#144: Dmitri Leonov - The Intersection of Technology & Wellness: Taopatch

Dmitri Leonov is a co-founder of Taopatch USA. Taopatch is a patented wearable nanotechnology device that combines acupuncture with light therapy. It is cutting edge technology combined with ancient healing wisdom, and it is changing people’s lives. Listeners of the podcast will know that I am ALL for anything “ancient healing” or “traditional medicine”. Add in some cutting edge technology and I was sold the minute I heard about Taopatch. Now we’ve obviously got to be skeptical about these things and I’m the first to say that, but Dmitri and Taopatch did not disappoint. This was a fascinating conversation about the product and the ways in which it works to make people feel better. From MS and Parkinson’s patients, to world-class athletes like Novak Djokovic. There is something for everyone in this conversation and many thoughts worth some deep consideration. Taopatch is available worldwide. To learn more, visit the website taopatch.co. *A note on the audio quality of this episode: the original recording failed to save, so the audio you hear from me is the backup recording device. Still great, just not as crisp as usual. Always have a backup!* The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #143: Katie Bramlett - Shaping a New Approach to Fitness

Katie Bramlett is a co-founder of WeShape (@weshape.wellness). WeShape aims to offer an inclusive approach to fitness - focusing more on movement, intention, community, rest, and connection with self, as opposed to focusing on the number on the scale. Katie has been in the fitness industry for many years, and her own personal journey with fitness and with personal development led to the creation of WeShape. Weight loss culture can be extremely difficult to navigate. There is more information and help available than ever, but there is also more noise than ever before. If we’ve learned anything, we can agree that there is no single approach that is best for everyone. How would we define “best” anyways? WeShape's approach aims to shift the focus to how exercise and movement makes you feel. We discussed this transition and why it’s important. We discussed some of the negatives in fitness that WeShape is trying to move away from, but more importantly, the positives in which they are trying to shift towards. Katie has graciously offered a 2 week free trial to listeners of the podcast. Head to weshape.com/danielyores to take advantage and give it a try! The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #142: Do You Even Lift? (A Guide to Looking Like You Lift)

Looking like you lift is a very distinct look, that everyone knows, all around the world. It’s a look where nobody is surprised when you tell them you go to the gym. Not the look of a competitor or model, but the look of a strong person. While there’s no way to definitively measure this, I think it’s safe to say this is a goal for most people. And yet, there are lots of people who are in the gym week in and week out, and don’t look like they lift. *a note to the sensitive people of the internet: looking like you lift doesn’t make anyone a better or worse human than anyone else. Looking like you lift doesn’t necessarily mean you are healthy. Having this as a goal doesn’t make anyone good or bad.* Anyways… In this episode I use this as a frame to really improve the way your body looks. Essentially, this is a guide to losing body fat and building muscle. Because in reality, that’s what “looking like you lift” means: being lean enough and having enough muscle. Share this episode with your gym buddies, and hopefully it helps you finally look like you lift. The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #141: Mark Young - Strength Training Might Save Your Life

Mark Young (@markyoungfit) is a personal trainer and fitness coach for Sequence, a large online weight loss program. In 2022, Mark went into the hospital for a routine medical procedure. For unknown reasons, he woke up 5 weeks later. A cascade of events led to many ups and downs over the next weeks and months. More than a year later, Mark overcame the odds and made it through and is still smiling, and still serving the world. Mark tells the story of what happened to him and everything that he’s been through. The major takeaway is that what happened to Mark was a freak bit of bad luck and completely unpredictable, and things like this DO happen in various forms. Yet he’s still here and doing well, much better than doctors anticipated. Why? Well, we’ll never know all the details. But we do know that all of the strength training and all of the general health practices that Mark’s implemented for years and years prior to this certainly had a massively positive impact on the outcome - and effectively saved his life. It’s cool to lift weights and get big and have a 6 pack and all that. But it could also save your life, which is way more important. Be sure to connect with Mark on Facebook where he’s most active and check out his new website markedtoinspire.com.The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #140: Julia Shelley - From Timbuktu to the Pro Stage: How to Stay Fit While Traveling the World

Julia Shelley (@juliashelley) is the Founder of Army of Angels, a Women’s Transformation Group. She’s also a WBFF Champion, and a former UN flight attendant. She’s lived all over the world, including places like Timbuktu (who knew it was real!) all while finding creative ways to train and stay in shape, and always make the best of less-than-ideal situations. In this conversation Julia told her story about her introduction to fitness and how that intertwined with her curiosity of the world to combine for some of the most unique life experiences you’ll ever hear about. It’s not always easy to stay on track when we don’t have our perfect setup, yet Julia was able to make-do even while being in war zones. Fitness can also give you so much more than ripped abs - it can be an anchor to keep you grounded in difficult situations, it can be a community to support you, and so much more. This is what Julia now brings to her Army of Angels. It’s primarily an online group, but she also hosts retreats in unique destinations for the group to physically come together to eat, train, bond and grow together. In addition to her story, this conversation is packed full of practical takeaways that can be applied to your fitness with any travel you might do, or even just any variable circumstances you might have to deal with at home. Be sure to follow Julia on IG (@juliashelley) as well as check out her coaching group Army of Angels (@army.0f.angels) to stay tuned for the next retreat! The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #139: How to Evaluate Fitness Advice Online

Bit of a different direction with this podcast. This will help you while you’re at home before implementing what you saw online in the gym. By the way, everything in this episode also applies to anything I say as well, I am not special or exempt from this. The fitness info available online is wonderful and horrible all at the same time. The tips and thoughts in this episode should help you navigate it better, so that you can make the best decisions for yourself. Always remember to use this filter: “If it was that easy or simple, why doesn’t everybody just do that.” Answering that question will do you well when considering many claims online. The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #138: Mark Carbone - Using Breathwork to Alleviate Stress and Improve Health & Performance

Mark Carbone is the CEO of PN Medical, makers of intelligent medical devices for the pulmonary and speech fields. He serves as lead inventor overseeing creation of their new device and software, Breather 2. He's also chief visionary, recruiter, deal maker, and leader of the company.Breathing is one of the most basic, fundamental human functions. We can go days without food or water, but only minutes without breath. And yet, most of us have not taken a conscious breath in a very long time - maybe ever. On top of that, breathing is a mechanical task as well, and if we haven’t been taught any better, most people are actually not very efficient at the actual act of breathing. Mark discussed how to practice breathing and some of the various techniques that can be used. Including using PN Medical’s Breather 2 device. There are different applications for this spanning from high performance sport, every day people, and even those recovering from various health conditions. Breathing is important, and breathing well is important. It’s about time to learn how to breathe. To learn more about PN Medical, visit their website, for more info about breathwork, visit Breather University, and follow them on IG @thebreather. The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #136: Adam Badger - The 2 Key Principles You Need to Get Lean & Build Muscle

Adam Badger (@badgerstrength) is a coach, host of the Talkin’ Fit Podcast, husband, and father. He trains clients both online and in person, and mainly focuses on helping other busy parents lose weight and set a healthy example for their kids. As a precursor to this conversation, I was a guest on Adam’s podcast a little while back, and you can find that episode here. This was a fun conversation with a lot of super relevant advice that’s applicable in so many areas. Adam is such a down to earth person that truly understands the difficulties people face, and that comes through so clearly in his advice. We spent a lot of time talking about how to get out of the trap of comparing yourself to others. This especially applies to fitness, but really to anything. Towards the end Adam laid out the 2 key principles for fitness which is not some grand secret but it’s just so well laid out. There are so many ways to go about getting fit, but all useful approaches use these principles. Be sure to follow Adam Badger on IG, visit his website, and check out his podcast. The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend.
