#239 Should you eat Honey every day?

Honey has been used for millennia as a medicine. And even to this day, people swear by it for treating viral illnesses, espousing the antibacterial and immune enhancing effects. But is there any evidence to support this? And if honey is largely made up of just sugar molecules, how can it have these miraculous effects?Todays episode is a deep dive into what honey is, the chemical make up of honey and a look at some of the studies that have examined gut health, immunity and metabolic health benefits. I’ll reveal whether I think it’s worth taking a spoon of honey every day.On another episode for YouTube I’m going to discuss how to choose the best honey, how to spot fake honey on supermarket shelves, as well as taste test different honeys available in supermarkets and online.🎬 Watch the podcast on YouTube here📱 Download The Doctor’s Kitchen app for free*🌐 View full show notes, including guest details, on our website*The Doctor's Kitchen App gives you access to all of our recipes, with specific suggestions tailored to your health needs and new recipes added every month. Snacksize 9: Preventing Heart Disease

Todays Snacksize Doctor’s Kitchen podcast is all about preventing heart disease using medications vs stents. On the full episode we talk more about the impact of diet, meditation and other lifestyle measures but this snippet on episode 30 where I speak with Consultant Dr Zarrin Shaikh, illustrates the point that it’s not always the more aggressive procedures (like stenting) that yield the best outcomes. Sometimes medications can be just as, if not more effective, and lifestyle medicine should also be part of that care package. I highly recommend you listen to episode 30 for the full discussion, as well as my solo episode 202 on dietary changes to lower your cholesterol.🥗 Join the newsletter and 7 day meal plan📷 Follow on Instagram🐦 Tweet meWe would love to get your feedback on the subject matter of these episodes - please do let me know on our social media pages (Instagram, Facebook & Twitter) what you think, and give us a 5* rating on your podcast player if you enjoyed today’s episode. The chemicals found in cloves are particularly interestingIt is linked to many beneficial properties, especially antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic benefits but human trials are lacking.Whole cloves are generally considered safe but clove oil or supplements need to be used with caution.🎬 Watch the podcast on YouTube here📱 Download The Doctor’s Kitchen app for free🌐 View full show notes, including guest details, on our websiteYou can download The Doctor’s Kitchen app for free to get access to all of our recipes, with specific suggestions tailored to your health needs and new recipes added every month.
