Episode 102 - Michael Dietrich

Michael "Mountain Mike" Dietrich is a guy who walks his talk. You probably follow his dog Bear-Bear on Instagram already but if you haven't met him yet, he is someone who works hard towards anything that he is passionate about. We talk about how you have no clue where you will be 5 years from where you are today. We talk about the value of travelling to the mountains as well as basic advice for anyone in the fitness industry. We talk about working at a bar and how that can build your capacity for expressing empathy as well as relating to people. We talk about being hippy dippy, doing some self reflection or being introspective is so important. Michael doesn't want to take any day for granted and aspires to lead his life collecting experiences instead of things. A lot of us feel like we need to check boxes or know what is next but sometimes it's best to just put your best foot forward, surround yourself with people who believe you can be naked and afraid or live in your RV or simply people who believe in the best version of you. Trainers burn out, we get wrapped up in our cell phones, we sell ourselves short, we take on challenges that we don't know if we can follow through with. Trainers are human just like anyone else, feeling self conscious, not hearing compliments clearly, forgetting our abilities, needing downtime, feeling worn out and having no energy are all things we go through. It was a great conversation. Episode 101 - Lazina McKenzie

If nothing else, listen to this episode so that you can hear a white personal trainer say that it's important to have brown female representation on the walls of a Lululemon in a city as racially diverse as Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We dove down some rabbits holes today. We used white people, brown people terms a lot. We talked about cultural diversity. We talked about learning to admire what makes everyone in our lives great rather than what makes them different. We talked about her experiences being a born in Canada but brown and hearing a genuine "Welcome to Canada". This is another one of those "could have gone on for hours" episodes. Not only did we talk about what November Project means to Lazina and how she feels like a badass, we also talked about what her best connections have been, or at least some that stood out to her today. We talked about her experience being raised in a brown family around white people and how her parents wanted her to go skiing. We talked about celebrating different holidays, and we talked about travelling. Lazina used to be a personal trainer so we talked about her experience with that and about really pivotal conversations in her life. We talked about what she admires about her husband. That's more than enough reasons to give this one a listen. Episode 100 - Carter Good

Carter Good is someone who is very smart by nature, he's lost close to 150 lbs, he's moved around the country, he's had to follow his intuition and he likes the intricacies of the process of making wine. We talked about what life was like for him 10 years ago, we talked about his self awareness, and we talked about times he's doubted himself. He really strives off of being in control of his time and we discussed how he's benefited from investing more into meaningful friendships and relationships. We talked about saying no more often or blocking off certain days for certain tasks and we talked about how when you think the fitness industry is saturated, it doesn't mean that everyone is being reached. I hope you enjoy this episode and be sure to tag @cartergood and myself, @christianliddle, @thelifestylechase in a screenshot of the episode! For the full episode transcript, go here https://www.invigoratetraining.com/post/the-lifestyle-chase-transcript-episode-100-carter-good-2-13-20 Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

Episode 99 - Torbjørn "Thor" Pedersen

This episode is for anyone who would be interested in the perspective of someone who is in the midst of travelling every country in the world without flying on a plane. He has less than a dozen left before he completes a journey that has taken him over 6 years. Thor has a fiance with whom he's maintained a strong relationship this entire time. He speaks to times where he wasn't sure he was going to get out of a situation alive, and he also speaks to the countries who were extremely welcoming or gracious hosts. Something that stood out to me about Thor is his view of the world that people are people. It's important to understand that there is so much we can gain from networking within our communities and maybe communities beyond where we live. Understanding that although we don't all look the same, there is something at our core which is not all that different. Thor has a perspective you won't get anywhere else, because nobody else has ever done exactly what he is doing. We talked a little bit about how his journey, "Once Upon a Saga" began, we talked about the countless times it would have been easier to just get on a plane and go home, we talked about the countries he's had to stay in for over a hundred days and the countries he'd live in if he didn't settle down in Denmark. When Thor completes his journey, his goal is to write a book about this experience and really expand on his motivational speaking. He's been featured on VICE, BBC, Lonely Planet, National Geographic, Forbes, Al Jazeera, The Guardian, News.com.au, The National and ABC. You can find him by searching Once Upon a Saga. Episode 98 - Jeb Johnston

Jeb Johnston has lived through dark times in his life involving addiction and just the general life of being a musician working amidst the nightlife. He hasn't always been the jacked bald guy you see him as today. He was once a hair stylist for super models that were making appearances on magazine covers amongst many other things. He's one of the only people I've talked to that considers doing the dishes as something to be grateful for, but it makes you stop and think when he says it the way he does. Jeb is someone who continually works on himself by surrounding himself with the likes of Dr. Lisa Lewis, Dr. Ben House, and Dr. Pat Davidson who are also people I admire and respect. We talk about how important it is to listen sometimes, rather than speak. He enjoys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but is also passionate about music. He eats to train but also travels to eat. We cover a lot of topics and there is a lot that you can learn from Jeb, who is a Nutrition Coach for Stronger U and a writer for many well known fitness publications and is also going to be one of the presenters for the upcoming Inland Empire Fitness Conference in Spokane. Episode 97 - Scott McWalter

Scott McWalter is one of the best that Prince George, BC has to offer. He even highlighted others in his community in our episode so if your ears are ringing maybe you should check it out. Part of this episode is almost like a tourism commercial which really shows you that Scott is someone who applies his positive attitude to life and what surrounds him and gets personal and professional results from it.We talk about family and goals and staying motivated through even our roughest days. We talk about Scott's experiences in chasing greatness in his career as well as the impact that participating in and leading spin class has had on him. Fitness is a big part of his life, but his main career right now is in marketing. We talk about technology and how it impacts our ability to tune into the people right in front of us. We talk about long his experiences with Iron Man and why he admires Terry Fox, and his big goal for 2030 which he will work on bit by bit over the course of the next 10 years. It's easy to look back to 2010 and be like "that was just yesterday" but for some reason it's a daunting task to plan to succeed in 2030.I came across Scott McWalter when I was first thinking about starting The Lifestyle Chase. I was talking about it with my friend Blake Fillion. Blake Fillion had a clear understanding of where I wanted to go with the podcast and he told me all about Scott and the kind of person he is. So I started off the podcast with Blake as my first guest, and went from there. Seeking out guests always comes with a great deal of variability. There are so many podcasts to choose from, I have to make it less about who it is and more about the things that we talk about or the conversations we have. With that being said, the journey never really ends. There will always be something to learn, always a way to improve, and always something to be grateful for. Thank you for supporting me in this journey of mine. Episode 96 - Austin Current

Today I had a really reflective conversation with Austin Current. He's a deep thinker just like me and really needs to trust the people that surround him. We talk about being in a good environment and positioning ourselves to be pursuing things that we are good at in a way that we can still seek challenge. We talk not only about fitness but about Austin's high school experience, times of doubt, how he's gotten to know himself better and how he's had to learn how to disassociate from his identity being what he does such as his past as an athlete in team sports and make it more about being associated with his identity in how he does ANYTHING. Austin started in the fitness industry when he made his debut to the physique stage in 2013. In 2014, he earned his IFBB Pro status and shortly after started to take on clients in-person and online. In 2016, Austin graduated with a degree in Exercise Science and earned his NSCA-CSCS certification. Austin currently resides in Colorado with his wife, KaSandra. That last paragraph came straight from his website and I was lucky to get the opportunity to really fill in the gaps in our visit today. Please share this episode on social and you can learn more about Austin by checking out his podcast, Life Beyond Fitness or following him @austincurrent_ . Thank you for supporting The Lifestyle Chase :) Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

Episode 95 - Shawn Adair

Shawn Adair is one of the only personal trainers I know of that trained people out of his apartment building by putting rubber mats and a rack in the living room. He quickly moved on to open up The Bar, based out of Vancouver, BC. He casually talked about jumping a gap at the Grand Canyon like it was just another day whereas I get anxious if I see a cliff's edge on an IMAX movie. Shawn has really set himself apart with a high energy personality, crazy work ethic, passion for continuing education and attention to detail. A lot of leaders in the industry go to him to refine their skills in strict muscle ups and just performance based training. Working out the inefficiencies. Shawn is also FST certified which has benefited him in a huge way with how he works with his clients. I hope you enjoy this episode, be sure to tag us on social media when you listen, give it a nice rating, and check out some of the other episodes. You can see all the episodes ever released at http://thelifestylechase.podbean.com . As more of these episodes get released alongside my Real Talk short segments, you will find that only the most recent 100 episodes show up in iTunes and Spotify. Some alumni guests whose names you may recognize are Jill Coleman, Dean Somerset, Jordan Syatt, Carl Paoli, Jen Kish and countless others both inside and outside of the fitness industry. It's amazing the conversations I've had and I'm grateful for the opportunities. Thanks for supporting my passion project! Episode 94 - Marc Morris

Marc Morris is a nationally ranked powerlifter. He's competed successfully in Men's physique, he's highly educated with a Ph.D. in Human Nutrition, and over 10 years of experience as an online nutrition coach. He's been lifting weights since the age of 16 and has always been hyper focused towards getting to where he wants to be. He's an academic who lifts. There's more to Marc though. We talk about seeing what someone else has, or where someone else is in their life and just wanting it so bad that you essentially replicate it and where that works and where we need to just figure out who WE are and just be that. We talk about how important it is that our biggest passion is in something greater than ourselves, and not just in making ourselves into who we think we should be. Marc talked about losing his dad suddenly due to a heart attack, he talked about his wife's battle with cancer shortly after they got married and how she shared her journey to help others going through the same thing. He talked about becoming a dad, and navigating post secondary wondering what it had in store for him. For being a pretty stoic dude he really opened up in this episode which meant a lot to me. Near the end I made sure to get him to talk about nutrition for a couple minutes to keep this on par for the course as a fitness podcast. But then we brought it back to the things in life that make him feel like he's living it to the fullest. Dr. Marc Morris, is the founder of Polyhealth as well as being a certified strength coach. I hope you enjoy this episode, please share The Lifestyle Chase with a friend. To learn more about what Marc brings to the table by looking him up online simply by googling him, because he's a pretty popular guy, or listening to his episode with my friends at The Fitness Devil Podcast. He's good people. Thanks for listening! Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe
