Nodes of Design#42: Speculative Design by Phil Balagtas

Phil Balagtas is a design leader with over two decades of experience in design presently working as Experience Design Director at McKinsey Design and also the founder of The Design Futures Initiative, which is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that produces events and workshops to evangelize the various approaches which involve using Design to speculate about alternate futures. Phil has a wonderful experience working in various devices and platforms within non-profit, retail, advertising, and enterprise software organizations. In this episode,  Phil had shared great insights on speculative design and how to use speculative design as a vehicle or method to think about alternative futures, and why designers should speculate. We also discussed how speculative design could integrate with Design Thinking to form future stories or fiction. Nodes of Design#41: Creative Illustration by Camila Nogueira

Camila Nogueira is a Freelance illustrator and graphic designer from Proto. She studied Communication Design at Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto. She worked as a freelancer developing several illustrations and graphic design projects -especially known for her cityscapes. She also made album covers for famous music bands like Dxydream & Jalowo.  Camila describes herself as "Using pastel tones and playing with delicate light, shadow, and elegant lines, who seek graceful solutions at a multidisciplinary level."  In this episode, Camila shares her insights on creative illustration and how to approach a unique storytelling perspective using your illustrations; along with these, she also shared her process of showing the heritage of towns and places and how she captures that in a unique perspective, In the latter part we discussed on building a unique style as an artist and mature your style with different ways of practice.  Takeaways: Storytelling via illustrations. Nodes of Design#38: Understanding the Past by Jonathan Even-Zohar

Jonathan Even-Zohar is a trained historian with a broad view of history and heritage education and how civil society and political actors abuse the past for promoting both democratic and non-democratic values.  He was also the former Executive Director of EUROCLIO – European Association of History Educators, where he has been able to work with thousands of history educators across the continent and beyond to initiate, lead and deliver high-quality collaboration projects, funded by the European Union, as well as through private foundations. He is also a keynote speaker at various occasions like TedX and many more.  In this episode of Nodes of Design, Jonathan shared great insights into the role of emotions and empathy in understanding the past and how designers from the present generation can take inspiration from the past and build a great present and future. Yomar Augusto is a Hybrid Creative and Director of Tooya; Yomar has more than 15 years of experience working in Brazil, Europe & the United States and with Masters in Type Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, The Netherlands. Yomar had worked with global brands like Nike, Coca-Cola, Google, C+P, TBWA, Ogilvy, and many more. Yomar also taught Typography for Advertising at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and  Bauhaus University in Germany. Nodes of Design#33: Designing for Omnichannel Experiences by Pradeep Nayar

He was currently VP of Global Digital Product & Design at Hyatt Hotels Corporations. Previously, he worked for companies like InVision, Allstate, DePaul University, Grainger,  Tribune Company, Charter Global, and Allied Solutions Group. Pradeep describes himself as "My passion for the people I lead and the customers I serve, by understanding human needs, envisioning solutions, and driving the use of technology to make lives easier, drive me forward." In this episode, Pradeep shares his insights on Designing for Omnichannel Experiences - helping us understand an omnichannel experience design and the need to design for omnichannel experiences. He also discussed the process/approach one must follow while designing for Omnichannel Experiences to keep in mind the context of seamlessness and even helped us understand how we differentiate Omnichannel from multi-channel experiences.
