Ep. 15- A Male's Perspective on Health with Chris and Eric Martinez
Chris and Eric Martinez host of the Dynamic Life Podcast and Online Fitness Business coaches. I met these two years ago at a branding workshop and have kept in touch ever since. These two are super motivated and have spent years helping other people with their fitness goals and now their business goals. In this episode we talk about how to overcome a family tragedy after losing their father at a young age and removing yourself from toxic situations that might be holding you down. Chis and Eric both competed in bodybuilding and talk about how it created food disordered eating and hormonal issues. It is fascinating to talk to men about the same type issues that women deal with. We dive into mindset, coaching, education, not giving up when things get tough and so much more. Thank you for listening in. Ep. 14- Overcoming Food Guilt
Hi all, in this episode I chat about food guilt and how to overcome! Remember that Sex and the City episode where Miranda binged on a cookie cake, she even took the cake out of the trash to eat it after throwing it away. She talks to her gals about the guilt and shame she felt around eating the cookie. We have all experienced food guilt at some point in our lives. You might even be experiencing it now after the Mothers day weekend. Food guilt keeps us from really enjoying food and looking at food as fuel. It is super important for us to learn how to manage our attitude toward food because it can work against our weight loss efforts. I also provide 5 actionable tools to start thinking about as you listen to this episode: 1. Commit to enjoying food- once you decide to eat the food ( cupcake, cookie, pizza) start focusing on the positive and give full attention to being mindful when eating that food 2. Don't food shame yourself - words have weight- avoid saying " this cookie will go straight to my thighs". Take the cupcake or leave it but take the judgment out of it. 3. Rethink your relationship with your food- Are you being too restrictive? Is food taking over your life? Do you punish yourself after eating a "bad" meal ? If yes, start to rethink and reevaluate your relationship with your food. 4. Intuitive eating- being mindful and honoring your hunger . 5. Distract yourself with something other than food- a hobby, passion project, take a walk, journal. Ep. 13- Why Putting A Label On Your Food Can Be Dangerous
In this episode I talk about labeling your food and why it can set you up to fail. I recently saw a post Chalene Johnson, fitness legend, posted on her Instagram on food labels. There were 2 plates of the same exact food and one was labeled "paleo" and the other plate with the same food was labeled "and also food". I thought that it was pretty powerful because when we start to label what we are doing we instantly think of the foods we CAN'T have. What happens when we tell ourselves we can't have something ? Well, we want it even more, or in my case I definitely did. Sometimes I look back and cant believe I recommended certain things or use to tell people to stop eating carbs at dinner, or fruit will keep your body from being lean etc. But when we know better we do better and sometimes we have to just go through those times, experience it and grow from it. I feel like a lot of my listeners are to that point where they just want to live this food freedom life and not let it consume you but also have body goals, which is great. SOME ACTIONABLE STEPS THAT I WANT YOU TO DO FOR THE REST OF MAY Write down a list of foods that you absolutely love and feel like you would have a hard time eliminating . (forget the food rules) -- and these are foods that should make you feel good so no intolerances, allergies etc , foods that you eat and have heartburn immediately or have to run to the bathroom right away, stay away from. For me : Eggs, avocado, rice, strawberries, banana, peanut butter, popcorn, dark chocolate , chicken, bagged salad, couple bites of mac and cheese , shakes ( 85% of the time) Listen to your body - are you hungry first thing in the morning or not . I drink water , drink some adaptogens and a cleanse type drink ( I don't drink for weight loss - i love the botanical blend and it nourishes the digestive system - but that has become my habit). Drink some water. When you eat your meals- sit in a quiet space , no tv , phone etc and eat your food being mindul of how you feel. You do not need to feel stuffed post eating. Eat to feel satisfied . These are the things I did when I stopped labeling everything and just stuck to the things I enjoyed. You can too:) Hope you enjoyed this episode and thank you so much for listening! Make sure to subscribe and leave a review if you enjoyed this episode. Have an idea for an episode ? Ep. 7- Beating Binge Eating with Brittany Brown
So excited for you all to listen to this episode of Coach, Speaker, Creator of the Beating Binge Eating BluePrint and Food Freedom Forever Mastermind Movement, Brittany Brown. This is a super vulnerable episode where Brittany talks about her past battle with binge eating and how she now helps others conquer and thrive. She reveals her insight and knowledge about binge eating and the psychology behind it including the brain science ( neuroplasticity) and deeper healing work. She explains that when we "diet", we are restricting food, so naturally our body's physiologically wants more food, so when we have a poor relationship with our body this can then lead to binge eating and extreme behaviors. Brittany digs into the psychology and habits of self sabotage and asks the question, "Why do we feel like we have ruined our day when we stray from our food plan or take a bite of a "forbidden" food"? She dissects self sabotage and how we can overcome those habits. She gives tactical action steps toward a fulfilling live where food no control our day or quality of life and when we live in a "food abundance" vs a "food scarcity" mentality our brains will shift out of the deprived state and start to make decisions based on what we need instead of an "out of control" mentality. Ep. 6- My Wake Up Call
Thank you so much for tuning in to another episode! In this episode I talk about my wake up call, my "ah ha" moment that changed my life. Shifting your perspective is not easy and it is not something that will happen overnight. I dig deep into the moments that gave me a wakeup call and reminded me that my life is so much more than my body or the food that was consuming me. I give examples as to what you all can do to shift your perspective and mindset. 1. Do not attach your happiness to something tangible or material 2. Gratitude 3. Focus on a passion project, side hustle or hobby that allows you to pull the focus from your body and into that thing you are working on. 4. Focus on strength in the gym vs the scale 5. Support system Hope you enjoyed this episode. It was something I really felt I needed to talk about.
