Episode 75: Self-Care for Immigrant Mamas with Nurzhan Sterbenz
Today's guest hosts the podcast Foreign-Born Mamas. She hopes to help immigrant moms listen to their bodies, learn how to self-care and grow to become their authentic selves in this new country they call home.
Nurzhan shares about growing up impoverished physically and emotionally before immigrating to the United States as an adult. The trauma she faced as a young person was not discussed or acknowledged much at all in her family. She hadn't confronted her past until a year ago when she started having debilitating body spasms. These physical symptoms led her to becoming educated about what trauma she has been through, and started her on her journey to understanding her nervous system and self-care rituals that work for her.
We get deep in this episode- discussing the promises made to immigrants and the allure and "hamster-wheel" of the capitalistic United States.
Our intention is to validate trauma survivors to ackowledge the invisible traumas they have been through and to encourage others to open these conversations amongts themselves.
