Zak Morris: Kettlebell Training, Mastering the Turkish Getup, Snatch, and MORE!
In this episode of the Brawn Body Health and Fitness Podcast, Dan is joined by Zakary Morris to discuss Kettlebell Training, how to master complex kettlebell movements such as the snatch, Turkish getup, bent press, benefits of training with kettlebells, and so much more!
Zakary Morris is a self-published author and a Strongfirst SFG1 certified kettlebell instructor who is devoted to exploring the possibilities of training with kettlebells in order to help people become stronger. He is the author of “Simple Snatch Programming” and “Wielding Excalibur” which is geared toward improving the kettlebell snatch and the bottom up press respectively. Zak graduated from Western Governors University in 2018 and completed an MBA with an IT Management concentration. Over the past two years, Zak has developed communities within Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok while connecting with like-minded people and focusing upon camaraderie, shared interest, and becoming better as an athlete. When he is not training, Zak is a systems administrator and has worked in the banking industry for the last 11 years. Zach Conrad: The 200th Episode Special
In the 200th episode of the Brawn Body Health and Fitness Podcast, Dan is joined by none other than his high school best friend, Zach Conrad. The two discuss Zach's journey from early life through college football up to his current success as an engineer. The duo also reflect on their senior year football season together, the work they put in lifting together, lessons from their life, and their friendship, sharing their insight, advice, and lessons learned to motivate and inspire others.
Zach Conrad is a good friend and former high school football teammate of Dan. Graduating from Marietta College with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering in 2020, he was recently featured in the American Petroleum Institute's 2022 National ad campaign: "The State of American Energy", where he shared his life story of growing up in a small town with big dreams and great mentors. Prior to trading in his cleats for work boots during his junior year of college, Zach was an Academic All Conference long snapper in the Division III Ohio Athletic Conference following a successful high school career as an All-State linebacker.

Dr. Sabrina Strickland: A Deep Dive into Knee Injuries, Knee Arthritis, Skiing Injuries, and more!
In this episode of the Brawn Body Health and Fitness Podcast, Dan is joined by Dr. Sabrina Strickland from Hospital for Special Surgery to discuss common knee injuries and surgical interventions, including ACL tears, patellar instability, patellar tracking issues, osteoarthritis of the knee, injections for knee pain, skiing injuries, and more!
Dr. Sabrina Strickland is board certified in sports medicine and orthopedic surgery at HSS, where she specializes in patellofemoral surgery for instability, cartilage disease, ACL and meniscal surgery and shoulder surgery. She completed her residency and fellowship in sports medicine at HSS after completing medical school at Rush in Chicago. Prior to that, Dr. Strickland received her BA from Cornell University. Currently, Dr. Strickland is an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. She retired from her part-time position as the Chief of Orthopedics at the VA in 2012 after seven years of service. Dr. Strickland is also the co-founder of the HSS Patellofemoral Center
Dr. Strickland is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. Her research focuses on the knee joint, specifically cartilage transplants, patellofemoral arthritis and instability, and ACL and meniscal repair. Prior to pursuing her medical career, Dr. Strickland was a ski instructor during college at Stratton and spent a year skiing in Crested Butte, Colorado where she still has a home. She has 3 daughters who all ski raced and now one is graduating from Hotchkiss and going to Boston College next year, one is graduating from Berkshire and going to Cornell and a third who is finishing up her sophomore year at Cornell. In her spare time, Dr. Strickland enjoys skiing, hiking near her home in Salisbury, CT, and paddle boarding on Twin Lakes.

Chris Gronkowski: The Cost of Success in Entrepreneurship and Sports
In this episode of the Brawn Body Health and Fitness Podcast, Dan is joined by former NFL player and founder of Ice Shaker, Chris Gronkowski. The two discuss the cost of success in relation to entrepreneurship and sports, with many references to Chris' own journey and story!
Chris Gronkowski is the owner and inventor of the Ice Shaker. He first made a career for himself as a professional football player. He joined the NFL in 2010 after being signed by the Dallas Cowboys as a fullback. During his years in the NFL, Gronkowski also played for the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. In 2016, he decided to put his entrepreneurial skills to the test when he set out to create a protein shaker bottle that would alleviate many of the issues, he and other avid athletes experience with standard protein shakers. Ice shaker continues to grow and expand, and now offers a wide array of new products, including coolers!

Derek Millender: Journey to Becoming an NBA Strength Coach, Strength Training for Basketball Players, and More!
In this episode of the Brawn Body Health and Fitness Podcast, Dan is joined by Derek Milender, Head Strength Coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers, to discuss his journey from Pensacola, Florida to Head Strength Coach for an NBA team. Derek shares every step of his journey, from his initial interest in basketball to his transition into the NBA. Derek also discusses essential factors to consider while training basketball players from a strength & conditoning perspective.
Derek Millender was named Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers in August 2013. He was previously the Cavaliers’ assistant strength and conditioning coach for three seasons. Millender is responsible for coordinating the team’s in-season and off-season performance testing and monitoring, and strength and conditioning. Millender also incorporates other training programs such as yoga and Pilates into player individualized programs. In addition to developing in-season programs, he works individually with each player during the offseason to prepare them for the rigors of an NBA season. He also works with a registered dietician closely to recommend the right foods at the right time (Nutrient Timing), along with supplement recommendation.
Prior to joining the Cavaliers, he was the head strength and conditioning coach for Cleveland State University from 2007-10. He also spent two years in the Cleveland Indians organization (2006 Mahoning Valley Scrappers (A), 2007 Akron Aeros (AA)). The Pensacola, Florida native completed his undergrad studies in 2004 at the University of South Alabama and earned his Master’s Degree in Exercise Science from Cleveland State University in 2010. Millender is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach * D with Distinction (10yrs as a certified strength and conditioning coach) a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and is also a Sports Performance Coach through United States Weightlifting (USAW).
