Nodes of Design#62: User Research in Games by Steve Bromley
Steve Bromley is an experienced user researcher and author of two famous books - Building User Research Teams' and ‘How to be a games user researcher. He started the first user research team for UK's Parliament and for Reach, the UK’s largest publisher. Before this, he was a lead user researcher for the PlayStation VR headset and many of PlayStation’s titles, including Horizon: Zero Dawn, No Man's Sky & SingStar.
In this episode, Steve had shared great insights on User Research in Games; we discussed how user research in games happens, how different it is from the traditional UX research process, and how to synthesise research and convert them into artefacts that are understood across the teams. We then discussed how to apply usability heuristics to video games to make sure they are fun to play with and different ways to measure the success/failure metrics in gaming research?

Nodes of Design#61: Customer Experience for Healthcare by Eric L Hu
Eric L Hu is a strategy director at AKQA, passionate about customer experience and product design in healthcare, mobility, and omnichannel retail. He has led various lives; from performing artist to product manager, commercial photographer to consultant, Eric has worked hard to enable serendipity through the power of surprise — or more simply put — unifying insights across categories where others may see disjointed ideas. Today, he is focused on making brands iconic by becoming irreplaceable and indispensable to the consumer.
In this episode, Eric shared great insights on customer experience and why customer experience matters for healthcare systems. We then spoke on how seamless and hyper-personalisation works in healthcare by leveraging the data and improving the systems. We discussed how to craft consumer experiences for healthcare considering accessibility and inclusive point of view and the various ways to measure the success/failure metrics of a consumer experience.

Nodes of Design#60: Typography by Joe Stitzlein
Joe Stitzlein is a Co-Founder, Executive Creative Director and Type Designer at Stitzlein Studio. He worked with Steve Jobs to define Apple’s photography and packaging standards, and with Michelle Obama to launch her Let’s Move program for healthy schools. I designed iconic identities for Netflix, Nike Flyknit, dwell magazine and Mac OS X and built a global design studio at Google. He had designed typefaces in every major writing system globally and created campaigns that made Nike Free the world’s best selling shoe.
Before starting Stitzlein Studio, Joe worked as Executive Creative Director for the Google Brand Studio and Senior Global Creative Director at Nike; his work has been featured in Adweek, the AIGA annual, the Annual of the Type Director’s Club, Atlantic Cities, the Annual of the AIA, D&AD, fastcodesign.com and at Cannes, amongst others.
In this episode, Joe had shared great insights on typography and spoke on what is the difference between a typeface and a font and how to choose a perfect typeface and font pair from millions of available choices. In the latter part, we discussed how we craft typography for accessibility and inclusiveness and ended the show by Joe recommending some tips to young designers on how to start their journey into typeface design and build attractive portfolios.

Nodes of Design#58: Doodling by Tejo Guna
Tejo Guna, an artist by profession who is a wall muralist and professional doodler, conducts various workshops across India to help bring people's creativity. He also doodled at various live events like the Under 25 Summit, TEDxMahindra École Centrale, Sunday Soul Sante, and a Microsoft product camp event. Tejo describes his style as a blend of sketching and doodling, and he loves to use pens and markers.
In this episode, Tejo shares great insights on Doodling and helps us understand what is doodling and what is the process of creating such wonderful pieces of art. We then discussed how to come up with Ideas to doodle and find inspiration from our surroundings. In the latter part, we discussed how to communicate a story or a narrative using doodling as a medium.

Brittney Mills, Ph.D is a UX researcher currently working at Twitter as Senior Research Manager and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University in the City of New York. Previously, Brittney worked with companies like Dropbox, MTV, Discovery Inc, Viacom, Insight Strategy Group, and Play Science.

Nodes of Design#56: Transportation Design by Sydney Hardy
Sydney Hardy is an Automotive Designer presently working at Audi, and previously he had worked with General Motors, Porche, Peugeot and Akka technologies. He has also been awarded BMW Young Designer Challenge and Interior Motives Design Awards.
In this episode, Sydney had shared great insights on transportation design and ha shared his journey working across different brands and suggested top skills that helped him differentiate from other transportation designers out there. Shiva Jaini is a multi-faceted product designer with over 10 years of professional/research experience and 6 years of academic experience in product, design and HCI. Presently he is working at Google as Sr. Staff Design Manager and previously worked at YouTube and Yahoo. He has also been a keynote speaker on various occasions and also co-inventor of over thirteen patents.
In this episode, Shiva had shared great insights on what is conversational experiences and how different is it from other backgrounds of interaction. We also discussed the process/approach for designing for conversational Experiences? And how to integrate the factor of seamless experiences across multi-channels. In the latter part, we discussed developing a character for these scenarios that feel like a human while interacting with it the device and limitation to keep in mind while designing for conversational design.
