Welcome to the What’s Next! Podcast. I’ve met so many brilliant people as I traveled the globe and have had some fascinating conversations that I’ve wished had been recorded so I could share them with you - this podcast was a way for me to recreate those moments and let you in on some fantastic insights. My current conversations center around one objective: what's next for companies and individuals as they look to innovate and grow. Bringing Humanity Back to Work with Seth Godin
Welcome to the What's Next! Podcast with Tiffani Bova. This week I’m welcoming back a good friend and a fan-favorite on the What’s Next! Podcast, Seth Godin. In this episode, I’m sharing our recent LinkedIn Live chat. Seth is the author of 20 books that have been bestsellers around the world and have been translated into more than 40 languages. He writes about the post-industrial revolution, how ideas spread, marketing, quitting, leadership, and–most of all–changing everything. His latest book is The Song of Significance: A Manifesto for Teams. You might be familiar with his books Linchpin, Tribes, The Dip, and, my favorite, Purple Cow. In addition to his writing and speaking, Seth founded both Yoyodyne and Squidoo. His blog, which you can find simply by typing ‘Seth’ into Google, is one of the most popular in the world. Seth is in the Guerrilla Marketing Hall of Fame, the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame, and most recently, the Marketing Hall of Fame. THIS EPISODE IS PERFECT FOR… anyone who feels like we’ve largely lost the human element in our organizations. TODAY’S MAIN MESSAGE… the role of the leader has gotten fuzzy over the years. The key responsibility is not to be the conduit between the stock market and the stock options but to create an environment that is generative and attracts people who can create an impact. WHAT I LOVE MOST… the distinction Seth makes between managers and leaders. He says managers use power and authority to tell people what to do while leaders explore the liminal state between here and there. Being a leader, that’s the difficult part. Empathy in a Post-Pandemic Workplace with Heather McGowan
Welcome to the What's Next! Podcast with Tiffani Bova. This week I’m thrilled to bring you an episode of What’s Next! Podcast with a leading voice on the Future of Work, Heather McGowan. Heather’s groundbreaking approach to learning has made employees more fulfilled and innovative, leaders more potent and empathetic, and businesses more effective at reaching their goals in a rapidly evolving market. Her new book is called The Empathy Advantage, which she wrote with her coauthor, Kris Shipley. THIS EPISODE IS PERFECT FOR… anybody who wants to lead with empathy and infuse it into their culture. TODAY’S MAIN MESSAGE… during the pandemic, we saw a natural rise in empathy in professional settings - we were compassionate, we checked in on each other, we were human - and it worked. We sustained strong performance and economic growth, only seeing a decline in the post-pandemic quarters. Heather digs into what exactly we tapped into during the pandemic and explains why we need to bring that type of empathy back. WHAT I LOVE MOST… the reminder to show empathy toward the leaders we’re expecting it from.
