#144 Launch Retrospectives with Becky Rubenstein

Launch Series #5What’s the best way to get the lessons learned from a launch and have an actionable improvement plan for next time? Answer: a retrospective. Retrospectives are meetings held after a launch to discuss what happened internally during the launch planning, release, and promotional phases. If you run an online business and are bringing together a team for product, event or course launches, retrospectives are a crucial opportunity to get everyone together in the same Zoom room to discuss what happened. If you’re hiring and working with remote freelancers—people who are independent thinkers and prioritize flexible schedules—it's especially important to create a work culture of open communication, honesty, and continuous improvement.I’m here with guest Becky Rubenstein to wrap up my Launch series on Unicorns Unite with a very important element of a successful launch: the Retrospective or debrief.Becky is a brand strategist and content creator who believes work should be meaningful and human-centered.After recovering from corporate burnout, Becky launched a freelance business helping women-led entrepreneurs and organizations tell their stories so they can build the businesses of their dreams. She also helps solopreneurs ready to scale create healthy remote team processes.Becky shares how retrospectives benefit business owners and their teams. Tune in to this episode and learn how to:Increase team productivity by 25%Create a culture of open communication, honesty, and continuous improvementBuild trust and better working relationships with remote teams of freelancersIf you're following my grassroots approach and you’re working your way up to Launch Manager, launch retrospectives are another powerful tool you can bring to the table to help your client reach their business goals while you embrace a leadership role. #137 Why You Must Always Charge for Your Services

Listen up virtual assistants, creative specialists, and marketing mavens, always charge for your services. Today I’m sharing a couple of real-life stories where giving away “free” services actually backfired for these service providers.  This is an important lesson to learn, especially if you’re new in business when your reputation is at stake. I’ll also help you find ways to thank referrals without giving away free hours. To be a viable, sustainable freelance business, you have to pay attention to your profits and where you’re spending your billable time. Free doesn't make you money. Plus, we really don’t want you to resent your client work or your business down the road. Also, pay attention to the one thing you can do to combat the freebie expectation from well-meaning friends, family, peers and acquaintances. This tactic works every time You will never do free work again.    Announcement: The Digital Marketing Workgroup is closing for the year. This is your chance to get in with a freelancer community and be a part of the behind-the-scenes conversations, encouragement, and troubleshooting that we all need when we’re working solo. We also have advanced trainings, networking opportunities, and job leads. #136 Discovery Calls for Virtual Assistants with Tracie Patterson

Does the thought of a discovery call make your palms sweat? Have you had a few and wish you had done better?  Discovery calls are relationship builders.  Projecting confidence is a learned skill anyone can master — without much effort — and even as an introvert or behind-the-scenes queen.  In this episode, I’ve asked Tracie Patterson, a sales coach and offer specialist, to give us tips we can apply on our next discovery calls so we feel more in control and confident. Her specialty is selling yourself without being salesy. She'll teach us how to listen during the discovery call so you can build trust and connections.
