#12 - Suffering from severe digestive issues, SIBO or an autoimmune condition?
Do you struggle with severe digestive issues? Thyroid issues or an autoimmune disease? Is constipation a frequent problem?Let me introduce you to Lisa Vaughan.Lisa is a nearly 50-year-old mum, and she has her own business, so she’s got a lot happening in her life.Lisa has experienced constipation since she was born. She had IBS and even had her appendix taken out as a kid since doctors thought it would help. About six years ago and after a ton of research, she uncovered that she had SIBO, an excessive bacteria in the small intestine. She did numerous diets that she thought would help - from water fasting to 21-day liquid-only diets to paleo. Each time, they would work but then all her symptoms would eventually come back. She couldn’t maintain the restrictive parts of them and it had got to a point that she didn’t know what to eat and was even afraid to eat. This started to change when she joined WAL nearly two years ago…Lisa has been a huge part of our community and she gives back a lot in it, helping other women. But she’s been through a lot. As she changed her eating and exercise routine, she had times where she would feel better and then times where she would go back to how she felt previously and be constipated for days.Eventually, when she decided to start focusing on improving her health, she started realising how much stress was the culprit affecting her healing journey. She says, “Never underestimate stress.” She was doing everything right from the diet and exercise standpoint but it wasn’t until she started practising stress reduction strategies and meditating, and truly tuning in to her body and listening to how food makes her feel that things truly began to improve. Today, Lisa:➡️ Experiences regular bowel movement.➡️ Has less stress.➡️ Has more energy.➡️ Knows what food works for her.➡️ Has decreased her body measurements.Lisa shares what she eats, what supplements she takes, the mindset shifts she's needed to have and her advice for any woman who suffers from digestive issues, SIBO or an autoimmune disease. #11 - Kids Food with Emma Sgourakis - The Nutrition Coach
Do you have kids? Are you unsure on what you should feed them? 🧐I reckon about 90% of the women in our program have one or more kids, so I get questions all the time where women are asking ‘What should I be feeding my kids? What should I put in their lunchboxes?’ In this podcast episode, I talk to the wonderful Emma Sgourakis, The Nutrition Coach, close friend and co-founder of Saturee about what foods to feed your kids and what kind of foods you should be putting in their lunchboxes. 💛Emma opens up about how she’s managed food with her kids and how it’s constantly changing with them. She says she noticed with her kids how they gravitated toward certain foods, like fruits and even liver until recently.Emma also doesn’t recommend exposing your children, who have immature and developing digestive tracts, to high cellulose foods. This could damage their digestive tracts setting them up for health issues or food intolerances as adults. Instead, she sticks to cheeses, milk, soft fruits, custards, broth, orange juice, chocolate milk, sourdough sandwiches, and other easily digestible foods for her kids. The major takeaway? It’s about not trying to be perfect. The more you force it, the more they don’t want it. It’s all about trying to get the food in and make it as nutritious as you can - even if this might not necessarily make its way into their lunchboxes. You need to look at what they are eating throughout the day to ensure they are getting the most out of their food.Happy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield. #9 - Healing your metabolism is the key to weight loss with Jess Ash Wellness
Most women don’t actually know why sugar is “bad.” Most of us take the fitness industry’s word for it amongst other things. In this podcast episode, I caught up with the gorgeous and knowledgeable Jessica, a Hormone and PCOS Nutritionist who is well-known on Instagram as @jessicaashwellness. We discussed the misconceptions around sugar and why weight gain can be a necessary part of healing your metabolism and fixing your hormones.I’ve followed Jessica for a while and she has a similar background to many women in our program (and me). She’s done all the fad diets from Intermittent Fasting, Low Carb, to Paleo and Keto. While she noticed some improvements in her clients and herself when on these low carb diets, she also noticed in some ways she and her clients weren’t feeling any better, like losing hair, adrenal issues, and not sleeping. Then she came across Danny Roddy and found Ray Peat’s work. From there, Jessica began implementing everything from eating dairy, more sugar, and generally eating more. She then started teaching her clients about what she’d learned.I loved chatting with her and digging into how a lot of women wreck their metabolism (including both of us) and how getting healthy and fixing underlying imbalances must be done first before weight loss will happen. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did ❤️Happy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield. #8 - How Sian & Anna lost 40kgs between them and beat their addictions with pro-metabolic food & strength training
Are you numbing your feelings with alcohol? Life happens... so you smash 10 beers or a couple of bottles of wine. You’ve tried getting healthy, but the restricted diets and cardio makes life that much more stressful. You tell yourself that you will do better later but you need the alcohol to cope right now.Sound familiar? In our most recent podcast episode, I talk with Anna and Sian about their past alcohol addiction and how they overcame it. They’ve not only transformed their bodies and health but also their lives. They are INCREDIBLE women who have faced their demons and come out the other side. Not only that, but they are an inspiration to other women in our program - me included. They’ve managed to free themselves from food and alcohol, and are now living their BEST lives. From the lowest moments to now, Anna and Sian discuss when and how their turning points happened, and how they have also had their fair-share of failure and roadblocks. If you’re going to take any advice, take it from two women who have made it through the biggest hurdles. They have failed, persevered, and shown up even when it got hard. I think it’s bloody incredible what they have achieved. Their main advice and takeaway points➡️ Stick with it and quit looking for a finish line.➡️ Don’t look for perfection - it doesn’t exist. Instead, focus on progress.➡️ Let go of everything else you’ve been taught about nutrition or exercise.➡️ Focus on thriving instead of surviving.Happy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield. #7 - All things Corona Virus with Kate Deering
How can you protect yourself? How can a strong metabolism contribute to better immunity? In this episode with Kate Deering author of How to heal your metabolism we dive into all things coronavirus. Kate and I discuss what you can be doing during these times of stress to not only curb your stress, but also protect your health and improve your immunity. The truth: You have a choice HOW you react to the current situation. In the past, when times were stressful, I used to hit the piss. The old me would have had a few drinks every night to take the edge off, and I would go and eat shit food to cope. Now, I focus on what I CAN do. I’m much more proactive - and I don’t deal with life’s stressors by downing a bottle anymore and trying to escape. Instead, I continue to do my meal plans. I continue to train. I go out and get my sun each day. It’s about controlling your controllables. These small things you do each day can give you that certainty back when everything else is uncertain. And remember to KEEP IT SIMPLE. I know a lot of you have little ones at home or are still working amidst everything. Don’t overcomplicate it. Stay well-fueled by prepping some boiled eggs, having cheese or fruit for snack, or having juice ready to grab when you need it. These little things can make a HUGE difference in your life. With so much we don’t know right now, the best thing you can do is remember to take care of yourself and your health.Happy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield. #6 - How can you stay healthy during coronavirus with Keith Littlewood
Before I started eating and training the way I eat and train now, I would get sick ALL the time. I’d catch every cold. I even had tonsillitis at one point. In the last two years... I’ve been sick twice - and once was food poisoning. In our recent podcast, I caught up with Tommo Littlewood. Tommo has been in the health and fitness industry for over 20 years. He has a masters in endocrinology. He also follows Dr Ray Peat’s work, and helps individuals solve their metabolic and hormonal issues so that they can live their best lives. In this episode, we talk about all things you need to know to keep your body robust and healthy during these stressful and uncertain times, including what foods you need to be eating. We also answer some commonly asked client questions, such as dealing with stress and thyroid issues, and separating fact from fiction when it comes to virus prevention. With lockdowns happening worldwide, it’s about doing the best you can. Some foods might not be available. You may need to get creative with your workouts. And you may need to practice social distancing while getting your daily 15 minutes of sun (whether that be on your private balcony or deck, or keeping your distance when walking).Do what you can. Find a good balance (flogging yourself by working out 6 days a week isn’t it. This will be detrimental to your health and suppress your immune system). Take care of your gut and eat pro-metabolic foods - like oysters, liver, and carrot salad.Do all the basic things, and try and stay as healthy as you can. #4 - Ask Kate Deering - How to enjoy food over XMAS and still reach your body and health goals
So it’s December…One of the biggest party months of the year with Christmas parties, gatherings, alcohol and sh*tty food. The temptation and peer pressure to drink and eat copious amounts of food is high, you don’t want to miss out on a “good time”.You stress about the calories so you restrict throughout the day so you can binge on alcohol and then binge on food to curb your cravings later.Sounds like a merry-go-round of f*ckery to me! One that I used to be on also.I remember up until 4 years ago, when this time of year came around, I would restrict my calories leading into the holidays because I knew that I was approaching a 2-week bender of binge drinking, binge eating and feeling like sh*t. My mentality back then was “So I can have fun, I need to restrict”. Not to mention I was completely unhappy in myself so I drank to drown my sorrows away.January 1st hit, the “New Year, New Me” set in and I thought all of that binging would be fine because I would start fresh the next year…While this was happening, my metabolism was f*cked, I wasn’t sleeping well, I was moody and my digestion was sh*t…Rather than enjoying the ‘most wonderful time of the year’, I spent the majority of it drunk and hungover.I now approach this time of year no different to any other day of the year...I do like to have the odd drink of a really nice champagne or a cocktail and I enjoy filling up my plate on Christmas day, but I do it because when I shifted my focus to getting better and healing, the decisions became easier to either not drink again or have one or two...not bloody 20....So should I drink? Well it really depends on your body and health goals and why you’re drinking? I used to drink to drink to numb my problems and pain. If I was sad or stressed I drank to cope. If you’re goal is to lose 20kgs, have serious hormonal or metabolic issues then maybe you need to really ask yourself does drinking align with my goals? In this episode, we discuss how we attack Christmas and how you can break the cycle of restricting then binge eating this year.We dive in to How alcohol affects our blood sugar levels and hormonesThe causes of binge eating at this time of yearWhat we used to do in the past, why it didn’t work for us and what we do nowThe advice we give to our clients when this ‘silly’ season arrivesNOW my body is now a well-oiled machine because I eat metabolically optimising food. Food that makes me feel bloody good such as liver, oysters, carrot salad, OJ, milk, sugar, fruit, potatoes, butter and the list goes on.I now feel like I can enjoy food, rather than feeling like I need to binge on it and binge drink because in the past I only got to eat yummy food every now and then...the rest of the time I was restricting myself, killing myself doing cardio and ruining my body.So with all of that being said, stop restricting, this leads to feeling unhappy and anxious at this time of year. ENJOY yourself, eat good food, when you restrict it leads to binge eating...it isn’t worth it and you only feel like crap then next day which just begins the cycle all over again.Happy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield. #3 - Why eating more is the key to restoring your metabolism with Kate Deering
In this episode, I chat with Kate Deering about food and how women actually need to eat more to heal and lose body fat.Do you struggle to keep your calories down to 1000-1500 calories a day? You're running yourself into the ground (literally). You feel beaten down. Exhausted... And you're stressed out not knowing what or who to believe. Most fitness gurus try to sell you on the next new restrictive diet...But you just can’t do it anymore.| get it. I've been there. You feel like you're going around in circles. Thoughts about food control your life. It’s always about what you're going to eat or not eat next.Recently... I did a photo shoot. We needed to get more professional photos for our ads and marketing. No more bathroom selfies. And | had been eating about 2500-3000 calories a day (which I’m sure sounds shocking to most). I had put on muscle… and also a bit of fat.In the past, I would've gotten bent out of shape and done all the cardio. I would’ve dragged myself through the day resisting temptation at every turn - only to possibly binge on all the crap food at night. But I've learned so much since then.Instead, I simply adjusted my calories a bit (nothing extreme - I need about 2500 calories per day to maintain my body, so I simply set my calories at 2200). My body responded so quickly. I got leaner. And the photos turned out so great. I was proud.Because the truth is... eating next-to-nothing doesn’t make you happy. It doesn’t make you healthy. And it won't get you to where you want to be.If anything, it will wreck your metabolism even more. You'll be digging yourself a hole that’s going to be a fight to get back out of.In this podcast with Kate Deering, we talk about why eating more food creates a happier and healthier you, as well as how it helps you reach your goals. You NEED to change your mindset around food.In our program, women have even seen their goitre and thyroid issues completely disappear. A woman who has Hashimoto's Disease has seen big improvements. Another woman saw her rheumatoid arthritis go into remission. All these women do the same thing: They EAT REAL FOOD and about 2000-24000 calories a day.Food is the beginning. What's the life you want?Happy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield.
