#214: The #1 Predictor of Longevity

Regardless of what we want to accomplish, from growing your business, creating a great company culture, championing a social cause, or affecting your habits, we can’t do it alone. The people around you define your success (whatever that means for you) and they have the potential to change the course of your life.Today on The Dhru Purohit Podcast, Dhru talks to Jon Levy, a behavioral scientist best known for his work in influence, human connection, and decision making. Jon specializes in applying the latest research to transform the ways companies approach marketing, sales, consumer engagement, and culture. His clients range from Fortune 500 brands to startups.  More than a decade ago, Jon founded The Influencers Dinner, a secret dining experience for industry leaders ranging from Nobel laureates, Olympians, celebrities, and executives, to artists, musicians, and even the occasional princess. Guests cook dinner together but can’t discuss their career or give their last name, and once seated to eat, they play a game to reveal who they are. Over time, these dinners developed into a community. With thousands of members, Influencers is the largest community of its type worldwide.  Dhru and Jon discuss the art and science of creating deep and meaningful connections with anyone. They also talk about how we develop influence, gain trust, and build community so that we can impact our communities and achieve what is most important to us.In this episode, we dive into: -The greatest predictor of longevity (2:05) -Why having close friends increases our longevity (9:53) -The impact of loneliness on our health (14:15)-How to create deep and meaningful relationships (21:47) -The Influencers Dinner (34:52) -The influence equation and how to apply it to our lives (49:39) -Post-traumatic growth (1:03:34) -Optimal anxiety (1:05:31) -How to get an invitation to an Influencers event (1:11:04) -The impact of social isolation on our health  (1:12:39)For more on Jon Levy you can follow him on Instagram @JonLevyTLB, on Facebook @JonLevyTLB, on Twitter @JonLevyTLB, and through his website https://www.jonlevytlb.com/. #208: Rethinking God, Sex, and Death in a World That’s Lost Its Mind with Jamie Wheal

If you’re looking for a way to explore the concept of meaning, how it relates to culture, religion, politics, history, sexuality, dissatisfaction, and so much more, this podcast is for you.  We’re currently experiencing a crisis of meaning. People and groups are divided, each convinced their way of thinking and their beliefs are the “right” ones. We have a hard time letting multiple things be true at the same time, when in reality they are but all of our realities are different. We get weighed down by the complexities of information overload and experience grief in the process. Since most of us run from bad feelings or simply don’t know how to address them, we go into denial and look for an escape. We end up with more anxiety, more depression, and poorer relationships.  But this isn’t an unstoppable progression. Today on The Dhru Purohit Podcast, Dhru talks to Jamie Wheal about why it’s so hard to make sense of the world right now and what we can do to help ourselves expand our understanding. They discuss the five key drivers that give us the tools to wake up, grow up, and show up for ourselves. They also talk about how we move from broken to whole, and how we cure isolation with connection. Jamie is the author of the global bestseller and Pulitzer Prize-nominated Stealing Fire: How Silicon Valley, Navy SEALs and Maverick Scientists are Revolutionizing the Way We Live and Work. Jamie is an expert in peak performance and leadership, specializing in neuroanthropology––the intersection of culture, biology, and psychology—and the founder of the Flow Genome Project, an international organization dedicated to the research and training of ultimate human performance.  In this episode, we dive into: -Why we are in a crisis of meaning (3:12)-The current culture wars (34:35) -The apocalypse we find ourselves in (1:03:30) -The three things that help us deal with life better (1:06:20)-How to be inclusive (1:08:59)-Alchemy and personal transformation (1:36:44)-Why sexuality can be a powerful gateway into higher consciousness (1:37:43)-Orgasms as a treatment for depression (2:00:51) -How music connects us (2:19:52)-How to get out of our own way and create greater connection (2:54:30)Also mentioned in this episode:-The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk - https://www.amazon.com/Body-Keeps-Score-Healing-Trauma/dp/0143127748-Love Drugs: The Chemical Future of Relationships by Brian Earp and Julian Savulescu - https://www.amazon.com/Love-Drugs-Chemical-Future-Relationships/dp/0804798192-This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession by Daniel Levitin - https://www.amazon.com/This-Your-Brain-Music-Obsession/dp/0452288525For more on Jamie Wheal you can follow him on Instagram @flowgenome, on Facebook @jamiewhealpage, on Twitter @flowgenome, and through his website https://www.flowgenomeproject.com/. #207: The Dangers of Fluoride on the Brain and IQ with Dr. Mark Burhenne

If we want to continue learning how to optimize health, we have to stay open to new information that might contradict previous research, even if it questions the status quo. Fluoride and dental health are great examples of this process. Fluoride gained support due to an observation one man made many years ago, which has progressed into many cities fluoridating their water and most dentists singing its praises. But over the years the research on fluoride has greatly evolved, to the point that we can now see large differences in how it works topically versus internally, and identify risks that come with consumption. Today’s guest on The Dhru Purohit Podcast spent much of his time as a new dentist and new parent grappling with whether it was a good idea to give fluoride to his kids. Dr. Mark Burhenne is a functional dentist, and the author of the #1 Amazon bestseller The 8-Hour Sleep Paradox. He has appeared in Dr. Hyman's Sleep Masterclass, the oral microbiome docuseries Gateway to Health, NPR, and many more. Dhru and Dr. Burhenne talk about the emerging research that supports connections between fluoride and IQ changes, neurotoxicity, arthritis, osteosarcomas, and changes in metabolism, among other concerns. Dr. Burhenne explains how fluoride works in the body, and why using it topically is very different than consuming it. They also talk about the root cause of cavities—it’s not a deficiency in fluoride, but the sugary and starchy foods making up the Standard American Diet, an altered oral microbiome, and mouth breathing. In this episode, we dive into: -What made Dr. Burhenne first question fluoride (3:24) -Why fluoride is added to our water (8:52) -Conventional dentistry and fluoride use (14:22) -Studies that show why we need to rethink adding fluoride to our water (21:47) -The EPA Federal lawsuit that could limit fluoride in drinking water (24:25) -The effects of fluoride on the brain (31:42) -How we get fluoride in water (35:29) -Why fluoride in toothpaste doesn’t really work (37:59) -How to choose a water filter (50:18) -Dr. Burhenne’s toothpaste recommendations (56:36) -What actually creates cavities and healthy teeth (1:05:02) -What we can learn from modern hunter-gatherers when it comes to dental health (1:11:22) Also mentioned in this episode:-The EPA Federal lawsuit that could limit fluoride in drinking water - https://www.ewg.org/news-insights/news/federal-lawsuit-could-limit-fluoride-drinking-water-Prenatal Fluoride Exposure and Cognitive Outcomes in Children at 4 and 6-12 Years of Age in Mexico - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28937959/-The Association Between Maternal Fluoride Exposure During Pregnancy and IQ Scores in Offspring in Canada - https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/fullarticle/2748634-Fluoride Action Network - http://fluoridealert.org/-ZeroWater Filter - https://zerowater.com/-RiseWell Toothpaste - https://risewell.com/-Boka Oral Care - https://www.boka.com/-The Secret to Better Sleep?
