Under the Banner of Heaven, a miniseries on Hulu based on the book by John Krakauer, was released this last weekend. We watched the first two episodes on the day of the release and, as active and practicing members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as the Mormon Church), we filmed our reactions! Today on Hulu, a miniseries called Under the Banner of Heaven was released. This series focuses on the Lafferty murders that occurred in 1984. The Lafferty brothers who committed the murders were raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For today's episode, we had the incredible opportunity to talk with the sergeant during the Lafferty case, Mike Pientka. Mike was in direct contact with Dan Lafferty almost every single day for a year. He talks about Dan's character, his change in demeanor, and the overall experience being close with a murderer. We are finally hearing the conversion story of one of the incredible hosts for Saints Unscripted, Kaitlyn Fotheringham! Kaitlyn has been a part of Saints Unscripted for some time and has such an incredible testimony of Jesus Christ. If you have been to a Church meeting in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you have probably heard the word "sustain" used rather frequently. So what does it mean to "sustain" someone in the Church? Do I need to constantly be aware of the person's needs and responsibilities? Do I need to agree with everything a Church leaders says and does in order to fully "sustain" the person? What if I sustain someone but don't agree with them? Is that possible? We are so grateful to have Siggi and Alex join us today for an episode story of conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as the Mormon Church).
