The Pandemic Skip & Its Impact on Millennial Women

Do you feel like there is a gap between how old you think you are and your actual age? There's research why this is and I am breaking it all down in this episode. This week, I talk about a recent article in the cut entitled "The Pandemic Skip" by Katy Schneider. I share how I personally relates to the article which discusses how young adults in the pandmeic have lost a few years of their life and are coming out of it with this strange sense that they do not feel the age that they are. I discuss trends I have been seeing with my clients, how young women are specifically impacted by this because of our biological clocks and how research shows young women lost more friends in the pandemic compared to other demographics. I also use this article to have a broader discussion about how memories are formed, what the research says about how the pandemic has impacted our memories and why all of us feel like time during the pandemic was really fast but also really slow. Finally, I end the episode by answering listener questions. To book a therapy session, visit visit www.therapyforwomencenter.com. Olivia Rodrigo Therapy: Anger in Women & How to Process It

Obsessed with Olivia's new album too? Same! More than just the music, this week I talk about how this album is a powerful outlet for women to deal with their anger. I discuss how Olivia managed to escape the Disney bad girl reputation and how she is giving herself and as a result, all of us, permission to feel our feelings, including anger, rage, embarrassment, jealousy and more! I talk at length about the song, "All American B*tch" and how it is an overarching theme of the album, what my favorite lines are and how it perfectly captures the double bind that women are placed in. I explore how women's anger is unique, how women (especially women of color) are not given space to feel angry and how we may end up suppressing it and harming ourselves. I also discuss the data of how women are angrier on average these days than men and why that is. Finally, I spend the last ten minutes of the episode answering listening questions about anger, how to deal with it in a healthy way, why you don't need to force yourself to be angry and the predisposition of anger. If you have a question you want answered be sure to CALL the hotline: 813-444-8683To get more Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and all other song breakdowns and bonus episodes, sign up for my patreon-- patreon.com/recoveredish If you are interested in therapy or learning more about my practice, Therapy for Women Center, visit www.therapyforwomencenter.com. The Trap of "I'll Be Happy When..." with Jamie Varon (How to Balance Contentment & Ambition)

I chat with author and novelist Jamie Varon about how we can break free from our obsession with being the "best" and how we can start enjoy living our lives. I have been friends with Jamie for a while now and absolutely loved her book, Radically Content. So when her book went on to be a smash hit and essentially all her dreams came true, I needed to ask, "do you still stand by what you wrote in Radically Content? That dreams and success is great but it's the day to day living that fulfills us?" Her answer is yes,(much to. my disappointment as I hoped her success cured all her problems). While this convo may not be #relatable to everyone, I think it is so important as we can all fall into the trap of believing our everlasting happiness is right around the corner if we can just accomplish this next thing. Spoiler alert- that is not the case. In this conversation, we talk all about why this is, how she has stayed grounded in all the change that have happened in her life, the myth of "relatability" and how this term is often weaponized against women and how we (two content creators on the internet) deal with trolls, people who give us harsh feedback and more! Jamie Varon is a novelist, author, designer, digital course creator, executive producer, and creative consultant living in Calabasas, CA. Her debut novel, Main Character Energy, is out now with HarperCollins’ imprint, Park Row. Jamie is also the author or two nonfiction books, Radically Content and its journal companion. Radically Content is currently in progress to be adapted into a film. Taylor Swift & Our Mental Health: Eras Tour Recap & Song Breakdown

I chat all about Taylor Swift this week! I start by doing a breakdown of my experience and thoughts about the eras tour, going into the lessons from it (how we can embrace our cringe, give up "looking cool", reclaiming girlhood and not waiting to do thinks you love. I then go into thoughts about why I think Taylor Swift's music has such staying power for us, why her lyrics seem to touch so many of us and her unique ability to capture a moment in time in our lives. Around minute 20 I go into a breakdown of one of my favorite songs The Archer, I go line by line breaking down how I think it's a perfect example of anxiety about a new relationship and I tie it into other songs of Taylor's including New Romantics, Peace, You Belong with Me and more. I also discuss themes in this song of resentment, self reflection, insomnia, acting impulsively, self sabotage and more.
