Episode 216: Dr. Tommy Wood - Optimizing health and longevity

This episodes guest is Dr. Tommy Wood from Nourish Balance Thrive and Physicians for Ancestral Health. Tommy Wood is a Senior Fellow in the Pediatrics Department at the University of Washington, and Chief Scientific Officer of Nourish Balance Thrive, an online-based company using advanced biochemical testing to optimize performance in athletes. Tommy was born in the US to Icelandic and British parents (which means he has three passports in two different names). He was predominantly raised in the UK, but also spent periods of time at school in Iceland, Germany, and France. Tommy received a bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences and Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge before studying medicine at the University of Oxford. He worked as a junior doctor in central London for two years after medical school, and then moved to Norway to complete a PhD in physiology and neuroscience at the University of Oslo. Tommy is currently President-elect of Physicians for Ancestral Health, he is a director of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine and the Icelandic Health Symposium, and is on the scientific advisory board of Hintsa Performance. Tommy has also coached and competed in multiple sports including rowing, CrossFit, powerlifting, and ultra-endurance racing. Alongside his career in medicine and research, Tommy has published and spoken on multiple topics surrounding functional and ancestral approaches to health, including examining the root causes of multiple sclerosis and insulin resistance. Episode 215: Chris Korfist, Cal Dietz, and JL Holdsworth - Reflexive Performance Reset (RPR)

This episodes guests are Chris Korfist, J.L. Holdsworth, and Cal Dietz. Unlike most facilities who are staffed by young coaches who rely on their recent playing career and “cool” factor, Slow Guy Speed School is staffed by Chris Korfist, a “sprint guru” with an international following. With over 55 all-state sprinters and countless other high school all-state athletes, and over 20 years experience, he knows what is appropriate for the athlete in the room and not so concerned about what the pros are doing or someone else journey to where they got. JL Holdsworth is a world champion powerlifter, published author and former University of Kentucky strength and conditioning coach. With over 30,000 hours of practical experience and competition best lifts of a 905 lb. squat, 775 lb. bench press, and a 804 lb. deadlift, JL is no doubt one of the strongest and most experienced strength and conditioning coaches in the industry. Episode 211: Derek Hansen - The life of a high performance sport consultant

This episodes guest is Derek Hansen from sprintcoach.com and strengthpowerspeed.com Derek is an International Sport Performance Consultant that has been working with athletes of all ages and abilities in speed, strength and power sports since 1988. His coaching career started in Track and Field, providing instruction to sprinters of all ages eventually working with collegiate sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers. His career evolved rapidly working closely with some of the top performers in the world as a coach and a consultant – including Olympic medalists, world record holders, Canadian National team athletes, and professional athletes from numerous sports. He worked as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Simon Fraser University for 14 years, the first non-US member of the NCAA. He also serves as a performance consultant to numerous professional teams in the NFL, NBA, MLS and NHL, as well as major NCAA Division 1 programs throughout North America, specializing in speed development, strategic performance planning, return-to-competition protocols and neuromuscular electrical stimulation programming. Derek is asked to speak on speed development and high performance training on a regular basis for major events around the world and has also authored a number of books, chapters and journal articles on these subjects.
