Paul Johnson: Ultra-Runner, Mental Health Advocate

Paul is serving in the Navy and has turned his mental health struggles into some of the greatest running feats ever completed including running across the United States in 51 days (at about 3 marathons per day) and is currently training to compete in the UTMB which is 106 miles around the French alps at an elevation gain about a mile higher than Mount Everest. It is an honor being able to have this conversation with someone who has been so open about his mental health journey and gives hope to so many others struggling through similar difficult challenges.

He is a globally recognized speaker, teacher, and pioneer in sports psychology and performance. Since 1989, he’s been honing his groundbreaking performance and mindfulness techniques with people from locker rooms to board rooms, Yale to jail — as Phil Jackson’s ‘Secret Weapon’ to winning eight NBA Championships, helping Michael Jordan transform his leadership, and teaching Kobe Bryant to “just be.” George most recently worked with the Edmonton Oilers where many players credited him with helping them almost pull off the greatest comeback in Stanley Cup history.
George’s work incorporates principles based in positive psychology, mindfulness, philosophy, neuroscience, the recovery movement, group and organizational dynamics, and spiritual traditions from around the world, all informed by his own inspirational journey. George’s books The Mindful Athlete and Unlocked have been instrumental in my Mental Performance strategies, and I could not be more grateful to sit down with someone who has not only helped some of the greatest athletes in the world be the best versions of themselves, but also helped me personally do the same. Today we’re sitting down with Marty Gibbons, Marty has been the Head Coach of the Lake Catholic football team for the past 5 years. In his second season as head coach, he led the Cougars to the state finals and is coming off a 10-3 season in 2023. Marty currently teaches Health and PE at Lake Catholic and has also worked as a teacher and coach at VASJ High School, spent a year at Notre Dame College as a Graduate Assistant and started his coaching career at Medina Highland High School. The Ohio State University Football Performance Dietitian: Kaila Olson
Kaila Olson became the The Ohio State University’s football program’s sports dietitian in July of 2019 after serving for two and a half years as a dietetic intern at Ohio State. In her role, Kaila is responsible for assessing players’ nutritional and health needs and developing meal and nutrition plans to help them meet their goals.

4x National Champion, World Champion Wrestler: Logan Stieber
In this episode of The WellSport Podcast, we're sitting down with Logan Stieber, who became an assistant coach for the Buckeyes in 2021, is one of seven wrestlers to win four national titles in the history of NCAA Wrestling. He concluded his Buckeye career with an overall record of 119-3, boasting the highest winning percentage (.975) in school history. Stieber’s historic run through college included a pair of undefeated seasons when he went 27-0 as a sophomore in 2013 and wrapped up his career with a 29-0 senior campaign (2015). After graduating from Ohio State, Stieber made an immediate splash on the international stage as the 2016 World Champion at 61 kilograms. He made the United States’ World Team in 2017 and 2018 as well.

Brendan McCrone is the starting 125 lber at The Ohio State University where he qualified and won a match at the National tournament in his 2023/2024 season. In high school he was a 3x state placer (4x without covid), 1 x runner up and Lake Catholic’s 15th individual state champ.
