E.69 The Effect Oral Health Has On Our Overall Health and The Environment With Dr. Simon Chard Co-Founder of PARLA

This week we are deep diving into the world of oral health and the effect it has on our overall health and also how the products we are using are having a detrimental effect on the planet. I am joined by Dr. Simon Chard who is a Cosmetic Dentist as well as being the President of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Co-Founder of Parla.Parla is on a mission to redefine Oral Care for the next generation through producing products that are not only full of amazing ingredients but also use no plastic. All their products are in recyclable or re-fillable packaging and therefore the products are in the form of tablets rather than in a plastic tube or bottle. Their motto is one small change as just by changing the packaging that our toothpaste or mouthwash comes in we are having a dramatic effect on the planet.Every toothpaste tube that you have ever used still exists today. They don't decompose and they don't get recycled which is a terrifying statistic and one which Dr. Simon Chard is hugely passionate about. The fact that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish is unimaginable! Dr. Simon Chard through both his social media presence and through growing Parla is on a mission to make a difference and so his children and grandchildren can enjoy the oceans how we do today. In this episode we also discover more about the link between our oral health and overall health and how gut health starts in our mouths and then works it's way down! I was also able to ask Simon some burning questions I had about the myths around dental care and what not to eat in order to keep our teeth and oral health in check.Topics Discussed:Simon's journey to Cosmetic DentistryThe power of a smileSimon's journey to ParlaHow Parla products workThe effect the toothpaste industry is having on the environmentOral health and the effect it has on our overall healthFluoride in toothpasteDental hygiene myths and whether they are true or falseTo checkout Parla head to https://parlatoothpastetabs.com/This episode was hosted by Georgia Symonds and produced by Maisie Peppitt Hosted on Acast. E.68 Why We Should All Be Taking CBD with Eoin Co-Founder and CEO of Good Rays

This week I am joined by Eoin Keenan Co-Founder and CEO of Good Rays the UK's Fastest Growing CBD Brand which creates a range of products from CBD-infused drinks to Oil and Gummies. Not only has Eoin started one of the first CBD brands in the UK but he has been working in the industry for a decade. In this time he has been in the regulatory space, working with industry-leading consultants in order to push for regulatory change in order to help open up new cannabis ventures and help the global movement towards enabling CBD to be legalised and consumed as part of a healthy lifestyle. During this time Eoin found the world's best growers as well as advise on the best products which stemmed the idea for creating Good Rays.Unlike many other CBD brands, Good Rays contains 30mg of CBD which is higher than competitors and this is so you can feel and receive the full benefit of CBD whilst using or consuming their products.Due to Eoin's extensive work in the field, I was really looking forward to having him in my kitchen to discuss the ins and outs of CBD. Why it is so good for us, why it doesn't actually make us high but it does relax us in a different way and what the regulations are currently but how they are due to change. If you are new or apprehensive about using CBD hopefully this one's for you.As a consumer I have always been really sceptical about CBD which I think was mainly down to nerves and lack of education on the topic, but as of recently, I have become more and more interested in it and really appreciate how it can work in our favour and become part of a balanced and healthy lifestyle. I personally really enjoy the CBD drinks and have one if I am feeling particularly anxious or nervousTopics we discuss:How Eoin first became interested in CBDWhy he is so passionate about it The International Cannabis PolicyWhy and how the policies are changing The plant itself and why it is so good for both consumers and the planetThe difference between hemp, CBD and Cannabis Why CBD doesn't make you high but Cannabis doesWhy CBD is so good for us and why we should incorporate it into our daily livesStarting Good Rays and the journey so farWhere they get their CBD from Competition and how they compare to the other players in the marketWhat's next for the CBD industryWhat's next for Good RaysTo check out Good Rays and get your hands on some of their products - click the link below:https://www.goodrays.com/collections/all/ Hosted on Acast. E.61 The Art Of Running With The Irish Physio Aidan O'Flaherty

This week, Aidan O'Flaherty, known on Social Media as the Irish Physio, joins me in my kitchen to talk all things running. I met Aidan when I injured myself in preparation for the London Marathon. During our sessions, it occurred to me firstly, just how knowledgeable Aidan was on all things running and recovery and also how little I knew about how to run properly and recover effectively.I then decided to bring Aidan onto the podcast to talk about these topics in more detail as the lockdown resulted in a lot of us taking to running in order to clear our heads and add movement into our days, however with that I'm sure came injuries and niggles that ruined the fun.Aidan's history starts with a football career and due to multiple injuries led him to physiotherapy where he has completed a higher-level certificate for exercise physiology and worked in the NHS for a number of years before working in private practice. Aidan's focus is on running and running injuries as he has also completely fallen in love with the sport and therefore aims to help athletes and recreational runners continue to enjoy the amazing sport.Aidan also had a past with an unhealthy relationship with alcohol which he opened up about on this podcast and although it's a hugely moving story it's incredible how he has completely changed his life and lifestyle as a result.Topics we discuss:His childhoodAidans early career in footballHow he pivoted into physiologyHis personal injuries and recoveryThe benefits of running for our physical and mental healthImportance of strength trainingImportance of nutritionImportance of sleepAidan's personal dietAidan's relationship with alcoholTurning SoberThis is a fantastic episode which I wish I could have had before training for the marathon, it is so inspirational and if you are not currently a runner, I think this may inspire you.References:Pedisic, Z. et al. (2019a) ‘Is running associated with a lower risk of all-cause, cardiovascular and cancer mortality, and is the more the better?
