EP 054: Fortifying Your Brain Health with Gregory Steencken, MD
"Can quantum biology and light therapy revolutionize brain health?" In this episode of the Quantum Biology Collective podcast, Meredith Oak sits down with Dr. Gregory Steencken, a seasoned MD specializing in emergency and sports medicine. Dr. Steencken shares his transformative journey from traditional medicine to the innovative world of quantum biology.
Highlighting the curative role of nature and natural light, particularly red and infrared light, Dr. Steencken delves into how these elements can restructure cerebral spinal fluid and stimulate brain recovery. He champions the exposure to natural light, especially in the red spectrum, to improve brain function. The conversation also covers the crucial role of sleep in brain health. Dr. Steencken points out the detrimental effects of blue light from screens on sleep quality and advocates for reduced screen time, especially before bed. He suggests outdoor activities, like walking, as dual tools for physical health and natural light exposure.
Acknowledging the nascent stage of quantum biology, Dr. Steencken remains optimistic about its promise for brain health and concussion recovery. He stands behind a holistic healing approach, emphasizing the body's innate ability to heal and maintain equilibrium.
Quotes:
“Something I always sort of go back to is like, all this stuff is still theory, all this stuff is just, you know, our best guess of what's actually going on based on the information we have, but we won't really know until we can do the fantastic voyage thing and shrink ourselves down to the size of being able to see atoms and neutrons and quarks and ups and downs. Until then, the view we have of things is really sort of manufactured, right? Talking about looking at the thing microscopically. So, you know, it has its merits, but you still have to understand it's limitations. It's not, we're not really seeing, you know, what's happening in nature, you know, down at the cellular level or the molecular level.” (10:26 | Gregory Steencken, MD)
“We're animals. We're meant to be outside in the environment. When we surround ourselves with more and more unnatural things, we're just disconnecting ourselves from that. Our quarks and our electrons and our protons and our neutrons, they know something.” (19:10 | Gregory Steencken, MD)
“I usually encourage people to actually try to get walking and this is sort of a secret method of getting them into light therapy too. So go walking outside, right? And so light activity, light exercise, walk, don't run, let your symptoms be your guide as far as like if you're starting to start power walking and then you start getting a headache, okay, well, you gotta back off.” (36:16 | Gregory Steencken, MD)

EP 053: Blue Light & Burnout with Coach Nic Tan Meredith Oke
Are you struggling to find restful sleep in our screen-saturated world? Tune into this episode of the Quantum Biology Collective Podcast where Meredith Oke and sleep guru Coach Nic Tan explore solutions for sleep challenges in our technology-driven era, focusing on blue blocking glasses and circadian rhythm optimization.
Coach Nic Tan recounts discovering how blue light was affecting his sleep and health. He sheds light on how our modern, screen-filled lives disrupt our natural sleep-wake cycles and impede melatonin production, often leading to sleep disturbances and other health concerns.
He emphasizes the role of light hygiene in sleep improvement, recommending starting with affordable blue blocking glasses and later exploring more sophisticated options. Tech solutions like Iris software and the Night Shift mode on iPhones, which redshift screens to minimize harmful blue light exposure, which Nic suggests are particularly crucial in the evening. In home lighting is also an area where we can improve. Nic suggests shifting to circadian-friendly lighting options like orange or red bulbs to minimize melatonin disruption. He says this simple change can markedly enhance sleep quality.
This episode offers concise, practical strategies for better sleep in our digital world, showcasing Coach Nic Tan's insights on improving sleep hygiene for enhanced well-being.
Quotes:
“Blue light actually interrupts our circadian rhythm and tricks and confuses our body into thinking that it's daytime when it's actually night.” - Nic Tan (10:49)
“Up until the invention of the light bulb and even then the earlier light bulbs were not suppressing our melatonin as much. And then the more energy efficient they become, the more and the brighter, the more blue light, the more they're suppressing the melatonin. So now we are basically surrounded, unless we intentionally choose otherwise, if we just default to what's available, we are surrounded by melatonin suppressing agents. Like streetlights, headlights, our light bulbs at home, our screens, all of it.” - Meredith Oke (17:37)
"So typically blue light blocking glasses, that will be the very first step based on my personal experience, as well as, you know, the people that have helped, that seems to be one of the biggest needle movers." - Nic Tan (00:27:03)
“Iris is one of my favorite circadian rhythm-friendly programs for your desktop or your MacBook. Essentially, it's very intuitive, so you can actually set based on your location, so your latitude, longitude, and it will essentially calculate when there's a sunrise and sunsets, and you can then set the extreme settings. For example, when the sun sets, you may want to remove all the blue. And then during daytime, you may want to kind of like just have a little bit of color on your screen. So when you can set the extreme point between solar noon and sunrise and sunset, the program would then run on its own and help you shift the blue as well as the red throughout the entire day.” - Nic Tan (41:01)

Quotes:
Who had an obese horse before? Who had an obese dog before? But if they're starting to suffer these things, they should be your first sign that something in your environment and something you're doing is not quite right. (27:20 | Jackie Jolie)
So number one is seeing the sunrise first thing in the morning before any other light. And then you have to block artificial light at night. (31:36 | Jackie Jolie)
We have lots of dogs that are getting arthritis early on and then even in their old age if they've made it that long and the red light will really help decrease that inflammation and the infrared heat that comes in because I've already been working with some animals with arthritis on it. They just love it. I mean they just kind of melt and then they get their session and then they get up and they're spry, almost like they were when they were a puppy. (47:01 | Jackie Jolie)

EP 050: Circadian Secrets To A Smoother Menopause (& Life)
Managing light is one of the keys to a smoother menopause, says Dr. Candice Knight, a renowned expert in integrative medicine. On this episode of The Quantum Biology Collective, Meredith Oke and Dr. Knight dialogue about the connection between circadian rhythm and hormone regulation. Dr. Knight reveals that a disrupted circadian rhythm can lead to imbalanced hormones, resulting in symptoms like brain fog, fatigue, and changes in libido. But here's the twist: the solution lies in aligning our lifestyle with the natural rhythms of light and dark. By optimizing our exposure to natural light during the day and minimizing artificial light at night, we can support our mitochondria, the powerhouses of our cells, and promote optimal hormone production. Dr. Knight emphasizes the importance of living in sync with our physiology, as it can have a profound impact on our overall well-being.
Quotes:
"All of the protocols that we go over that help make menopause smoother are actually really good to start as early in life as possible." (01:52 | Meredith Oke)
"There's a disconnect between the balance of estrogen and progesterone. And normally it's the progesterone that's starting to drop first. As we enter menopause, you start to see a dip in both hormones to the point that after a year of no menstrual cycle, we consider that menopause. (7:03 | Dr. Candice Knight)
"The circadian rhythm is the orchestra and then the mitochondria is the factory for making them." (32:14 | Dr. Candice Knight)
"The foundation is to regulate circadian rhythm, lots of natural light during the day and very minimal artificial light at night." (38:53 | Meredith Oke)
"If our mitochondria are stressed and overloaded and dysfunctional due to all these other stressors, then the menopausal symptoms are getting more extreme and our response to any kind of medication or hormones is gonna be inconsistent. " (42:04 | - Meredith Oke)
“All roads lead back to this whole having a balance of being in performance mode and being in repair mode. What does artificial light at night do? It robs us of that repair mode. So that detoxification repair is just not happening optimally. (49:28 | Candice Knight)

EP 049: Nutritional Light Technology with Ken Ceder
Can light function as a form of nutrition for our bodies? Join Meredith Oke and Ken Ceder, a seasoned engineer specializing in healthy light solutions on this episode of The Quantum Biology Collective. With over three decades of experience, Ken illuminates the topic of malillumination, drawing parallels between light and essential nutrients, and discussing how our indoor lifestyles may be leaving us light-deficient.
Ken brings to light the pioneering work of John Ott in the realm of full spectrum light technology. He recounts Ott’s serendipitous findings on the influence of light quality on plant growth, which led to the creation of the first full spectrum light tube—an incredible advancement for simulating the benefits of natural sunlight indoors.
So what are the negative repercussions of unhealthy lighting? Ken argues that the kind of light we're exposed to can have disruptive effects on circadian rhythms and metabolism impacting sleep and weight management, and even mood imbalances.
Wrapping up, Ken introduces his own innovative light product designed to combat the challenges of spending too much time indoors. His solution blends LED efficiency with a composition of light that mirrors the natural spectrum, including traces of ultraviolet and near-infrared light, aiming to bring a slice of the sun's benefits to our indoor spaces.
Tune in for an enlightening discussion that sheds light on how the right illumination can lead to a healthier life. This episode is an essential listen for anyone looking to enhance their well-being through conscious light choices.
Quotes:
"Malillumination is suggesting that first and foremost, light is in fact a nutrient, the same as food or basically similar to food." (03:14 | Ken Ceder)
“I don't think there's anything that any of your viewers could possibly do, no matter if they're in great health, or unfortunately, if they're in poor health, if they want to find the simplest, least expensive trick, step out in the morning sun.” (27:18 | Ken Ceder)
"Light is visible radiation. And so what it's doing for you or what it's giving you is energy." (33:07 | Ken Ceder)
“Metabolism, the fire that keeps you going, the fire of your biology is metabolism. It is 100%, 100% based on or dependent on light. So light in the morning, it ignites your metabolism.” (36:12 | Ken Ceder)

EP 048: Cultivating Quantum Coherence with Dr. Christine Schaffner
"Could our body's coherence be the key to optimal health?" Dive into this enlightening episode of the Quantum Biology Collective podcast, where Meredith Oke engages with Dr. Christine Schaffner, a seasoned naturopathic expert, on the concept of quantum coherence and its role in well-being.
Dr. Schaffner shares her transition from conventional naturopathic medicine to frequency medicine, shedding light on the crucial role of the fascia. This connective tissue, she explains, efficiently transmits signals throughout the body, but can be hindered by scar tissue. The potential of scar therapy emerges as a technique to reestablish this coherence and address the trauma in the tissue.
The discussion then explores the interplay between the heart and brain. Dr. Schaffner notes the significant influence of the heart's electromagnetic field in regulating our internal environment and highlights the positive impact of emotions like love and gratitude.
In today's fast-paced world, Dr. Schaffner emphasizes the importance of cultivating inner coherence. She suggests integrating practices such as meditation and community-driven activities to strengthen our internal harmony.
Join this episode for a balanced overview of Dr. Schaffner's insights into the significance of coherence in our biology and its potential to promote health and transformation.
Quotes:
"When we learn about the physics of life, and the field interactions, and the quantum field, and how we're wired to really truly heal, I think the physics of life offer a faster truly root cause of healing." (07:07 | Dr. Christine Schaffner)
"Our fascia is one system that's connected and communicating." (30:25 | Dr. Christine Schaffner)
"The fascia transports our plasma state or the h3o2 or the structured coherent water within the body." (34:21 | Dr. Christine Schaffner)
”The fascia is like a superhighway conducting Quantum information faster than the nervous system and certainly faster than anything biochemistry can explain. And sometimes scar tissue causes blockages in that communication, which show up as symptoms. So when you treat the scar and open up the scar, you see those symptoms that are seemingly unrelated, start to resolve” (39:42 | Meredith Oke)

EP 047: Circadian Friendly Light Bulbs with Daniel Ebbett
"Are your light bulbs making you sick? Discover the shocking truth about artificial light and its impact on your health in this eye-opening episode of the Quantum Biology Collective podcast. Host Meredith Oke dives deep into the world of circadian-friendly lighting with guest Daniel Ebbett, founder of Block Blue Light. Daniel shares his personal journey of overcoming insomnia and migraines by optimizing his light environment. Learn why artificial light at night is a toxin, the dangers of blue light, and the harmful effects of flicker and EMFs. But Daniel also reveals the solution; circadian-friendly light bulbs that address all these issues.
Quotes:
"I'm not even like sleeping. I'm kind of like just being tranquilized and then waking up feeling like so much worse." - Daniel Ebbett (06:08)
"Warm white, cool white, whatever white, as long as it's an LED standard conventional light, it's got lots of blue light in it. It's not good for us." (29:25 | Daniel Ebbett)
"On sub-level to our cells, it's like a strobe light or something, where it's just like this really intense stimulation that we're not consciously aware of, but it's still affecting our physiology on some level." (31:19 | Daniel Ebbett)
"So big picture, what we're trying to do is to keep our indoor lighting as close to possible as sort of what's happening outside, which is like a gradual change in the brightness and a gradual change in the color temperature of the light." (45:09 | Meredith Oke)
"We're not designed to stay awake hours and hours past sunset. We're artificially being kept awake by the lighting that we turn on and use to see, right? So it's quite interesting when you see people that are used to that and they're like, no, no, no, I'm like a night owl. And then they start trying this and like, holy, I just can't stay awake in the evenings. I'm so tired. And it's like, that's how you're supposed to feel." (50:54 | Daniel Ebbett)
"So the rule of thumb with the blue blocking glasses is ‘A’, if they're genuinely blocking blue light, they're going to have dark orange or reddish lenses. And ‘B’, you only want to wear those dark orange or reddish lenses when it's dark out or as it's getting dark, because it's going to tell your body it's nighttime. So if it's daytime, you don't want to wear them, even if you're on your computer or in harsh lighting." (1:00:07 | Meredith Oke)

EP 046: The Quantum Secrets of Bees with Amber Hargroder
Discover the connection between bees and quantum biology in this captivating episode of the Quantum Biology Collective podcast. Join host Meredith Oke as she delves into the world of bees with guest Amber Hargroder, a modern-day Renaissance woman with a deep understanding of beekeeping and quantum biology. Through the metaphor of bees, Amber explores key principles of quantum biology, highlighting the importance of our connection to nature for our health and well-being. Learn how bees communicate through light, navigate their environment, and create structured water, all while embodying a sense of love and unity within their hive. Uncover the fascinating parallels between bees and humans, and gain insights into the regenerative power of bees when left to their natural instincts!
Quote:
"Consider each hive a cell and each bee a mitochondria. The honey is structured water that the mitochondria produce." (12:08 | Amber Hargroder)
"The bees teach us how to listen to that [vibration and frequency]. And, you know, quantum biology principles and structured water aside, I think one of the things that the bees teach us is what love means." (18:04 | Amber Hargroder)
"So, if you're a conventionally kept hive, the pollen that you're getting is not going to have the diversity that it would normally have. And so even being mixed with these enzymes, and again, they don't have the genetic diversity, so they don't have a diversity of gut bacteria either." (36:00 | Amber Hargroder)
"So, they are in complete relationship with the sun at all times and they are bringing that… and if light is information that is the information they are also bringing back into the hive to teach their young." (40:59 | Amber Hargroder)
"If you want to help bees just plant native plants. The best thing about planting native plants is they want to be there. So you don't have to baby them. You don't have to worry about them. They'll just do their thing. And I think that's more the direction, you know, trust your own instincts, trust yourself, trust that nature has got it, like just give it the tools that it needs to succeed. And it will do that. And the same thing as with your health, it's taking away things that are preventing you from being healthy while giving you, kind of setting you up for success, with small lifestyle changes that may seem inconsequential, but they do add up." Ep 045: How To Be Your Own Quantum Health Detective With MovNat Coach John Warner
"I did everything wrong for about 48 years of my life… I used to be the guy that could eat anything, I avoided the sun, I drank a pot of coffee every day, and I lived in an environment with cell phone towers and radiation," says John Warner.
In this episode of the podcast, host Meredith Oke welcomes guest John Warner to share his personal health journey and the transformative insights he gained along the way. John's story begins with a family history of cancer, including the loss of his father and several aunts and uncles. Faced with the devastating reality that the medical community had no answers, John embarked on a quest to uncover the truth about health and wellness.
John's journey started with the typical approach of focusing on food and exercise. He adopted fasting and a healthy diet, which did have some positive effects on his well-being. However, it wasn't until he discovered the importance of sunlight and circadian rhythms that his health truly began to shift. John realized that his family's lack of sun exposure and excessive artificial light exposure may have played a significant role in their cancer diagnoses.
With this newfound knowledge, John made intentional changes to his lifestyle. He started watching the sunrise every morning, soaking up the healing rays of sunlight. He also prioritized high-quality sleep and mitigated his exposure to artificial light after sunset. The results were remarkable. John experienced improved sleep, increased energy, and a greater sense of well-being.
But the journey didn't end there. In a surprising turn of events, John received a cancer diagnosis himself. However, armed with his newfound understanding of quantum biology and the power of light, he faced the challenge head-on. John opted for surgery to remove the tumor on his kidney, knowing that he had the tools to support his body's healing process.
Through his story, John reminds us that our health is not solely determined by our genetics. Environmental factors, such as light exposure and lifestyle choices, play a significant role in our well-being. By embracing the principles of quantum biology and harnessing the power of sunlight and circadian rhythms, we can take control of our health and potentially prevent or overcome serious illnesses.
Quotes:
"I started digging into blogs, podcast, and I figured out my food was pretty good. I was eating right. But I started eating seasonal and local." (13:30 | John Warner)
"I just lay in the sun all day and then I'd get an ice bath. So I'd get in 45, 50 degrees ice a couple of times a day." (22:22 | John Warner)
"So I go the next morning, get an MRI. And I have a tumor on my right kidney, about a six month tumor." (00:30:55 | John Warner)
I'm cancer free. I still get in the sun all the time. Now, I'm human. There's days where I I'm busy. I've slowed down since I've had surgery. So I can spend more time in the sun. See, a lot of people don't want to change their paradigm or their, how they live. They just want to keep doing the same thing, you know, and I, you can't get sick, can't get well in the same environment you got sick in. And you can't get well, keep doing the same thing that got you sick. You have to be able to change. And so I've even changed my work and my schedule so I can be outside more, so I can be with my family more, so I can be in a nice bath more. I don't have to travel as much and drive around as much. So you just, you have to be willing to change. And most people aren't willing to change nowadays. They're just doing the same old thing. (51:12 | John Warner)
“Science is very complex. The application of it is very simple.” (45:29 | Meredith Oke)
