117. Creating Momentum : Start, Stay Consistent & Evaluate the Direction You’re Headed
What does Drake, Jeff Bezos & Oprah Winfrey have in common? They’ve all created momentum in their respective careers. Now this didn’t happen out of thin air but rather over decades of consistently working within their own individuals lanes. Why is momentum important? Because once they were able to get things rolling, they got into their flow & we see where they’re today. All extremely successful & absolutely crushing it!
Today I want to talk about the importance of creating momentum, how we can get it started & how we can sustain it over a long period of time. It doesn’t matter what your goals are, this can be applicable to any area of your life. Once the momentum is rolling, it will take you anywhere you direct it it to go.
Momentum definition : The strength or force gained by motion by a series of actions.
These are the four steps I use to create & keeping momentum
- (1) Just Start : In order for us to create any amount of momentum, we must first get started. It’s by far the hardest step but it’s crucial to any new beginning.
- (2) Stay Consistent & Be Selective With Distractions : As we build consistency over a period of time, we must be very selective with what or who we allow to distract us. Living a balanced lifestyle is healthy but we must make sure it’s balanced and not fully disrupting our momentum.
- (3) Pick Up Where You Left Off : When the momentum has come to a complete halt and it feels impossible to get things going again, just pick up where you left off. Don’t make up any story in your head about how difficult it will be to get things rolling again and instead get things moving in the forward direction.
- (4) Evaluate The Direction You’re Headed : As we create and keep the momentum moving, we must evaluate the direction we’re headed constantly. If not, we may end up somewhere we never intended to be.
Challenge For The Listeners
- Spend 10 minutes within the next 24hrs considering this :
-
- If you have been debating starting something new, make a list of the first couple initial steps it will take to start
- Evaluate what distractions you let pull you away and if there’s anything or anyone specific you do NOT want to be part of your life anymore
- If you’ve stopped the momentum and haven’t touched the new paint set you bought or haven’t worked out in weeks… well today is the day
