EP173: Choice and Regret
What if the concepts we call ‘choice’ and ‘regret’ have nothing to do with what actually happens in life? What if life lives us, and thought arises talking about intention, control, and a “you” who has intention and control…and that’s what’s happening when we say we made a choice?Likewise, what if regret is simply a conversation playing out that talks about you and what you should have done, but in truth there was no you doing any of it, and nothing can be different than it is? Choice and regret are two concepts that, when unexamined, lead to a ton of suffering. What if they don’t have to? *** If you have ever been interested in becoming a Change Coach, please join the free webinar TODAY, November 8th. I’ll tell you all about the coaching profession and what you can expect from the training personally and professionally. You’ll also hear from a panel of newly certified Change Coaches about their experience. We’ll stay on until all questions are answered. EP171: Deeply Exploring the Nature of Thought
In this episode, I share a practice I’ve been playing with. It’s a deep investigation into the actual experience of thought. It’s me asking “what is this thought thing, really?”It’s me walking right up to a thought and looking at it. Feeling it. Moving closer. Are there images, sounds, or other sensory reflections I find? Are there memories or other thoughts reflected? Can I nail it down? Is it solid or fuzzy, stable or wobbly? What’s behind it? Who is perceiving it?Investigating the actual nature of a thought in this way has been completely mind blowing for me. It’s helped a big layer of illusion begin to peel back and fall away. I invite you to ask yourself–what is thought, really? And then let your experience of it show you. You might be shocked at what you discover. ***If you’ve ever wanted to support people by sharing this understanding, the Change Coach Training Program is unlike any other in terms of the personal feedback, guidance, and support you receive. Check out all the details at dramyjohnson.com/coachtraining.Monday, November 8th, I’ll be hosting a webinar where you can hear all about the 2022 program from me and from a panel of graduates. I’d love to see you there!Register for the webinar at dramyjohnson.com/changecoachwebinar2021The post EP171: Deeply Exploring the Nature of Thought appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.

EP170: A Conversation About Our Apparent Shift From Psychology to Spirituality
In this episode, my friend and coach colleague Piers Thurston and I discuss what it’s been like for our coaching to move from a focus on psychology to a focus on something closer to spirituality or nonduality. We talk about how life looks far simpler than it used to, and why, even given that, we still sometimes talk about psychology. We discuss the many challenges we face, and concessions we make, when pointing clients toward their true, non-psychological identity.Piers tells me how much he hates the title of my new book, Just a Thought, and we talk about there being no problems in the world and there being far more than how things appear. We decided to share this episode on both of our podcasts. If you don’t listen to Piers’ podcast yet, please do check it out here: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/quality-of-mind-realising-exponential-potential/id1401964960***The Just a Thought Book Club begins…NOW! EP169: I Can’t Handle It!
Minds love dramatic, sensational statements. And if you don’t know better, you might be very tempted to take them seriously. They’ll say things like: “I can’t handle this”.“I don’t know how I’ll make it through.”“I’m lost. I don’t know what to do next.”“I’m barely keeping my head above water.”.But here’s the thing: Your mind saying these things is completely irrelevant. Your mind doesn’t know what to do, how things will turn out, how to handle things. But it doesn’t need to.Your mind says these things as life is living you. As things are already being “handled” and as you’re already “making it through”.This episode will show you that these sensational statements are completely irrelevant. They are occurring while life is living you. ***The Just a Thought Book Club begins NEXT Monday, October 18th! The Book Club is an opportunity to dive deep into the book with me. EP168: Siobhan’s Change Story: When Change Doesn’t Look How You Imagined
Siobhan came to the new paradigm a couple different times in the past few years. The first was to find freedom around some habits. She talks about going through The Little School of Big Change a few years ago, solidly focused on her behavior (which is NOT how I recommend doing it!). Even while tracking her behaviors she had some insights, but they didn’t land as deeply as she would have liked. Then she took a break. On her break, she became certified in a coaching method that’s all about changing thoughts. After that certification, she came back to rewatch the LSBC curriculum and wondered how she missed all of this the first time through! This time around, things landed in a huge way. Siobhan now deeply sees that thought changes on its own. Why work so hard to change it when it does that by itself? She deeply sees that it’s not so serious. Her levity and compassion are apparent in how she writes, talks, and coaches around this..She says she most wants people to know that how you think your change will look is probably not at all how it will actually look. She wants you to know that seeds are planted and will sprout in ways we can never predict. EP164: Minds Compare
Your brain is a big ole’ know-it-all. Its job is to keep you alive, and the more it knows, the more assumed certainty it has, the better it can do that job. It’s a know-it-all because it loves you and it wants to do well by you. One of the ways minds scramble for assumed certainty is to compare. Minds create your identity–who they think you are–and then compare that creation to everything and everyone.Which is fine, really. It’s just what minds do. But it can make a life feel very small when we take our mind’s comparisons as truth. They are not truth. They are not accurate, even when they feel really, really accurate. They are just another way a mind does what a mind does. The more we can see about these universal mind processes, the freer from them we are. ***My new book, just a thought, will be out in just three weeks, on October 1st.And I’m having a party to celebrate! On Friday, October 1st I’ll be hosting a free Book Launch party where I’ll be sharing some inside scoop about the book and also giving away some amazing party favors like FIVE free seats in the JaT book club and signed copies of the paperback. EP163: Minds Worry
This podcast explores the universal mental process of worry and how it is not something that defines us. It traces the origins of worry and discusses its intelligent nature as a survival mechanism.
