Grace + Boundaries: Navigating Intergenerational Trauma with Erin Hearts
Erin Hearts
Grace + Boundaries is a weekly memoir in a podcast! Follow host, Erin Hearts, as she shares how she navigates trauma while setting boundaries from her higher self. Traumas, big or small, can add up to broken relationships within a family. These traumas continue being passed down until we take steps to repair and mend our broken hearts with self-care and psychological education. Gaining emotional maturity is also a large part of the path towards grace and boundaries. Erin has walked the path of trauma recovery for the past decade, and is learning day by day how to evolve from the hurt she feels in order to become the graceful, loving woman she has always intended to be. Erin has a Master's degree in Education, creatively teaches middle school, is a musician, and loves being a single mom to her tweenaged boy. Grace + Boundaries has been the name of this podcast since July 2023. From November 2021- June 2023, this podcast was called "Self-Care for Survivors of Trauma." This podcast is a community of honest, open-minded survivors of all types of trauma, big and small. Each week, host Erin Hearts will discuss an aspect of self-care- emotional, physical, spiritual, etc.- and share how she navigates life's challenges by doing special things for herself and making time for herself each day. Erin believes that learning how to take care of ourselves is the key to healthy relationships with others, and she's devoted the past six years to studying and practicing how to better love and support herself and her loved ones. Erin is a single mom, teacher, musician, and highly sensitive person. Instagram: @iheartserin

Episode 75: Self-Care for Immigrant Mamas with Nurzhan Sterbenz
Today's guest hosts the podcast Foreign-Born Mamas. She hopes to help immigrant moms listen to their bodies, learn how to self-care and grow to become their authentic selves in this new country they call home. Nurzhan shares about growing up impoverished physically and emotionally before immigrating to the United States as an adult. The trauma she faced as a young person was not discussed or acknowledged much at all in her family. She hadn't confronted her past until a year ago when she started having debilitating body spasms. These physical symptoms led her to becoming educated about what trauma she has been through, and started her on her journey to understanding her nervous system and self-care rituals that work for her. We get deep in this episode- discussing the promises made to immigrants and the allure and "hamster-wheel" of the capitalistic United States. Our intention is to validate trauma survivors to ackowledge the invisible traumas they have been through and to encourage others to open these conversations amongts themselves. Episode 71: ACEs and Intergenerational Trauma
Have you heard of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)? There is a 10-question test to see how much trauma you endured as a child. This test is a great start towards building more awareness around mental health in our world, but for me, a survivor of invisible abuse (emotional neglect/abuse), it falls very short in encompassing the vast ways trauma can be inflicted on a human. I discuss ACEs and what's missing for that test. I share how individuals who have grandparents who were alcoholics/addicts are severely affected by this family progression. Intergenerational trauma has a reach of up to seven generations, some experts say. Here are some resources to learn more about these topics: ACEs: https://www.preventchildabusenc.org/resource-hub/aces-study/10-Question Test:https://experiencelife.lifetime.life/article/how-childhood-adversity-creates-toxic-stress/Breaking the Cycle of Intergenerational Trauma: https://www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/2023/03/23/intergenerational-trauma-mental-health/Thank you for listening!
