This episodes guest sees the reuturn of Mladen Jovanović from complementarytraining.net.

Mladen is a physical preparation coach from Belgrade, Serbia, grew up in Pula, Croatia (which he considers his home town). He was involved in physical preparation of professional, amateur and recreational athletes of various ages in sports, such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, martial arts and tennis.

In his free time he trains Boxing/MMA and lift (sometimes heavy), along with reading about statistics and learning R programming language. Some consider him an Excel wizard. He is also interested in predictive analytics/machine learning.

Mladen was on the ATSW podcast back in episode 146.

On this episode Mladen and I discuss:

  • We talk about his HIIT Maunal

  • I ask Mladen regarding the planning of training - What should be done? When should it done? How to minimize being wrong? Which are 3 concepts he outlines in his manual
  • I ask Mladen to discuss - Phenomenological analysis, mechanistic (or performance) analysis, and physiological analysis
  • Mladen and I discuss how principles from economics can be applied to planning the training process
  • Mladen outlines his 3 heuristics for planning training - 1). Make it simple, 2). Decrease the downside, 3). Increase the upside
  • I ask Mladen what fields outside of sports preparation did he research for the manual
  • I ask Mladen to discuss iterative planning vs up-front planning
  • Mladen and discuss "criteria-based" programming
