Just like Charton Heston in that movie about Moses and the Ten Commandments (what was it called?), Catherine and Donald present ten or so principles for healthy and sustainable weight loss. Instead of carving them into stone tablets, the couple record them onto a podcast which makes it easier to listen to. They discuss eyeballing condiments, eating off of the plates of others, negative self-talk, N.E.A.T, motivation, and more. Plus, Catherine acts like a trained unicyclist, Donald crosses the line between Bible talk and pirate talk, and eating hummus is basically like eating nature.

First, we were told that fats were bad. Then we were told that carbs were bad. Next it was processed foods that were bad and cooked foods that were bad and on and on it went until the only things left that were “good” were Tab and celery. This week, Catherine and Donald discuss working your favorite foods into your diet without the guilt and shame. There are no “good” foods or “bad” foods; food doesn’t have a moral value. You can Portion, Plan, Pair, have a Policy and other “P-words” (revealed in the episode) so that you achieve your health and fitness goals and still enjoy the food that you are eating. Plus, Catherine rides the alphavater, Donald has all of the food-based holidays on his calendar, and Pluto is a dwarf letter.

Would you use a game spinner to choose an exercise routine? How about flipping a coin to pick your diet plan? What about using a Pop-O-Matic to figure out how many calories you’ll eat? You probably said “no” to all of these questions, but most people engage in bargaining or magical thinking at some point during their weight-loss adventure. People say things like, “Oh great and powerful wizard of the scale, if you just help me out this time, I promise I’ll be good from now on”. Donald and Catherine have been there too and this week the couple talk about why we do it and how to stop rolling the dice with our health and fitness decisions. The more agency and responsibility you take for yourself the more empowered you feel. Plus, Donald thinks clovers are orange, Catherine is all about the toy surprise, and at least one fortune cookie gives good advice.

What also never changes is the desire that some people have to do almost anything other than count calories. They’d rather take any kind of pill, have any kind of surgery, or eat any kind of terrible tasting “superfood”, than track the calories that they eat. This week, Catherine and Donald give you the lowdown on why you should track your calories and some ways to adjust your mindset about it. It turns out that calories have consequences. Plus, Donald plays a tune on his cauliflower ukulele, Catherine throws out the baby with the Brussels sprouts, and the couple delivers the podcast equivalent of a blow to the solar plexus.
