Nodes of Design#52: Designing for Computer Vision by Florian van Schreven

Florian van Schreven is the co-founder and COO of Uizard Technologies, a startup developing AI-powered tools to revolutionize the way people build software. He has previously spoken in conferences such as UX Copenhagen, Confront Sweden, and Web Summit Portugal. Uizard, the company he co-founded, has been recognized globally and featured in international media such as WIRED, Forbes, The Huffington Post, and The Next Web. In this episode, Florian had shared great insights on computer vision and how designers can use the power of the computer vision with ML and deep learning in designing beautiful experiences, and we spoke on how to ensure a consistent experience while planning for computer vision and how did they craft Uizard product towards accessibility. Nodes of Design#51: Words as Design Tools by Janel Torkington

Janel Torkington is a professional content strategist, two-time content team manager, digital marketing dabbler, and occasional poet/ukulele-plucker. She is presently working at Facebook as a content designer. She specializes in mobile ad platforms, the ad creative experience, designing and building ecosystems of tools to help advertisers create ads that look and perform great everywhere they show up. In this episode, Janel had shared great insights on using words as design tools. Nodes of Design#50: New Media Art by Aleksandra Artamonovskaja

Aleksandra is a Digital Strategist for the Art World. She is the Co-founder of Electric Artefacts, an online venue for new media art. The platform serves as an exhibition space, destination for learning and consultancy on new media art. She is also the Director of Partnerships at.ART, the digital address for the arts community. She holds a Master’s degree in Art Business from Sotheby's Institute of Art and has experience working across galleries, auction houses and art fairs. By combining her art business knowledge with prior work in consulting and software sales, she specializes in introducing new applications to the art industry.  In this episode, Aleksandra has shared her wonderful insights on New Media Art and explained how this art movement had started along with important characteristics of new media art that separate it from old media. We then discussed how technology's rapid evolution shapes this Industry and the best lens used to test and maintain New Media Art. Nodes of Design#49: Design Education by Derek Mei

Derek Mei is currently lead design at 3Play Media in Boston and is also a part-time graduate student pursuing my Master's in Human Factors in Information Design at Bentley University. He runs an agency called Umeita Design in his spare time, which specializes in user experience consulting in my spare time.  He is also extremely passionate about bridging the gap between design boot camps and helping designers land their first UI/UX job, which he attempts to address through this side project Handoff.  In this episode, Derek had shared great insights on Design Education and shared his leanings of attending a Bootcamp and a design school. He compares the contact between them in terms of cost, timing and opportunities. Nodes of Design#48: Evocative design by Christopher Riggs

Christopher Riggs is a Creative Director with deep experience in leading creative teams, with an experience of over twelve years in crafting environments, strategies, narratives, learning tools, digital interactions, campaigns, and brand expressions for some world’s most iconic brands, which include Starbucks, Hyatt, Jawbone, eBay, Facebook, Google, Activision/Blizzard, Kaiser Permanente, Ancestry.com, and Nike. He is currently working as Creative Director as a part of the Collaboration Technology Group at Cisco to innovate on the future of work. Other notable experience includes work with Celery Design Collaborative, Michael Osborne Design, IDEO, and teaching positions with the Academy of Art University and California College of the Arts. In this episode, Chris had shared great insights on Evocative design. We discussed the evocative design and how to incite emotions to users, and a few ways to measure the product's success rate or service's emotions. Riya Thosar is a passionate product design leader with experience building, growing and nurturing exceptional multi-disciplinary design teams. With over 20 years of global industry experience, she designed consumer and enterprise products for a wide range of industries and global audiences. Currently, she is the Director of Product Design at SAP and previously worked at LinkedIn, Netapp, Cognizant and Human factors international, where she had directed many large-scale enterprise product design programs. She had delivered award-winning products and services that help businesses transform the way they work.  She is currently working as Head of Design, Commercial Bank at JPMorgan Chase & Co and Co-Instructor of the Customer Engagement Design at Stanford University.   She is a proven leader in building, coaching and inspiring high-performance design teams, leveraging design-thinking, customer empathy, and co-innovation. She is an inventor on over 20 patents, and also Janaki was named as Women of Influence by the Silicon Valley Business Journal in 2016.   She is an active writer and speaker on Innovation and design. She is the co-author of Gamification at Work–Designing Engaging Business Software. She was a speaker on various occasions like TEDx, IxDA and many more. She has guest-lectured at Stanford d.school, Carnegie Mellon University and San Jose State University.  In this episode, Janaki had shared wonderful insights on Crafting a culture of innovation and how to bootstrap and foster those cultures as a design leader.
