Episode 37: Brad Smeele (Pro wakeboarder turned quadraplegic, now best-selling author)
Brad Smeele was one of the first guests on the podcast (episode 4, March 2022). He now becomes the first guest I've had on twice. The first episode with Brad is one that I still get messages about most weeks. I think this conversation will be just as impactful. So many lessons in here and a look inside his best selling book which has just come out, "Owning it." Its a great book- I read the entire thing (and its a big-ass book). Brad wrote the whole thing, all 500,000 words using a mouth stylus and tapping on his iPhone screen woodpecker style. Its a mind blowing achievement.Hope you guys enjoy Brads company as much as I do. 36: Chanel Harris-Tavita
Chanel Harris-Tavita is a 24 year old rugby league player for the Warriors- he's bloody good, too! Last weekend (Saturday September 3) he played his final game for the Warriors against the Gold Coast Titans at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland. He made a decision earlier this year to have a break for the sport that has brought him money and fame and is also the only career he has known. He's not calling it retirement. He's not ruling out a future return. But he has no idea of what his 2023 will look like, other than it will include travelling and journalling. Its scary...but also bloody exciting. He's a fascinating guy and I really hope you guys like this conversation.DomCheck out his blog: simplelessons.com Hosted on Acast. 35: Victoria Taylor
Very exciting day for Victoria Taylor. At 4am this morning (September 1, 2022) she will start her attempt to beat the official world record for running the length of NZ, a record that has stood since 1975. To claim the record, she will havew to run about three full marathons every day for 18 days. Just let that sink in for a second....around 126km per day for 18 days! Its a mindblowing thing to attempt. What makes this attempt even more remarkable is she is the mum of a two year old so has done most of her training pushing him in a stroller. She knows what she is in for though, ten years ago when she was 19 she ran the length of NZ in 34 days.Follow her socials to follow her progress:FB: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100071705915836IG: nzrun2022Give-a-little: https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/nz-run-for-mental-health?fbclid=IwAR1OTtrdkzkaywXO4eLpvq1V-oZYK87rX77xPHU4FZLdpwWiEADcz73_x7Y Hosted on Acast. 34: Matthew Ridge
Matthew Ridge is a New Zealand sporting and Television celebrity who most Kiwis probably have an opinion about, whether they have met him or not.He was a tennis champion during his teens. Then switched to rugby and briefly made the All Blacks before switching to rugby league where he made a name for himself as one of the most gifted and highest paid players in the world. After retiring from sport he enjoyed more success as a TV star and half of an incredibly successful comedy duo with Marc Ellis.Despite living so much of his life on TV and in magazines, Matthew is a relatively private person these days so it was a real honour to sit down with him for a conversation about many different aspects of his life- sports, fame, love, divorce, parenthood, legal troubles, drugs, reputation and much much more.Hope you guys like this one. Thanks for listening.Dom Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

33: Rhys Darby (Actor and comedian)
Thrilled to be sharing this episode with you guys. Rhys Darby!I really loved doing this one. I'd say we have chatted 15times for short radio interviews over the years so this was a first. Lots of big laughs, as you'd expect from Rhys, but also lots of really good insightful chat. It was good to peel back those hilarious top few layers and get a little glimpse into the man behind that voice, those jokes, those movies, those international commercials, etc. Rhys is a New Zealand treasure so it was surreal having him round at my place sitting in my podcast studio (spare room) to share stories about his incredible life.Hope you guys enjoy this one. 32: Leo Molloy (Infamous hospitality identity with political aspirations)
Many New Zealander over a certain age probably remember an iconic student bar called The Fat Ladies Arms. That was the brain child of Leo Molly in the early 1990s in Palmerston North. That is when we became friends. Since then Leo has ridden the extreme highs and lows of hospitality with resturants and bars including Euro, Cowboys, Headquarters and Cardiac (Which sent him bankrupt). At the time of releasing this, Leo has just announced that he is pulling out of the race to be the next Mayor of Auckland (This chat was recorded earlier in the year and we talk about pretty much everything EXCEPT for politics). This was a fun conversation- if you've never heard of Leo you'll get to learn about the life of one of New Zealands great characters. If you have a pre concevied idea of who Leo is, this may change your opinion (or not LOL).Dom Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
