EP162: How to End the Drinking Habit

In this episode, I share some of the most helpful themes that came up in the 4-week overdrinking workshop I recently led. Questions like: Isn’t alcohol different from other habits because it is a drug that involves physical addiction? (If we were trying to manage experience, this would probably make a big difference. But we’re not managing anything).I share our discussions around the tug-of-war feeling that is part of many habits, including overdrinking, and how we can rise above that (rather than pulling harder on the “right” side of the rope).I discuss how not wanting to feel emotions is the real issue, and how there is no spiritual bypassing of feelings that I’ve ever seen work. I talk about generalizing, and how seeing our mind’s propensity to generalize is the way into feeling anything that shows up.And I’ll share some of the discussion I had with the group around conditioning and how we are all taught to believe that alcohol has magical powers that it simply doesn’t have. Not that we don’t experience things when we drink, but those experiences aren’t coming from the alcohol. If you would like to drink less than you currently do, or if you’re struggling with any habit at all, this discussion will be very helpful. Enjoy!***If you’d like to be a fly on the wall while five people are coached around their drinking habit over the course of 4 weeks, watching them have insights and see things in a new way, check out the Freedom from Overdrinking course here:  https://www.dramyjohnson.com/freedomfromoverdrinkingThe Little School of Big Change begins next Monday, August 30th! EP161: Anne Wilin: A New Experience of Chronic Pain due to Anxiety

Anne experienced anxiety and worry for as long as she could remember. As is often the case, it showed up physically, as well as emotionally. She often felt sick, had headaches, and experienced pain that would move to different places in her body. She tried many things for her pain (including surgery), and some things for her anxiety. But it was when she came across the New Paradigm that things really began to turn around. I absolutely loved hearing Anne talk about her journey and how she sees things now. I know you will too. Anne is now a Change Coach who helps others with these issues–her life experience has made her a really powerful coach! She also has a passion for sharing this understanding with children and teachers, as a former teacher herself. You can see more about Anne here: https://coachannewilin.mystrikingly.com/***The Little School of Big Change Fall 2021 course begins August 30th!If you want freedom like Anne’s, please join us. EP160: How I Realized I Had Changed by the Example of my New Book Title, Which Was Hated

When I initially heard the title my publisher proposed for my upcoming book Just a Thought, I absolutely, positively hated it.  I literally said (over and over) “there is no way that will be the title of my book”.And, well, things change. Within a couple months, I had a change of mind. Or a change of heart. Or maybe both. The change that happened still shocks me and it’s shown me a few things about change. I share them in this episode. ***The Little School of Big Change Fall 2021 course begins August 30th!If you want a change of mind and heart, please join us.buy nolvadex online buy nolvadex no prescription no prescription Save your seat and $47 when you pre-enroll today: https://dramyjohnson.com/lsbc-fall-registration-page/***Also, the Just a Thought Book Club will begin in mid October. EP159: Phillip’s Change Story: Free from Addiction and Free to Feel Everything

Phillip has been alcohol-free, after a lifetime of drinking, for a year this summer. He quit smoking this year too, after having smoked since the age of 13. But the fact that he no longer smokes or drinks are just details. They are incredible details, don’t get me wrong, but when you know Phillip, you know that a huge transformation is taking place. A transformation that goes far beyond drinking and smoking. For the first time in his life, Phillip feels everything. And he loves it (even when he hates it!). He feels life moving through him fully, in a way that is pure and childlike and beautiful to witness.Feeling life, rather than pushing it away, has made way for amazing synchronicity, creativity, and joy in Phillip’s life. You’ll love hearing from him!***The Little School of Big Change Fall 2021 course begins August 30th!If you want freedom like Phillip’s, please join us. EP158: Preoccupied

I recently heard something so simple. Everyone who is suffering is preoccupied.  Preoccupation is the only problem there is. Some thought has occupied our focus such that we’re no longer sensing what’s there pre thought. The world we experience is a perfect reflection of what we’re preoccupied with. I think you’ll sense a whole new level of simplicity in this episode! EP156: How Generalizing is Keeping you Stuck in Habits and Anxiety

Brains generalize in order to make sense of the world in the most predictive, efficient way possible.  And while there are a lot of necessary benefits of this, there are some drawbacks too. We lose some nuance and fluidity when we’re hanging out in a highly generalized view of things. Our experience tends to be habitual, repetitive, and familiar, which aren’t great when we’re dealing with habits or anxiety. In this episode, I’ll discuss how most of our habitual reactions are the result of us hanging out high up on the ladder of generalization. As we move down the ladder to a more nuanced, less certain, more fluid and new experience, habits and anxiety not only look different……they literally don’t exist. The post EP156: How Generalizing is Keeping you Stuck in Habits and Anxiety appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.

EP155: Being Yourself with Dr. Robert Solomon

Me and Dr. Bob Solomon are major geeks for helping people be themselves again. From the time we’re babies, we’re taught how to be. Don’t cry. Be a good girl or a good boy. Say please. Be grateful. Do the right thing. This is the beginning of us being led away from what feels right to us. As well-meaning as it is, it’s us being led away from natural, heart-centered living to rule-based, head-centered living. And it is just the beginning. Our societies, religions, and political systems pick up where our parents left off. As we live from rules and expectations and lose touch with living authentically, the results are not good–people pleasing, approval seeking, feeling disconnected from ourselves and others, unfulfilled, and unsure what we like or want. Bob and I believe that living inauthentically is at the root of all anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and addiction. As pervasive as our conditioning is, there is a ton of hope for living more from our hearts. We can always come back to being ourselves because it’s natural. It’s essential. We’re designed for it. And the payoffs are amazing, from ease and fulfillment, clarity and peace of mind, and connection with yourself, others, and the world. In this conversation, we discuss how being yourself and living a heart-based, authentic life can literally reverse pretty much any problem on our planet. I know you’ll get so much from this episode. EP154: Where’s the Habit in Anxiety?

I view anxiety as a habit. (To be fair, I view most things–including personality, identity, and moods–as habits too).People who struggle with anxiety ask me about this all the time. They say “I can see how nail biting or binge eating or drinking is a habit. But how is anxiety a habit?”“Where’s the habit in anxiety? I just get overwhelmed with a flood of fear and physical symptoms. It happens from out of nowhere. How is that a habit?”It’s a good question, isn’t it? “Anxiety” is nothing until our mind labels it. Then it feels like something. Often, along with that label comes resistance and a slew of habitual responses attempting to make that energy called “anxiety” go away. There is no “anxiety”, at least none that feels like a problem, without resistance. ***If anxiety, worry, or intrusive thoughts are something you struggle with, I’d really love for you to check out a course I just led called Freedom From Intrusive Thoughts: A No-Willpower Approach to Peace of Mind, at https://dramyjohnson.com/freedom-from-intrusive-thoughts/In this course you’ll get to follow 4 amazing women who were struggling with intrusive thoughts and other forms of anxiety as I coach them for 8 hours, over a month. You’ll get to follow their journey, see their insights, and watch how really huge change happened for them. If you’re struggling with anxiety in any way, watching the journey of these 4 women is so insightful. I absolutely know you’ll come out seeing things VERY differently, just like they did. The post EP154: Where’s the Habit in Anxiety? appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.

EP153: A New Way to Stop Binge Eating with Maria Brigantino

Maria Brigantino helps people become free of eating issues because she’s been there herself. In this episode, we talk about how Maria went through anorexia, bulimia, obsession with her weight, and early trauma to where she is today–feeling grateful for these struggles and the deep peace they revealed to her. She shares how relief from her habit was a tiny part of the process. The ways in which her life has opened up as she’s come to deeply see who-she-is and how her mind works are the real reward. (This is the case for nearly everyone we both work with, by the way).We also talk about a course we recently led together called Freedom from Binge Eating with 4 amazing women. We’ll share some highlights of what we saw in these women throughout the month-long course, how their process went, and what it shows us about how ALL change works (hint: ironically, the less you’re staring at the problem, the more it simply isn’t one). There is so much in this conversation that will be incredibly helpful for anyone with any habit. If you’re struggling with binge eating, please check out my course with Maria here: https://dramyjohnson.com/freedom-from-binge-eating-a-new-way-to-stop-the-binge-eating-habit/Watching others going through this, and watching how Maria and I support them through it, is so insightful. To see more about Maria and find out more about her offerings, check out her website: www.m-path.ca The post EP153: A New Way to Stop Binge Eating with Maria Brigantino appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.

EP152: What Are We Talking About Here, Anyway?

My friends Sarah and Anthony have a wonderful webinar series called Beautiful Feelings Within where they share the New Paradigm.  They’d done several webinars with the two of them, and some with guests. A few webinars in, someone who was unfamiliar with this understanding but had been listening along asked, “What is this that we’re talking about, anyway?”Indeed. What is it? I get this question a lot too. We can absolutely get a feel for things by listening in; dabbling here and there. But it can also be incredibly helpful to have a bit more structure and context. What is it? From where did it come? When I was a guest on their webinar series recently, they asked me to speak to this excellent, foundational question. I want to share that conversation with you here, in case you’ve been wondering “What are we talking about here, anyway?”You can find Beautiful Feelings Within on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2sakKCS0EnexZDPFrNglHg/featuredTo join these amazing conversations live yourself, just reach out to Sarah and she’ll share the zoom link: https://www.wellofbeing.co.uk/***If you’d like to check out the brand new, self-study version of The Little School of Big Change, check it out here: https://dramyjohnson.com/lsbc-self-study/And for the brand new, self-study version of my Change Coach Training, check that out here: https://dramyjohnson.com/change-coach-training-the-home-study-course/ The post EP152: What Are We Talking About Here, Anyway? appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.
