74: When You're Not Spending

Have you ever thought about what you’re buying yourself and what you’re creating for your future self when you’re not spending your money? For those of us who love to shop and spend, we view having and saving our money as the opposing force to what we really want. We think that having your money is boring, restrictive, and unnecessary. But what if I told you that wasn’t the case. What if I told you that you get to go shopping with every dollar you earn and the question isn’t “Should I save or should I spend?” but rather “I get to go shopping. What do I want to buy myself? Something tangible or something intangible?” In this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we’re talking about a groundbreaking concept about what you buy for yourself when you’re not spending. We explore what the opposite of spending is, the difference between having and saving your money, what you buy yourself when you’re spending and not spending your money, which is more valuable, and how to shift your mindset so that regardless of what you choose (spend or don’t spend) you win and feeling amazing about your choice. This episode will truly change the way you manage your money for the better. 72: Your Spending Self-Concept

What do you believe to be true about you? The thoughts that you think about yourself are the most important thoughts you think because they form your self-concept. Our self-concept feeds how confident, worthy, and capable we feel when it comes to managing our money at the highest level and it’s constantly either working for you or against you. The truth is, you are a self-fulfilling prophecy. The thoughts that you think about yourself will come true through the way we are designed as human beings. Whatever you think about, you will bring about. This is why your self-concept when it comes to your finances and your spending is so important. It is the beginning and end of every financial result you create. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast we’re talking about one of the most underappreciated yet most impactful thought work concepts there is, your self-concept. In this episode, we explore what your spending self-concept is, the most common self-concept of overspenders, why your self-concept matters, how it always ends up proving itself true, and how to form a positive self-concept that serves you in creating the financial results you desire. This episode will show you the importance of the thoughts you think about the most important person in your world, yourself. 71: The Spending Shame Cycle

Have you ever felt ashamed over a past money decision you’ve made? Maybe you bought an item impulsively, you spent money you didn’t have resulting in debt, or you bought an item you didn’t get any use out of. If you’ve felt shame about your past spending choices you’re not alone. Shame is a deep-rooted and prevalent emotion that keeps us trapped in secrecy and judgment and if not dealt with properly keeps us from reaching our full financial potential. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast we’re talking about a concept I call the spending shame cycle that keeps us stuck financially and repeating practiced spending behaviors that don’t serve us in the long run. We explore the areas of our finances where shame is most prevalent, the difference between shame and guilt, where shame comes from, the four phases of the spending shame cycle, why it’s so difficult for us to break out of and the process we can go through to lessen the grip that shame has within our finances and over our life. If shame is an emotion you feel is prevalent within your relationship with money this episode is one that will be an absolute game-changer. 70: Money Well Spent

What’s the best money you’ve ever spent? A time when you spent your money on an item, service, or experience where you felt good spending the money in the moment and you still felt amazing about the purchase a week, month, or year later? This is what I call "money well spent". Money that is spent where the value or result that you get from what you bought is more valuable to you than the money that you spent to acquire it. My ultimate goal is to help you align your spending so that most, if not all, of the money that you spend is money well spent.   This week on The Money Love Podcast we’re diving into four ways that you can spend your money that are scientifically proven to boost your happiness and satisfaction levels. These “money well spent” categories work because they touch on core needs and desires that we have as human beings like self-love and connection with others. If you want to feel happier, your money is a tool that can deliver that happiness to you. This will be an episode you don’t want to miss. 69: Consumer Culture Is Lying To You

Consumer culture bombards us with lies aimed at making us spend money on unnecessary items. It equates self-worth with material possessions, leaving many feeling unfulfilled. Advertising often uses emotional manipulation, especially targeting parents to link products with their children's safety. The promise of happiness through accumulation is critiqued, urging a shift toward internal fulfillment and meaningful relationships. Prioritizing personal growth and intentional spending can lead to true happiness.

68: Finding Balance With Your Money

Your brain is not wired for balance. Your brain is wired for polarization. Your brain loves black and white all or nothing thinking and in all aspects of life, your brain wants you to pick a side and to not entertain that the opposite could be true. This is what quiets the cognitive dissonance between possibilities and creates the certainty that your brain is always seeking. This is even true in the way that we think about money which becomes problematic because when you’re not thinking about money in a balanced way, you will not have an emotional experience with money that is balanced which means you won’t manage your finances in a balanced way. You will live in the extremes, in the all or nothing, which closes you off to new possibilities and reaching your highest potential.   In this week of The Money Love Podcast we’re talking all about balance and how to create it within your finances. We start with exploring why achieving balance in life is so difficult and why our brain fights balance, how so much of the common money messages we absorb don’t promote balance, and the steps that we can take to create a more balanced mental, emotional, and tactical management style with our money. 67: Why I'm Not Setting Any Goals in 2022

For the first time in a long time, I’m starting out a new year without any goals I'm working towards. I decided that I'm going to try something completely different in 2022.  The truth is, I set some big, scary, crazy goals in 2021 and I didn't come anywhere close to hitting most of them. Like, I missed the mark big time. And then, I used missing the mark as a reason to beat myself up and I felt like a failure in so many ways. Now, I know I'm not alone here. In fact, only 9% of people actually achieve their New Year's resolutions each year. For most of us (myself included) we enter each year with exciting goals but by February 1 the pursuit of those goals is long gone and we're left feeling discouraged and disappointed in ourselves.     In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast I’m breaking down the inherent issues that we run into with the goal-setting process and I'm explaining why I'm confident 2022 will be my best year yet without any goals leading the way. In this episode we're going to discuss why I'm not setting goals in 2022, the misunderstanding about goals that leads to abandonment, the secret behind creating any result you want in your finances, what I'm focusing on in 2022 instead of striving towards goals, and why I'm confident 2022 will be my best year ever without goals. 66: Intentional Thought Creation

Do you create your thoughts on purpose? Or do you let your thoughts run on default and be based on past programming that isn’t serving you? The sad reality is that most people don’t realize that the quality of their thoughts will determine the quality of their lives and are the catalyst of every result they desire to create. Many adults live in a state of emotional childhood, attributing their emotions to their financial circumstances, and because of this they don’t realize the importance of their thoughts and as a result, they never practice the life-changing practice of intentional thought creation.   In this week of The Money Love Podcast, we’re talking all about the process of intentional thought creation and why it matters. I also walk you through the 4-step process of intentional thought creation that will enable you to reach your full financial potential. The message of this episode is simple: You either learn to control your thoughts, or your thoughts will control you. One path leads to you creating and living an extraordinary life, and the other will lead to a life of repeated underwhelming results. There is no result that is off the table for you to create because there is no thought that you cannot think and perfect with the process of intentional thought creation.
