#138: Mark Carbone - Using Breathwork to Alleviate Stress and Improve Health & Performance

Mark Carbone is the CEO of PN Medical, makers of intelligent medical devices for the pulmonary and speech fields. He serves as lead inventor overseeing creation of their new device and software, Breather 2. He's also chief visionary, recruiter, deal maker, and leader of the company.Breathing is one of the most basic, fundamental human functions. We can go days without food or water, but only minutes without breath. And yet, most of us have not taken a conscious breath in a very long time - maybe ever. On top of that, breathing is a mechanical task as well, and if we haven’t been taught any better, most people are actually not very efficient at the actual act of breathing. Mark discussed how to practice breathing and some of the various techniques that can be used. Including using PN Medical’s Breather 2 device. There are different applications for this spanning from high performance sport, every day people, and even those recovering from various health conditions. Breathing is important, and breathing well is important. It’s about time to learn how to breathe. To learn more about PN Medical, visit their website, for more info about breathwork, visit Breather University, and follow them on IG @thebreather. The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #136: Adam Badger - The 2 Key Principles You Need to Get Lean & Build Muscle

Adam Badger (@badgerstrength) is a coach, host of the Talkin’ Fit Podcast, husband, and father. He trains clients both online and in person, and mainly focuses on helping other busy parents lose weight and set a healthy example for their kids. As a precursor to this conversation, I was a guest on Adam’s podcast a little while back, and you can find that episode here. This was a fun conversation with a lot of super relevant advice that’s applicable in so many areas. Adam is such a down to earth person that truly understands the difficulties people face, and that comes through so clearly in his advice. We spent a lot of time talking about how to get out of the trap of comparing yourself to others. This especially applies to fitness, but really to anything. Towards the end Adam laid out the 2 key principles for fitness which is not some grand secret but it’s just so well laid out. There are so many ways to go about getting fit, but all useful approaches use these principles. Be sure to follow Adam Badger on IG, visit his website, and check out his podcast. The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. Chuck Rinker is the CEO of PRSONAS. PRSONAS is a digital personality engine, bringing human engagement to self-service solutions in hospitals, tele-health, virtual visits, and various commercial healthcare markets. Despite what the nay-sayers claim, the most likely outcome is that AI will improve human efficiency and productivity, and make things better overall. Understandably, this can be difficult to comprehend so I was pleased to be able to speak with Chuck who’s been working with AI and cutting-edge technology his whole career. He has a deep understanding of the implications of it and how it will help us. This is especially true in the healthcare space, which our conversation focused on mostly, and how PRSONAS is already making huge improvements in hospitals and the overall patient experience. To learn more, visit the PRSONAS website, and connect with Chuck on LinkdIn.The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #134: Richard Bucciarelli - The Myth of Overtraining & How to Use Progressive Overload

Richard Bucciarelli (@richardbucciarelli) is the owner of Speed Training in Vaughan, Ontario. Richard and the team at Speed Training use state of the art technology and scientifically validated training methods that help athletes and regular people perform their absolute best. These methods have also been used with hundreds or thousands of athletes and are applicable to sport and the real world, not just in the gym. Richard and I spoke on the podcast a while back, in episode 16 of the podcast. This conversation nicely complements and extends that previous conversation, and you can find that here if you like. The main topic of today’s conversation is around the concept of overtraining and why it’s grossly misunderstood and poorly applied, actually leading to worse outcomes in athletes. Building off that, Richard does an incredible job of explaining what progressive overload is (a term you may be familiar with) and how to apply it to your training. In short, if you’re not progressively overloading, you’re not getting better. Plain and simple. Understanding and applying this concept is crucial to your success. Speed Training has just moved into a new facility in the heart of Vaughan, head to the website to learn more and visit the Lab! The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #133: Fitness Tips That Work Better Than They Should + Q&A 7

It’s been a bit since a solo episode so there were some questions to get to but there were also a bunch of general thoughts on my mind regarding fitness that didn’t deserve a whole episode but were valuable to share. A sort of series of tips and tricks I’ve picked up of seemingly innocent things that end up having a greater positive effect than they should. Not some sort of magic trick or anything like that, but it’s sort of like how buying new gym clothes can help your performance. It’s not that the clothes make you lift heavier, but there seems to be some trickle down positive effect that for many people can lead to more progress. Things like that. Small adjustments that when added together are greater than the sum of their parts. I also did get to some Q&A first. Questions were about:Cardio vs weightsTime saving workoutsFood quality vs food quantityCalculating calories burned Hydration drinksMeal prep tipsIntermittent fastingI hope you gain something insightful and/or useful from this episode. PSA: If you are getting married in 2024, I WANT TO WORK WITH YOU. Let’s get you in the absolute best shape of your life for your big day. Let me take all the thinking off your plate, so all you have to do is execute to look and feel great. #132: Jordan Veiga - 1000+ Pull Ups a Day to Set a World Record and Improve Mental Health

Jordan Veiga (@jveiga4) is a man on a mission. He is a 2x World Record Holder, and going for a 3rd: The Most Mixed Grip Pull Ups in a Year. So far in 2023, he’s hit over 1000 pull ups every single day. Why? To fuel a mental health revolution. The Set The Bar Project (@setthebarproject) is in support of the NAMI foundation. Jordan went through his own mental health struggles and turned to the gym as a major tool (among others) to help heal himself. He wanted to then see how far he could take this, and here we are, he’s now setting world records and hitting over 1000 pull ups a day. The crazy part of this to me, is that Jordan isn’t a “fitness professional”. This isn’t his job to work out all day. He just works extremely hard at hammering the basics of fitness and nutrition to take the best care of himself. We spoke about Jordan’s training methods (which blew me away), how he got started doing this, how he even manages to accomplish this every single day, some of the behind the scenes of setting a world record, his struggles with mental health, and so much more. PLEASE share this episode with everyone you know. This is an absolutely incredible story, and is for such a great cause. Jordan is an impressive person, and he is a great person to be a role model to many. Follow along Jordans journey on his IG, and tune into his daily live streams of his workouts on YouTube. Also, check out the NAMI foundation, for ways you can contribute. The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #131: Nate Norman - The 8 Pillars of Masculinity & Conquering The Grey Man

Nate Norman (@_NateNorman) is a believer, father, husband, speaker, author, coach and teammate. He is the founder of the SRX90 program, helping men conquer The Grey Man. He’s a straight shooter with a huge heart, and I’m very glad I had the chance to speak with him, and share this conversation with you. You know when you meet someone for the first time, and you can tell that they genuinely care about you and your wellbeing, and are incredibly passionate about what they’re talking about? It’s rare, but that’s Nate. We didn’t record it, but after we finished Nate said a prayer for us and had picked up on some real throw away statements during the discussion that meant a lot. That’s how you know. I mention all that to say: listen to this man. He cares, a lot, and is very good at what he does. The Grey Man is a concept that all men know intuitively, maybe not by name, but when he describes it you know. You’ve either been that man, are that man, or know that man. And it’s not someone you want to be. But it’s not necessarily your fault. You may have nobody to guide you out of it. This is where Nate’s pillars of masculinity come into play, which he coaches in the SRX90 program. We need more men like Nate. Especially those who don’t have strong male figures in their life. It’s tough out there, but thanks to the internet, there are people willing and able to support you if you seek them and give them a chance. Nate is very active on Twitter/X @_NateNorman, and the next round of the SRX90 program is starting soon, click here for more information. The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #130: Dr. Cory Torgerson - Porn & the Rise of ED, Men’s Hormonal Health and The Big Shot

Dr. Cory Torgerson (@corytorgerson) is one of Canada's most respected men’s health and intimacy performance experts and one of the country’s top facial plastic surgeons. He runs The Sovereign Male clinic located in the Yorkville area of downtown Toronto where they specialize in everything to do with men’s health, including treatments utilizing The Big Shot. Men’s health is a quickly growing niche of medicine. As men become more open to reach out for help, we learn more about andropause, and really smart people are developing new medical technologies to enhance men’s lives - enter Dr. Cory Torgerson. This conversation gave me a fresh perspective on the topics of ED and the use of TRT (testosterone replacement therapy). These are two areas that are kind of taboo, that people don’t really want to talk about, ask about, and probably just continue to perpetuate old myths that are both untrue and harmful. It’s important to talk about these things, learn why they might be happening, and what can be done to help AND do so in the safest most effective ways possible. Please share this episode with the important men in your life. To learn more and keep up to date, you can follow Dr. Torgerson on IG, check out his website, and if you’re in the Toronto area and interested in visiting him in clinic, visit The Sovereign Male website, or The Big Shot website. The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend. #129: Chase Chewning - A Life Changing Psychedelic Experience, and Living a Life Ever Forward

Chase Chewning (@chase_chewning) is the host of Ever Forward Radio, an entrepreneur, a coach, and a very thoughtful man. He’s an Army veteran who’s had to relearn to walk TWICE, and has embraced fitness and a healthy living as his passion. Chase and I discussed his experiences with psychedelic medicines and how they’ve transformed his life. You may have some initial negative reactions and reservations towards the topic, but I highly encourage you to be open minded and take the lessons for what they are. This all led into a discussion about what it means to live a life “Ever Forward”. Encompassing fitness and health but also your mindset and general outlook on how you approach life. Fitness is the perfect analogy for all of it, and that’s the central theme of this conversation. If you take away even 10% of what I took from this conversation, then it was a success. I’m positive you’ll learn something valuable and/or insightful from this chat. Be sure to follow Chase on IG, check out his podcast, Ever Forward Radio, and visit his website to keep up with everything he’s got going on.The best way to support the podcast is to share the episode with a friend.
