31: Sophie Devine (NZ sporting legend- Cricket AND hockey)

Sophie Devine is pretty much NZ sporting royalty (She will squirm big time at that sentence!).She’s played hockey for NZ and she is currently the captain of the White Ferns cricket team.  She made her first class debut at 14 and has been in the national side since she was 17 (she’s 32 now). She’s a bloody laugh and I loved our chat.  She was 100% open and honest about a terrifying breakdown she experienced that saw her walk away from the game she loves until she felt ready to return.  We also talk about living with diabetes, her really-reaaly long distance relationship, playing in all boys teams as a kid and loads more. Theres a fair bit of cricket chat in here.  But shes such a good story teller that it is all pretty good stuff.Follow Sophie on IG:  @Sophd77This podcast has been brought to you by Arepa. It’s a high performance brain drink made right here in Aoteroa with blackcurrent and bark (definitely can't taste the bark though....its yum as).If you go to Drinkarepa.com you can use the discount code DOM20 for a 20% discount (August 2022).  Hosted on Acast. 28:Andrea Hansen (nee Hewitt) NZ triathlon legend

On the day this episode released, Andrea had just competed in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.  At the age of 40 and with a toddler, it may be the last time we ever see this triathlon legend wearing the black lycra. We talk about her incredible career spanning almost 2 decades, how she stayed fit during her recent pregnancy, giving birth WHILE nursing a broken arm, the time she finished a triathalon after breaking her collarbone, the sudden death of her partner in France a few years back and much more.Shes pretty shy and modest so talking about herself is not something that comes easy to Andrea.  With that in mind, I really appreciate her making the time to sit down to chat.Hope you guys enjoy it.    Hosted on Acast.
