Stop Playing Life On The Defense: Turn Adversity To Your Advantage with Brett Eaton

Adversity now, Advantage later The verse that says, “gold is tested by fire” holds a lot of meaning. For one,  it is referring to the genuineness of faith. The same goes for a person’s character. The adversities and most challenging moments in our life are usually the most difficult times to go back and talk about in the open.   If we really think about it, we are all soldiers in the warzone, and battle scars are nothing to be ashamed of. Instead, we should take pride in them because if we look closer, they are the reason we become the real person that we are, stronger and wiser. This week on the show, Brett Eaton will talk about how you can go straightforward and intentional about approaching life, coming out stronger after surviving adversities, being brutally aware of yourself, going about every little detail that will move you closer to fulfillment, and being crystal clear of what you want to achieve. And these come with the tagline, “Adversity now, advantage later.” Brett mentions the top 3 things on how you can practice intentionally towards your goals and playing life on the offense:1. Having brutal self-awareness2. Choosing commitment over comfort3. Setting measurable goals and tracking progress These are the episode highlights you shouldn’t miss: 01:40  Brett’s journey to becoming a coach04:08  The fundamental pillars of Brett’s coaching07:58  The mindset and practices of high-performance achievers11:50    How to nurture continued self-awareness intentionally13:26   How to be more effective with time management and creating goals15:36   What you can do to remove distractions and time-wasters so we can narrow down to things that we are really passionate about.17:36   How to fill life with things that are energizing and less of what’s draining17:47   How to turn adversity into an opportunity20:41   How writing on paper can help one sort out the lessons from  adversity27:09   The analogy between dating and adversity29:15    Why everyone has a certain level of confidence and how to keep building it36:44   The daily habits that Brett follows39:02   His definition of love40:29   His secret to living a fulfilled life42:06   What Brett wants his legacy to be43:33   The most influential people in his life45:51   How small changes can make great impact Episode Challenge (20:41)There is always a good thing that comes from the difficult moments in our life. Here’s a challenge for you. Find out what that is by writing down on paper your answers to the questions below. Go back to the last five years of your life. What is one of those really difficult moments in your life?  What did you learn from it?  How did you come out after you’ve gotten past that moment?  How do you think differently?  What part of you has become better?  If not from that moment, did you learn from people? What was shifting perspective?  What did you learn to get through it? Because the gift could be in that. If you try this exercise, let us know and tag us @iamclaudine and Marc Anthony at the @btopodcast.   About the Guest: Brett Eaton is a Life Optimization Coach, speaker, author, owner, founder of The Better You Blueprint Coaching Program, and co-host of the podcast, The Better You Blueprint Podcast. Brett believes that life is meant to be played on offense, not the defense. Quieting The Monkey Mind: Effective Leadership Mindset in the Workplace with Shawn Clark

Are Leaders Born or Made? Often, people get promoted to leadership roles because they are effective at what they do. However, when it comes to effective leadership, that detail barely scratches the surface. A big chunk of the hard work lies underneath because being effective at work is one thing and effectively managing people is another.   Stepping up to leadership is a milestone that marks the start of what is to be rigorous and consistent cultivation of skills without losing unique abilities and character as an individual. Our guest, Shawn Clark, was at the forefront of the leadership coaching industry. He knows exactly how leaders can fine-tune their left and right brains so that they can leverage their superpowers, strategize around their weaknesses, develop an effective leadership mindset, and not end up as a nervous wreck in the process. Tune in to this episode of Breakthrough The Ordinary Podcast and create a game plan for your leadership path. These are the episode highlights you shouldn’t miss: 01:44  Shawn’s journey into becoming a coach04:35 The four quadrants of the brain that define thinking styles06:15 Understanding your strengths and consciously approaching weaknesses08:10 How admitting your vulnerabilities help you as a leader, your reputation, and create an impact on your personal brand10:10 Executive skills vs. executive thinking11:22  The struggle with delegation18:22 How to intentionally set yourself up for success in the shortest possible time21:29  Understanding mental fitness and recognizing  mental hijack when it happens26:45  How to build  the muscle that handles stress positively to get  you back on track32:41 Mapping your time spend and evaluating if it is serving you well35:08 How to catch the monkey mind and silence it39:43 The sense of balance that’s called executive presence40:32  The five-second pause that lets you release the panic buttons pressed on you44:55 Shawn’s influences46:17  Shawn’s daily habits and routines that keep him showing up effectively47:16 What Shawn does instead of reading books50:29 Shawn’s superpower Episode Challenge (32:41) Map out where your time is spent to assess if you have all your bases covered. Take a look at an average day or average week and understand where your time is spent.   Create four boxes and label them as follows: what I enjoy doing, what I don't enjoy doing, what I need to do on the side, and what I don't need to do.   Write down in each of those boxes the things that you do and order them by importance. Doing this will help you qualify the things that are important (whether you enjoy doing them or not) and need more attention, things that will get you more results, and things that you need to delegate to people who are really good at those. Your strengths and weaknesses are well accounted for and none of the important things are missed out in the process. This is a reasonable and logical way to approach leadership. If you try this exercise, let us know and tag us @iamclaudine and Marc Anthony at the @btopodcast.   About the Guest: Shawn Clark is the President of Atlanta Challenge, LLC, an Atlanta-based training and coaching enterprise where he develops and facilitates cutting-edge workshops and effective coaching for teams and leaders.   Shawn helps leaders unlock the team dynamics that will help them harness simple strategies to delegate, prioritize, and communicate effectively so they can accomplish more together as a team without the usual stress and overwhelm. Shawn has several certifications under  his belt including:Robbins-Madanes Coach (Tony Robbins and Chloe MadanesMarshall Goldsmith Leadership Coach and Teamwork CoachThinking Styles PractitionerPositive Intelligence CoachDr. Amen Licensed Brain Trainer. Over the last two decades, Shawn has worked with companies such as Accenture, Coca-Cola, Home Depot, and Cox Media. 3 Ways Philanthropist Tonya Parris is Promoting Diversity and Inclusion with Tonya Parris

From a Wall Street Executive to an Altruistic Entrepreneur  Her love for computers, her childhood life spent in the Bronx, and the thoughtful upbringing of her parents made Tonya Parris the resilient and tenacious woman who paved her way to Wall Street. These are the same attributes that turned her to becoming an altruistic entrepreneur founder of The Parris Foundation: S.T.E.M.ulating Minds as well as CEO of the Parris Group, Inc. 3 Ways Philanthropist Tonya Parris is Promoting Diversity and Inclusion Through The Parris Foundation: S.T.E.M.ulating MindsSTEMulating Minds is a nonprofit under The Parris Foundation that promotes educational opportunities and fostering awareness in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) by servicing disenfranchised communities, providing scholarships to students from disadvantaged, socio-economic backgrounds, and collaborating with organizations focused on improving access to technology for low-income families. The Parris GroupThe Parris Group is a consulting, training, and coaching company that creates corporate consciousness, corporate transformation, and expansion while providing continuing emotional intelligence development for employees through seminars and workshops, and retreats. Through The Parris Group, Tonya reaches out not only to corporations but to companies where the parents of STEMulating Minds students work so they too can benefit from the tools that cultivate exploration, self-observation, emotional intelligence and have a level of awareness that enables them to have a reflective conversation, powered by masterful listening from coaches and trainers.   The Transformation of RaceTonya co-created The Transformation of Race with the world-renowned executive coach, management consultant, entrepreneur, and trainer Bettie J. Spruill.  The program is a safe place for all races, colors, creeds, ages, ethnicities to come together and have a conversation and gain another level of awareness around varying worldviews and ecologies.  It is a safe place to explore knowing what you thought you know or don’t know, and discuss social responsibility. More than that, it’s a place of powerful discussions about oneness over separation, commonality rather than differences, and community over clustering or isolation using a myriad of learning tools such as exercises, journaling, etc. These are the episode highlights you shouldn’t miss:02:25 How Tonya pivoted from being one of the women of Wall Street to an altruistic entrepreneur07:41 What the Parris Foundation: STEMulating Minds is all about:14:23 The transformation of Parris Group from a technology consulting company to one that focuses on holistic corporate consciousness that encompasses the emotional well-being of employees and social responsibility19:40 What fuels Tonya and how she takes care of herself23:27 Living the commitment to excellence and coming from a place of responsibility26:41 The 10/10 relationship33:19 How The Transformation of Race training was conceived and what it’s all about40:19 Managing racism through resilience and absolute tenacity45:33 The actions between different people or different communities that could open up and move the conversation around inclusivity and diversity  50:17 Are we really free or is freedom just a promise “embedded” in the Constitution?52:56 How to challenge ourselves to be in a space of understanding people who are perceived to be different by opening up conversations.  55:05 Being mindful that what we buy into supports the ESG (Environmental Social Governance) model.57:27 Tonya’s greater vision for the world57:56 The most influential people in Tonya’s life59:46 What God means to Tonya  1:01:18 Tonya’s reading vault1:03:57 The daily habits that have Tonya showing up effectively Episode ChallengeStart off with a 30-day challenge to begin breaking barriers and understand “others” more through the power of open conversations, because it’s through understanding other people's worldviews that we learn and grow.    Challenge #1 (53:00-53:44)  Approach someone that you might perceive as different. By different, it doesn't necessarily mean that his/her skin color is different from yours. It can mean that someone grew up in another area, urban versus suburban, from another community or tribe, or a different economic or socio-economic status.Talk to that person. Create a meaningful conversation.Listen to their views and learn where they are coming from. Practice mindfulness when you buy something.  Challenge #2 (55:06-56:47)  Really think about the businesses where you’re putting your money into. Do they support the ESG (environmental, social, governance)  model? By ESG we mean, are they sourcing materials responsibly, paying fair wages, going by ethical standards and their moral compass puts people, animals, and the environment’s welfare over profit. Be critically altruistic.Challenge #3 (56:22 -56:47)  Be altruistic and be a contributor. If you're going to give your money anywhere, giving it to education is all worth it more than you think. It could be something like Parris Foundation: STEMulating Minds or something else, but give your money to something that supports education because education is the only way that we're going to break the cycle of racism.Have you opened up to these challenges in the hope of starting change from within yourself? Tell us what having opened such conversations made you feel. Have you bought from an ethical business recently? Or, have you supported any foundations?  How does doing any of these challenges change you as a person? Does it change how you relate with people you perceive as different? Tell us about it. Tag us @thebtopodcast on socials. Let’s make this change happen! About the Guest:Tonya is the President and Founder of The Parris Foundation: S.T.E.M.ulating Minds as well as CEO of The Parris Group, Inc., a technology, financial, professional and personal development consulting and coaching firm that supports social and emotional learning, intelligence & responsibility through seminars, workshops and retreats.Tonya earned her Masters on Science in Engineering Program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Moore School of Engineering. She completed her undergraduate studies at Binghamton University where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science at the Watson School of Engineering. Before her commitment to be in service to others, Tonya followed her passion for technology and pursued a career as a Software Engineer in the Financial Services industry where she lived amidst the few Women on Wall Street in the IT Application Development space.  After over 20 years of working for premiere companies like Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan Chase, UBS, Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs, Tonya achieved the significance and the certainty that was lacking from her life as a child who grew up in public housing in the Bronx. On the other hand, her experience volunteering her weekends to support people with all sorts of things such as women’s shelter and children’s welfare was what made Tonya feel full in her heart.  This experience and her vested interest in the economically distressed communities that she serves sparked the idea of starting The Parris Foundation, an organization that is dedicated to promoting educational opportunities, servicing disenfranchised communities by providing access to STEM education through scholarships and collaborating with other organizations that supports access to technology for low-income families.Tonya is also an ICF (International Coaching Federation) certified coach, a transformational trainer, the co- developer of the training called The Transformation of Race. To know more about Tonya Parris and what she does:Follow Tonya on Instagram: @tonyaparrisLike The Parris Foundation: STEMulating Minds on Facebook: @ParrisFundVisit https://www.stemulatingminds.org/ Follow the Podcast:  Apple Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/breakthrough-the-ordinary/id1579129631  Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/7L6XsP0M87M8CX7AJ2LRS4  Google Podcasts - https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5zaW1wbGVjYXN0LmNvbS9DQ1V1NVR6ag  Amazon Music - https://q4k0kx5j.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fmusic.amazon.com%2Fpodcasts%2F05bbcd2c-1e6b-4d09-934e-4eac42e12362/1/0100017af9eb75aa-8c17c10b-25b5-4300-b24e-c002d99f89b3-000000/lIGTk2xPKpZbRH-tqg7FXsRKud4=229  iHeartRadio - https://iheart.com/podcast/85365975/  Follow Us [@thebtopodcast]:  Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/thebtopodcast  Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/thebtopodcast  Twitter - https://twitter.com/thebtopodcast  TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@thebtopodcast  Website - https://btopodcast.com  Contact Us - thebtopodcast@gmail.com   About the podcast:  Are you ready to commit to your future self---if you are, Marc Chiaramonte, a creative entrepreneur, coach, and adventure seeker, and Claudine Chiarmonte, psychotherapist, coach & joy creator, are ready to take you on a journey of self-discovery to unlock your highest potential! Influence Climate Change and Reverse Chronic Disease through a Sustainable Lifestyle with Enrica Sacca | EP 26

They say if you want to see change, start with yourself! That was exactly how our guest, Enrica Sacca, turned her health around and reversed colitis, a chronic digestive disease she carried on from age six. In this episode, Enrica gets deep about her transition to a whole-food, plant-based (WFPB) lifestyle that created massive change in her well-being.By the time her parents should be enjoying the home they worked so hard to invest in, they were all stuck in sicknesses in the family. The family suffered a deep financial and emotional burden from her mother's eventual liver transplant. Enrica Sacca knew she needed a change, and that's when she started paying attention to food systems.  One good thing led to another. Owing to a driven nature, Enrica pursued a certificate in Plant-based Nutrition from T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies. She awakened to the truth about the food that we eat.  To her, the new health paradigm was like an oxygen mask in the plane that you put on yourself first. You feel immense gratitude for the transformation, and then you desire other people to experience it too. She created The Lifestyle Building community to empower others, especially people bound by chronic diseases and the band-aid medication trap.If you believe that it is about time to take charge of your health, tune in to this episode of Breakthrough The Ordinary Podcast. 3 Tips to Effectively Handle a Difficult Conversation in Life with Adela Raffa | EP 24

When things no longer work the way they have been designed, we try to fix them. We hope this holds true for our relationships with family, partners, money, careers, and even the world around us. But the way it worked with our guest, Adela Raffa was different. She thought that fixing people outside of herself would make her feel better. But going through a self-awareness process proved this wrong. Finding her inner landscape allowed her to embody the change that she wanted to see, find alignment and become more connected with the present.Three Tips to Effectively Handle Difficult Conversations1. Tonality is important. The meaning of your communication is the response you get. If you don't like the response you are getting, change the way you communicate.2. Ask better questions. Ask how, what, where, or when and avoid the why. When asked "why?" it raises our suspicions, we feel judged, and our defenses go up.3. Communication doesn’t always have to be words. If it’s difficult to say in words, use actions to show what you mean. Sometimes effectively communicating something is being silent and not saying anything at all.Episode Challenge (54:54)Think of a moment with someone where it was difficult to start a conversation.Open the conversation by stating the obvious about yourself. For example, say how you are feeling at the moment like – “I'm really nervous. My palms are sweaty. You know, I don't know how to start.”Next, state what you are noticing with the other person. For example, say “You're looking at me, and I'm feeling very vulnerable. I'm feeling uncomfortable.” Or say, “ You're looking at me, say something.”Who did you choose? What was your experience? What was your state-the-obvious?” If you upload it to social media tag us @thebtopodcast and use #breakthroughtheordinarypodcast and #btochallenge or email your video to us at hello@breakthroughmediaco.com.Guest’s Bio:Adela Raffa is an international coach, teacher, trainer, speaker, workshop facilitator, and healer. She is a Certified Gestalt Therapy Practitioner, Certified Master NLP Practitioner, Registered Business Coach, Sacred Healing Minister, Usui Reiki Master, and holds a degree in Human Services & Social Work. Before her breakthrough, Adela was a divorced single parent with unfinished emotional baggage, overwhelmed, felt stuck and stagnant despite her 20-year stint in Corporate America.  This life-long learner knew that there was more to life and embarked on a personal development quest. She tried everything from Cognitive and Jungian therapy to experimental counseling. She studied various spiritual beliefs and processed inner child work. What she thought of was a rabbit hole that she had fallen into had emerged into a whole new world that revealed an inner landscape where she found the missing piece of the puzzle that was her "self." This pursuit completely changed her life. Now, Adela is on a mission to bring people into the same transformational journey. Using simple tools and techniques that worked for her, Adela combines the different practices and modalities with a dash of mindfulness, a pinch of spirituality, and a healthy dose of intuition to help people create a powerful, positive change in their lives.Follow Adela On:Her website: https://www.adelaraffa.com/    Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/awarenesswithadela  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/adelaraffa/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/adela-raffa-740b9946/ Listen to More Episodes:Apple PodcastSpotifyGoogle PodcastsAmazon MusiciHeartRadioFollow Us [@thebtopodcast]: Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/thebtopodcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/thebtopodcastTwitter - https://twitter.com/thebtopodcastTikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@thebtopodcastWebsite - https://btopodcast.comContact Us - thebtopodcast@gmail.comAbout the podcast: Are you ready to commit to your future self---if you are, Marc Chiaramonte, a creative entrepreneur, coach, and adventure seeker, and Claudine Chiarmonte, psychotherapist, coach & joy creator, are ready to take you on a journey of self-discovery to unlock your highest potential!
