelle Farris, a licensed Psychotherapist and Anger Management Specialist will help you develop tools and coping skills to understand and manage anger in sobriety. Michelle helps codependent people create healthy relationships without sacrificing their big hearts. For full shownotes and to access resources mentioned in the episode, head over to www.hellosomedaycoaching.com/102 Ready to drink less + live more?Take my FREE MASTERCLASS on Five Secrets To Taking a Break From DrinkingSign up here to save your seat: https://hellosomedaycoaching.com/class  If you’re ready to change your relationship with alcohol join The Sobriety Starter Kit. It's my signature sober coaching course for busy women to help you drink less + live more. To enroll go to www.sobrietystarterkit.com. Or grab the  Free 30-Day Guide To Quitting Drinking, 30 Tips For Your First Month Alcohol-Free Connect with Casey McGuire DavidsonFind out more about Casey and her coaching programs, head over to her website, www.hellosomedaycoaching.com

Ep. 101: ADHD, Women & Alcohol

Women with ADHD are creative, spontaneous, problem solvers, energetic and have the ability to focus intensely on a project or task. They are also more likely to drink heavily, become reliant on alcohol and are more sensitive to the effects of alcohol on their brains and bodies. In fact, 25% of adults being treated for alcohol and substance use disorders are diagnosed with ADHD and alcohol abuse among people with ADHD is 5 to 10 times more common than it is in people without the condition. As a woman with ADHD you may struggle to focus, be easily distracted, act impulsively, feel restless and have trouble relaxing and unwinding, and because of that the immediate effect of alcohol, you may feel the pull to drink heavily and have a more difficult time moderating alcohol.Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a Neurodevelopmental disorder that impacts the brain which controls emotions, learning, self-control and memory. Because of the link between women, ADHD and alcohol abuse I invited Hanna Forrest, an ADHD Specialist who works with neurodiverse adults and children, on the podcast to talk about why women with ADHD often struggle with alcohol and practical tools to manage ADHD while quitting drinking. For full show notes and to access links and resources mentioned in the episode, head over to www.hellosomedaycoaching.com/101 Ready to drink less + live more? Take my FREE MASTERCLASS on Five Secrets To Taking a Break From DrinkingSign up here to save your seat: https://hellosomedaycoaching.com/class  If you’re ready to change your relationship with alcohol join The Sobriety Starter Kit. It's my signature sober coaching course for busy women to help you drink less + live more. To enroll go to www.sobrietystarterkit.com. Grab the Free 30-Day Guide To Quitting Drinking, 30 Tips For Your First Month Alcohol-Free Connect with Casey McGuire DavidsonFind out more about Casey and her coaching programs, head over to her website, www.hellosomedaycoaching.com

Ep. 99: Sober Celebrities

Wondering which celebrities are sober and whether any of your favorite actors, musicians and models live alcohol-free? You might be surprised by how many famous people have decided to quit drinking.Personally, I love it when a celebrity comes out to say they've stopped drinking or are questioning the role that alcohol is playing in their lives because it normalizes living alcohol-free and disrupts the narrative that you have to drink to live an exciting, fun and glamorous life. Sober celebrities who talk about their decision to stop drinking can start a larger conversation about alcohol and its role in our lives. When you stop drinking it can feel lonely at times, especially in the early days when you might not know a lot of sober people, so knowing that cool, glamorous, famous people have also decided to ditch the booze can help you feel less alone. To access resources and links mentioned in this episode, head to www.hellosomedaycoaching.com/99 Ready to drink less + live more?If you’re ready to change your relationship with alcohol it doesn’t have to be this hard. You just need a plan and a framework to follow. To enroll in the program go to www.sobrietystarterkit.com. Join The Grab the  Free 30-Day Guide To Quitting Drinking, 30 Tips For Your First Month Alcohol-Free Connect with Casey McGuire DavidsonFind out more about Casey and her coaching programs, head over to her website, www.hellosomedaycoaching.com

Ep. 98: Parenting Teens and Tweens Without The Drama

Parenting teens and tweens can be a messy time that can bring joy, satisfaction, frustration, worry and a desire to drink to tune it all out. It’s a time when kids are moving out of childhood and into adulthood, but they’re not there yet. Kids in adolescence experience intense emotions, are wired for novelty seeking and start to prioritize peer relationships over parental ones. Because of all of this parenting teenagers can be a personal growth and development workshop for the adults in their lives. The behavior of teenagers can trigger strong emotional reactions in adults, often related more to something unhealed or not processed inside of us. We are triggered by the meaning we are assigning to the behavior, rather than the behavior itself. My guest today, Casey O’Roarty, is here to give you the tools you need to navigate the rollercoaster of parenting your teen or tween without the drama. Casey is a personal growth and development junkie, parent coach, and a positive discipline trainer specialized in working with adolescents. To access resources and links mentioned in this episode, head over to www.hellosomedaycoaching.com/98 Ready to drink less + live more?Join The Sobriety Starter Kit CourseThe Sobriety Starter Kit is my on-demand sober coaching program that’s helped hundreds of women change their relationship with alcohol. Ep. 95: Making Marriage Work After Quitting Drinking

How do you make marriage work after quitting drinking? Most marriages have some common patterns and habits that can make or break the relationship. Problematic patterns can be exacerbated when you’re in the drinking cycle and new habits can be helpful once you stop drinking and your relationship is adjusting to a new normal.Because we use alcohol as a coping mechanism, a way to suppress negative emotions, and a tool to connect with the people around us, there is a learning curve to making marriage work after quitting drinking.Even if you have a strong and happy relationship it’s common to feel defensive, resentful, misunderstood, unappreciated, isolated, secretive or lonely when you’re struggling to moderate your drinking.  And once you’ve stopped drinking it’s normal to go through a phase where you wonder if you and your spouse know how to communicate or have anything in common. For full show notes and to access resources and links mentioned in the episode, head over to www.hellosomedaycoaching.com/95 Ready to drink less + live more?Join The Sobriety Starter Kit CourseI’ve helped thousands of women change their relationship with alcohol and can teach you the step-by-step system you need to break out of the drinking cycle. And grab the  Free 30-Day Guide To Quitting Drinking, 30 Tips For Your First Month Alcohol-Free Connect with CaseyFind out more about Casey and her coaching programs, head over to her website, www.hellosomedaycoaching.com

Ep. 94: Sobriety, Growth & Personal Development

What if drinking isn’t the problem but rather a symptom of the problem? What if it’s masking the deeper personal development work you need to do? What if instead of being a solution, alcohol is sapping your confidence, exacerbating your anxiety and making it harder to connect with others? What if you’re drinking because of fear, limiting beliefs, not feeling good enough, an inability to set healthy boundaries, needing to heal past trauma or break unhealthy patterns? What if removing alcohol could be the first step in growing, changing and returning to yourself?  My guest today is Veronica Valli. She’s an author and co-host of the popular podcast, Soberful. With 20 years of experience as a recovery coach and psychotherapist, Veronica has helped thousands of women stop drinking alcohol and transform their lives. To access resources and links mentioned in the episode, head over to www.hellosomedaycoaching.com/94 Ready to drink less + live more?Join The Sobriety Starter Kit CourseI’ve helped thousands of women change their relationship with alcohol and can teach you the step-by-step system you need to break out of the drinking cycle. And grab the  Free 30-Day Guide To Quitting Drinking, 30 Tips For Your First Month Alcohol-Free Connect with CaseyFind out more about Casey and her coaching programs, head over to her website, www.hellosomedaycoaching.com

Ep.93: Diet Culture, Disordered Eating + How To Stop Fighting Food

Diet culture is everywhere.  NPR reported that in 2021,  50% of all New Year's resolutions in the U.S. were based on fitness, 48% were resolutions to lose weight and 39% of resolutions were to improve one’s diet. We spend over $30 billion on diet products annually and an estimated 45 million Americans diet every year.85% of women have, at one point in their life, been on some kind of a diet, struggled with body image, or both.  And many women who struggle with alcohol also have a complicated relationship with food and their bodies. Our universal immersion in diet culture can also unconsciously sabotage our efforts to stop drinking. When removing alcohol many women worry that they’ll ‘transfer their addiction to food or sugar’ or try to diet at the same time they are working to stop drinking. I invited Isabel Foxen to come on the podcast to talk about diet culture, the socialization of women to believe that being thin equals being healthy, attractive, disciplined and worthy, and the impact of it all.Isabel is a thought leader in intuitive eating and body positive movement and the creator of Stop Fighting Food, a video training series and masterclass for women who want to stop feeling crazy around food. After years of trying to overcome binge eating disorder through weight normative approaches, Isabel discovered the critical role of acceptance, surrender, and social inquiry into binge eating and the recovery process, and has been sharing her insights with clients and professionals ever since. To access resources and links mentioned in the episode, head over to www.hellosomedaycoaching.com/93 Ready to drink less + live more?Join The Sobriety Starter Kit CourseI’ve helped thousands of women change their relationship with alcohol and can teach you the step-by-step system you need to break out of the drinking cycle. And grab the  Free 30-Day Guide To Quitting Drinking, 30 Tips For Your First Month Alcohol-Free Connect with CaseyFind out more about Casey and her coaching programs, head over to her website, www.hellosomedaycoaching.com
