(ENG) #33 - The Significance of Individualized Medicine and Why Pathological Obsession with Nutrition Will Do More Harm Than Good with Dr. Gil Carvalho, MD, PhD aka Nutrition Made Simple
Good day everyone and thanks for tuning in for another episode on Sapien’s Playground. I am very pleased to be talking to Dr. Gil Carvalho, MD and PhD today and diving as deep as we can manage into the field of individualized medicine.
Gil Carvalho, MD PhD is a physician, research scientist, science communicator, speaker and writer. In the aftermath of graduating from medical school in the University of Lisbon Gil decided to pursue a PhD in Biology from Caltech (California Institute of Technology) and was involved in numerous research areas, including genetics, neuroscience, longevity and more. Over the past few years Gil was heavily engaged in the development of his YouTube Channel called “Nutrition Made Simple” which I would highly recommend checking out for the purpose of attaining information to provide you with the tools necessary to conduct your own investigations in the realm of scientific research. Our conversation today covered mostly Gil’s journey towards becoming an expert at coneying the wisdom of lifestyle medicine to a broader audience via Social Media, YouTube in particular, as well as the important nuances that have to be taken into account speaking of individualized medicine as one of the central concepts and presuppositions which the entire clinical enterprise must be based upon. It was a really fun conversation and I am really looking forward to having Gil on the show next time together with Malcolm Kendrick in order have the discussion on lipids and atherosclerosis alluded to at the end of the podcast .
Enjoy listening!

(ENG) - #31 - Alec Zeck - The Ramifications of Value Imposition, Discovering Our Deepest Motives and Why We Should Be Guided by Exploration
Hello everyone!
I am very pleased and grateful to have the opportunity to talk today with Alec Zeck. Unfortunately, maybe not so much though, I suppose, we didn’t really manage to delve deep into his past and the sorts of transformations which he had undergone during the course of his life. Nonetheless, Alex is a really deep and critical thinker and by having this discussion with him my aim was to get at least a bit closer towards comprehending the motives and beliefs which seem to lie at the bottom of our actions as well as the actions of the people around us. We didn’t delve into any specifics as far as covid measures or anything related to that are concerned but rather attempted to get behind the ideologies that seem to guide some of the behavior that we have watched unfolding over the past years, and in addition to that highlight potential ramifications and dangers which are certainly associated with the idea of strict value imposition on other people at any cost and sometimes just for the sake of keeping the ideology alive. Luckily, apart from spilling out a stream of criticism we also discussed ways that might be useful in at least breaking down the solution of this problem into something like actionable little steps at the base of which has to be situated freedom of speech and one’s personal desire to listen, explore and to question as the fundamental spirit. I hope to be talking to Alec soon again, this was a fascinating conversation.
Enjoy listening! Remember to share if you found it valuable.

(ENG) - #30 – What Causes Heart Disease? Part 2 – With Dr. Malcolm Kendrick – An Alternative Hypothesis of Atherosclerosis and Unresolved Questions
Welcome back! This is part 2 of a conversation I had with the passionate Heart Disease Researcher and Sceptic Dr. Malcolm Kendrick. He is a family physician from Scotland who very early on in his carreer developed an ever-persisting passion and desire to get behind the real pathopysiological mechanisms that underly Atherosclerosis and Heart disease. Malcolm has authored several books like Doctoring Data or his most recent one – The Clot Thickens, he leads a blog on his website https://drmalcolmkendrick.org/ and has published and co-authored quite a significant number of scientific papers many of which were aimed at assessing the controversies and unresolved questions in regards to the pathophysiological processes which fundamentally underlie the biggest killer in the western world.
In the first part of our conversation we were mostly discussing all the facts and evidence pointing against the presumption of LDL, or Apo-B containing lipoproteins, being the number one driving causal factor behind plaque formation which is usually referred to as cardiovascular disease. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite manage to thoroughly discuss Dr. Kendrick’s hypothesis and explanations which he so beautifully lays out in his most recent book and which he established as a result of several decades of constant digging, reading, questioning and exploring for the mere sake of finding something, finding a model that would be incontrovertible, unambiguous and capable of withstanding any criticisms from the other side. A model that would be able to explain virtually every observation and risk factor as far as heart disease is concerned. Now, as far as today's episode goes, apart from deepening our understaing and appreciation of the flaws and shortcomings of the lipid-hypothesis as proposed and acccepted by mainstream medicine, we furthermore start digging deeper into the real pathophysiology behind cardiovascular disease manifesting itself as a heart attack, stroke, etc.
Enjoy the great conversation I had today with Dr. Malcolm Kendrick!

#29 - Essay #2 - Public Denigration, the Precariously Reckless Traps of Ideological Thinking and Free Speech As the Solution
Hello everyone.
Today it's me, Maxim Pruchnewski, recording an audio version of an essay I wrote very recently outlining the essence of a story which occured in a surprising way to me in medical school and which, more importantly, highlighted the dangers associated with ideology together with the domain of personal belief entering the domain of science and possibly yielding undoubtedly unpleasant ramifications, as far as the persistence and firmness of inherently divine conceptualizations like freedom of speech or individual sovereignty as the paramount valus in western civilization are concerned.
Feel free to share this around because I wholeheartedly hope that this will reach many people and make them at least look at this issue with a critical eye. There are things we absolutely have to apprehend, otherwise things are doomed to go haywire. This shall not further divide us and perpetuate the hatred, suffering and malevolence. Truth, honest speech and approaching people with a spirit of appreciation of their inherent individual sovereignty and dignity are the antidotes to this predicament.
Much Peace and Love,
Maxim

(ENG) - #28 - Frank Bohne - About Farming Practices, the Value of Organ Meats and His Mental and Physical Health Transformation Moving From Vegan to Animal-Based Nutrition
Welcome back and thanks very much for tuning in once again!
I was extremely excited for inviting my friend Frank Bohne from Vermont onto Sapiens Playground and diving as deep as we were intellectually able to into his personal health story. Frank works on an animal farm in Vermont and was not hesitant at all to share his experience having worked on different kinds of farms and to tell us in great detail about the insights which he discovered as a result of working on plant vs. animal farms, as well as all the lessons he learned during that process. Apart from discussing the justifications, applications but also concerns that arise when it comes to plant farms, even organic vegetable farms that Frank used to work on, we delved even deeper into his past.
I was particularly interested in the physical and mental transformation which he had undergone going from vegan to animal-based. Frank is a super nice, open-minded and humble human being who has a fascinating story to share and who went through the painful and taxing process of gradual health destruction and experienced vividly what it means to be riddled with disease and psychological suffering. He transcended his previous physical and mental condition and was ultimately able to defeat this horrible chaos, come out braver, stronger, humbler and with an additional sense of genuine compassion for anyone who is yet to find himself or herself in a state of terrible suffering, much as he has been confronted with for a vastly large portion of his adolescent life and his mid-twenties. I’m more than grateful to have had the honor and opportunity to receive such personal insights from his narrations and am sure that this will be of just as tremendous value to every single one of you as it was to me.
In short summary, we discussed farming practices, diet, organ meats, how to conduct oneself properly in the face of uncomfortable conversations, accusations and haters. There was much more going on, hence it’s no bloody wonder that we ended up talking for more than 2 hours.
Enjoy our conversations and share this with a friend if you found it meaningful and useful information!

(ENG) - #27 - Wild Quetzal About Food Ethics, Ideological Traps, Diet Dogma and His Path Through the Landscape of Disagreements in Conceptualizing "Natural Human Diet"
Hello friend, and welcome back to the show! I am very delighted to be back talking with another guest on Sapiens Playground. The conversation I had today with Quetzal, @wildquetzal on Instagram, was a particularly inspiring one as we primarily attempted to get behind the ethical considerations, as far as diet and food choices are concerned, and the ultimate implications that this might have on the way you look at the world and, moreover, how you approach interactions with other individuals, especially with those who are in stringent disagreement and opposition to whatever argument you are attempting to bring forward.
Quetzal has, as frequently characteristic for enthusiasts in the health community, a personal story to tell which very nicely displays the severity and magnitude of physical and mental transformation that he had to undergo in order to arrive at the place in which he currently finds himself assisting others in remembering who they have always been as humans and how to integrate specific habits and forms of behaviour into their lives to not only achieve optimal well-being but also experience the delicate balance that comes along with this sort of transformation.
This conversation went very well, as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately, we did not manage to delve deeper into the specific characteristics of his diet and lifestyle, however, I am sure that in the near future an opportunity will present itself to continue and broaden our discussion, further develop and consolidate the ideas and sort things out more sophisticatedly to help ourselves and other people to develop a clearer and more accurate understanding of the profundity, significance and applicability of these sorts of topics.
Enjoy our conversation!

(ENG) - #25 - Spirit of Exploration, Questioning Everything, Atherosclerosis & Cholesterol and Dodging Nutritional Dogma - My Appearance on the Highest Health Podcast with Natasha Dasaro
Welcome back!
Recently, I had the honor to be invited to the Highest Health Podcast which is hosted by Natasha Dasaro. I very much appreciate her giving me that opportunity and enough space to really go very deep into the pathophysiological processes underlying atherosclerosis, ultimately leading to heart disease. After ellaborating on the things which clearly do not make much sense to me in the lipid hypothesis of atherosclerosis, I go on presenting an alternative hypothesis, which should not be regarded to as an entirely new hypothesis since there is actually a lot of evidence backing up all these underlying processes.
Over the course of the conversation I extensively keep referring to the work of Dr. Malcolm Kendrick because he was clearly very influential when it comes to the way my perception of atherosclerosis has evolved over the years. In the second part we discuss the things that would probably have the greatest impact on reducing heart disease and thus prolonging your life.
It's been great to talk with Natasha on the Highest Health Podcast, so make sure to check out some of the other episodes on her podcast! Enjoy listening and I am sure that this will be of some great value to everyone who has an interest in optimizing health and loves diving really deep into topics.
