61. Build Boundary Walls : Identify What Matters Most & Say NO to Everything Else
How many times have you said “yes” to something and regretted it? How many times have you put more time / effort / energy into other people rather than yourself? How many times have you felt anxious / overwhelmed trying to balance everything you’re involved with? The key to avoiding all this madness is identifying what matters most to US, build routines so that we stay consistent & getting real good at saying NO! Topics : Being a Top 2% Uber Driver taught me to build boundary walls around my time Every ride meant more $$$ in my pocket, I was in control of when / how much I worked Without boundaries, it’s impossible to make progress in any bucket of our life We’re going to be pulled in a million different directions Tips for Building Boundaries (1) Identify What Matters Most to YOU When we start to break down where we want to spend our time, we can make better decisions about what to do & when We’re cutting up our Cake of Time and making sure every piece is accounted for (2) Schedule Important Routines Now that we’ve identified what matters most to US, we can begin to plot when / where we should do something They help us stay disciplined on a day to day, week to week or month to month basis They help us create the motivation to do “x” because we don’t have ANY energy to debate when to do it (3) Hand Out “NO” Cards Unapologetically Rule of thumb : If something doesn’t completely excite you & it’s NOT an immediate yes… say no The secret to saying no is how you communicate it Saying no creates more space for us to say yes to the things that do matter (4) Reevaluate The Walls When Needed Our priorities / goals change with time just as we do I’m constantly evaluating the walls that I’ve built around myself to see if They’re standing strong If they need some patching up Or if they need to be completely torn down Challenge for the listeners Take 10 minute today to identify what matters the most to YOU Once you have that list, ask yourself if you have these tasks committed on your calendar & if not - start today Questions from the BMC Eric D : Talk about Essentialism Got a topic / question you want me to cover?
