Ep. 5 - How I Healed My Thyroid
In this episode I go through what I did to heal my thyroid. I mention that you must always consult with your doctor first before doing any of the suggestion recommendations. I also was not diagnosed with Hashimoto's or thyroid disease. I was diagnosed with secondary hypothyroidism brought on by stress and extreme lifestyle. The Thyroid, that pesky little gland that can affect so much! Who knew that the tiny butterfly shaped gland that sits in your neck can affect and regulate the body's metabolic rate as well as heart and digestive function, muscle control, brain development, energy level and mood. The thyroid gland can become overactive (hyperthyroidism) or underactive (hypothy- roidism). This may, rarely, occur from birth, or develop later on in life. And for me, it was secondary hypothyroidism, which was caused by extreme lifestyle and stress. (Who knew stress could affect thyroid). Hypothyroidism is the term given when low levels of thyroid hormones are produced by the thyroid gland. It may result from autoimmune diseases (when the person's immune system starts to attack the body's own organs), poor iodine intake or be brought on by use of certain drugs. Some bullet points over the topics I went over on my road to healing. 1. Started eating more thyroid stimulating foods - including Brazil nuts ( has selenium) :It's the all essential "on" switch to optimal thyroid function — converting T4 hormone into active T3. The essential mineral also protects the gland from inflammatory byproducts of thyroid hormone production. - Salmon-most cases of underactive thyroid are due to inflammation of the gland, and salmon boasts significant anti inflammatory properties. - Eggs - The yolk contains many metabolism stoking nutrients, including fat soluble vitamins, essential fatty acids and — most significantly — choline, a powerful compound that attacks the mechanism that triggers your body to store fat around your liver. - Avocado-Avocado contains metabolism enhancing mono unsaturated fat and packed with fiber and freeradical killing antioxidants 2. Stopped working out strenuously - had to let me body rest and recover from the years of overtraining 3. Get MORE sleep. - so important to recover 4. Intermittent fasting 5. Repair at the cellular level - took adaptogens for chronic stress - Ashwagandha - Rhodiola - Maca - Ginseng -Eleuthero I also mention some unconventional things I did to help with my thyroid that includes: 1. Reiki - energy healing 2. Acupuncture 3. IV treatments - Love Glutathione and it helps to repair the liver If interested in what I currently take you can email me at : felicia@dietdropoutpodcast.com Hope you enjoyed this episode!

My Thoughts On Intuitive Eating
On this episode I talk about how I currently eat on the daily and that is intuitively. Intuitive eating can be tough to follow when you do not entirely understand what this means. I explain what Intuitive eating means to me and how I practice it daily. Intuitive eating is learning to trust your own hunger cues and an approach developed to help people heal from the side effects of chronic dieting. Making food decisions without experiencing guilt or shame and honors hunger and respects fullness. I believe that there are certain principles that really define Intuitive eating: 1. Mindfulness on what it feels to be "satisfied" and not "stuffed" 2. Honoring your feelings without using food 3. Respecting your body 4. Honoring your hunger 5. Making peace with food This is just the beginning of touching on this topic of Intuitively eating. I hope you enjoy this episode!
