121. Mastering Mindfulness : 4 Steps to Taking Control of Our Mind

I think we’ve all experienced a moment in our life where a thought or an emotion takes over control the way we feel. Whether it’s for better or worse, it becomes a runaway train that we’re a part of and there is no way of getting off. Now of course we’ll ride that train to the end if its a high high and we feel great BUT what if the thought or situation makes us feel sad, unmotivated or any other unwanted emotion? Well, we’re going to be looking for an exit strategy as soon as possible. Today I want to talk about the power of mindfulness and the steps we can take that will allow for us to gain control of our feelings. By being better equipped for dealing with unwanted emotions or thoughts, we can recognize, accept, investigate & become non-attached to whatever arises in our mind. Mindfulness is an incredibly important skill for us to develop & one that we’ll be able to utilize for the rest of our lives. Four Steps To Mastering Mindfulness : (1) Recognize : We must recognize & acknowledge what we’re feeling in this moment. (2) Accept : We must accept whatever is passing through us for what it is & not resist it. (3) Investigate : We must investigate the emotion to understand the root of where it’s coming from. (4) Non-Identification : We must learn the skill of non-identification and not attach ourselves to whatever arises. This too shall pass.   Challenge for the listeners Spend 15 mins in the next 24hrs to think through a recent situation you had difficulty with a thought or an emotion. Role play each of the four steps in your mind : Recognize, Accept, Investigate & Non-Identification. Get good at this process and the next time an unwanted emotion or thought has risen, use the same steps to work through whatever you’re going through.   Questions from the Stay Dialed In Community Evan Cudworth : Mindfulness in groups Steve O’Dell : Discuss things to avoid. 119. Tap Into Your Inner Greatness : 7 Ways to Reach Your Ultimate Potential

Are you tapping into your inner greatness today? How do we know if we’re or if we aren’t? It’s not like we get a noti on our phone saying “INNER GREATNESS UNLOCKED TODAY, WOHOOO!” What are the benefits of us stepping into our greatness? What does it cost for admission? To tap into ones inner greatness, it’s a choice that only we can make. It’s open 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year & never closes up shop. When we strive to become the greatest version of ourselves, we’re able to tap into our ultimate potential & see what we’re really capable of. There will never be an end destination that we finally arrive at that says “WELCOME TO GREATNESS” because it will always be a work in progress. 7 Ways to reaching our inner greatness (1) Self-awareness of who you’re is absolutely crucial. We need to understand our strengths, weaknesses & interests. (2) Spending time in silence better prepares us for the future by reflecting and learning from the past which gets us ready for the future. (3) Always seek knowledge because there will always be more to learn. (4) Creating routines helps us to stay accountable to showing up to the activities that matter most to us. At some point the routine will become a habit and part of our lives. (5) To build the right circle of people around us, we must constantly audit and make sure these people inspire us and motivate us to become a better version of ourself. (6) Take care of your body because it’s our vehicle. We need to fuel, hydrate, push & rest it properly. (7) Create your dream home and utilize every inch of space you’ve got to your advantage. This is our sacred space that we should be happy and excited to be in.   Challenge for the listeners Spend 10 minutes within the next 24hrs and consider which of the 7 areas you need to put more effort into in order to tap into your inner greatness. It does not matter how many, just pick one to start with and continue to audit / work on each of the categories moving forward. 117. Creating Momentum : Start, Stay Consistent & Evaluate the Direction You’re Headed

What does Drake, Jeff Bezos & Oprah Winfrey have in common? They’ve all created momentum in their respective careers. Now this didn’t happen out of thin air but rather over decades of consistently working within their own individuals lanes. Why is momentum important? Because once they were able to get things rolling, they got into their flow & we see where they’re today. All extremely successful & absolutely crushing it! Today I want to talk about the importance of creating momentum, how we can get it started & how we can sustain it over a long period of time. It doesn’t matter what your goals are, this can be applicable to any area of your life. Once the momentum is rolling, it will take you anywhere you direct it it to go.  Momentum definition : The strength or force gained by motion by a series of actions. These are the four steps I use to create & keeping momentum (1) Just Start : In order for us to create any amount of momentum, we must first get started. It’s by far the hardest step but it’s crucial to any new beginning. (2) Stay Consistent & Be Selective With Distractions : As we build consistency over a period of time, we must be very selective with what or who we allow to distract us. Living a balanced lifestyle is healthy but we must make sure it’s balanced and not fully disrupting our momentum. (3) Pick Up Where You Left Off : When the momentum has come to a complete halt and it feels impossible to get things going again, just pick up where you left off. Don’t make up any story in your head about how difficult it will be to get things rolling again and instead get things moving in the forward direction. (4) Evaluate The Direction You’re Headed : As we create and keep the momentum moving, we must evaluate the direction we’re headed constantly. If not, we may end up somewhere we never intended to be.   Challenge For The Listeners Spend 10 minutes within the next 24hrs considering this : If you have been debating starting something new, make a list of the first couple initial steps it will take to start Evaluate what distractions you let pull you away and if there’s anything or anyone specific you do NOT want to be part of your life anymore If you’ve stopped the momentum and haven’t touched the new paint set you bought or haven’t worked out in weeks… well today is the day   Got a topic / question you want me to cover? 115. Win the Day : Create a To-Do List of Tasks & Stay Accountable to Crossing Them off Daily

Have you had days where you felt like you accomplished nothing? Do you stress thinking about the future, where you want to be & the work it’ll take to get there? Are you anxious to get to the finish line aka reach your dreams or goals and neglect enjoying the process of the day to day grind because of it? Today I want to talk about the importance of focusing on winning the day in front of us. When I stopped wasting energy thinking about the future constantly, I was able to enjoy the day to day process and find gratitude in it. By creating a daily to-do list of items to complete, I am able to focus on what I can control today which helps me win my day.   Three principles to winning your day : (1) Creating Your List allows you to be accountable on what you can accomplish in the day ahead. By doing that, we spend less time thinking about the future and instead focus on the present moment. (2) Make adjustments in your list when necessary. Priorities will change on a daily basis and we need to readjust accordingly. (3) Be realistic in expectations for the day ahead and set yourself up for success. There is only so much you can do within 24hrs, don’t create a to-do list that is impossible to accomplish.   Challenge for the listeners Take 10 minutes sometime in the next 24hrs to create your list. Start with a few items and when you’re ready, add to it. See how this changes your focus from the big picture of where you want to go and instead focuses on what’s in front of you today. Give the list a try and hit my DM letting me know how it’s helped you! Questions from The Bearded Man Community (The BMC) Austin Cole : Being okay with your productive hours. Have there been times when you get anxious or overwhelmed because you have something on your mind but are afraid to speak up? Are you hesitant to be your most authentic self because of what society might say? Today I want to talk about the importance of being vulnerable. By sharing how I actually feel, I take off all the weight on my shoulder an am able to clear my mind of whatever thoughts are in my head. Being vulnerable is absolutely crucial for my mental health and overall well-being. “Vulnerability is terrifying. The courage it takes to reveal your heart is one of the most daunting and yet rewarding experiences in life. It will set you free” - The Better Man Project Three Principles For Being Vulnerable (1) Humans deal with every emotion possible. Whatever wanted or unwanted emotions we’re dealing with today, we must remind ourselves that it’s okay and that this too shall pass in time. (2) Finding a medium to express our emotions is incredibly important. There is no right or wrong way to do it, what’s important is that we find a medium that allows us to transfer these emotions out of your mind and body (3) Ignore the negativity that comes your way from being vulnerable.
