The WellSport Podcast George Mumford: Mindfulness Coach for Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Edmonton Oilers
Our next guest on The WellSport Podcast presented by The Golf room is George Mumford, a.k.a. The Performance Whisperer. He is a globally recognized speaker, teacher, and pioneer in sports psychology and performance. Since 1989, he’s been honing his groundbreaking performance and mindfulness techniques with people from locker rooms to board rooms, Yale to jail — as Phil Jackson’s ‘Secret Weapon’ to winning eight NBA Championships, helping Michael Jordan transform his leadership, and teaching Kobe Bryant to “just be.” George most recently worked with the Edmonton Oilers where many players credited him with helping them almost pull off the greatest comeback in Stanley Cup history.
George’s work incorporates principles based in positive psychology, mindfulness, philosophy, neuroscience, the recovery movement, group and organizational dynamics, and spiritual traditions from around the world, all informed by his own inspirational journey. George’s books The Mindful Athlete and Unlocked have been instrumental in my Mental Performance strategies, and I could not be more grateful to sit down with someone who has not only helped some of the greatest athletes in the world be the best versions of themselves, but also helped me personally do the same. I truly hope you enjoy our conversation and learn from one of the greatest minds in the history of sport psychology.
