#139 How to Monetize Your Personal Brand & Influence: Strategies to Get Started

If you’re wondering “How can I make money with my personal brand?” – you’re not alone. One of the most common questions I get asked when it comes to personal branding is how to monetize your brand and influence. While it may be easy to think that influencers with large follower counts are making a killing (insider secret: most aren’t), and that you’d need a large audience in order to make money from your presence (you don’t!), the truth is, monetization is really about strategy.  What does that mean for you? Wherever you are right now in your personal branding journey, you can monetize your personal brand, add new revenue streams to existing ones, or at the very least start thinking strategically about how you would like to get started.   Monetization is not one size fits all, and in this week’s solo episode of Beyond Influential, I’ll walk you through the general categories that pretty much all monetization strategies fall under and how to approach idea generation so you can find and focus on the ones that work best for you!   On Ep. 139, I talk about: Why monetization is not the place to start on your personal brand journey How being clear on your personal brand and your target audience is essential to making money from your influence The three-bucket approach to monetization strategies & how to use them for your brand Why your audience size doesn’t limit your ability to monetize successfully My favorite exercise to help you brainstorm the best money-making ideas for your personal brand, plus a detailed example of how to approach it to get you started!   Don't want to miss an episode (or valuable free resources!)? #138 How To Grow Your Email List Using Social Media with Amy Porterfield & Jasmine Star (Online Marketing Made Easy Podcast)

If you have any interest in online marketing strategies, creating digital courses, selling with webinars, or growing your email list… you KNOW the name Amy Porterfield. I don’t think I’ve met anyone in the business of online education who hasn’t actively listened to (and taken notes from) her Online Marketing Made Easy Podcast and/or taken one of her signature programs.⁣ For context, I met Amy at a dinner in spring 2018 at a time when I knew I had a valuable skill set—being able to build successful personal brands online—but I was over trading time for money and knew there had to be a way to package my knowledge. ⁣Amy’s Courses That Convert (which has evolved into Digital Course Academy) was the first online course I actually “took.”  ⁣I want to give credit where credit is due, and Amy’s content not only helped me pivot my business model, but it also changed my perception of the online education industry. Online education could be incredibly valuable, actionable, and high quality, and it set the bar for the standards I now keep. ⁣I used her framework to build my first course, The LinkedIn Laws, and I have been successfully scaling my business since that time. And that brings us full circle to this week’s Beyond Influential, because I had the very big honor earlier this year of being featured on Amy’s Online Marketing Made Easy Podcast, where I shared my best tips on how to grow your email list using LinkedIn, and today, I’m excited to share that episode with you! Having an amazing product or service is all well and good, but without having an audience to sell it to, you will have to put in a lot more effort into getting the word out. You can spend time trying to sell directly on social media platforms, but a much more reliable and effective way to market your products is using something you own, namely your email list. An email list allows you to get in front of your audience without fighting the algorithm or relying on a platform that is outside your control and that could disappear on you overnight. This episode also features incredibly valuable (and practical!) Instagram list-building strategies from Instagram expert for entrepreneurs (and Ep. 53 BI guest) Jasmine Star, as well as Amy’s most effective tactics for Facebook!  Even if you don’t currently have an email list, it’s easy to get started. This episode covers why you must have your own email list, lead magnets and other ways to get people to join your list, tips and best practices to grow your list using LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, and more!   Don't want to miss an episode (or valuable free resources!)? #137 Ivirlei Brookes on Reinventing Yourself, Going Viral, and Staying True to Your Vision

Are you prepared for the success you say you want?  Going viral is something a lot of entrepreneurs wish for, but when it actually happens, they aren’t prepared for the potential highs and lows that come with it. Even if you have been working for years as a pro in your industry, virality and extreme audience growth overnight can bring with it unforeseen challenges (but also opportunities!). And speaking of virality, what if you go viral for something not directly related to your business? Success is not linear and you have to write your own story. On this week’s episode of Beyond Influential, I sit down with Ivirlei Brookes, who has reinvented herself several times over her career and continues to evolve. She has been everything from a Hitch-style dating coach to starting her own magazine and is now a mindset coach and mentor for female creative entrepreneurs.   Ivirlei received massive attention from the media, as well as celebrities and influencers, after her emotional and informational Instagram Live video, White Women who Truly Want to Help: Here’s How, went viral in June after the murder of George Floyd. However, while this video has brought a lot of attention to her brand, her business is not built around anti-racism education. We talk about how she has focused on staying true to herself and her vision for her brand and business in the face of increased visibility. We discuss the importance of staying true to your brand and not letting other people’s expectations define you, as well as reinventing oneself, and redirecting the conversation in a  way that serves your community.  On Ep. 137, we cover: Why you shouldn’t be afraid to reinvent yourself Breaking through the limiting beliefs that are holding you back Valuing your work and charging what you’re worth Unexpected outcomes of virality: the good, the bad, and the ugly Why self-awareness and staying true to yourself is critical to finding success Developing a healthy mindset: tips to get started, and more!   Don't want to miss an episode (or valuable free resources!)? #136 Personal Brand Mindset: How to Overcome Content Creation Roadblocks

Have you ever written a piece of social media content, agonizing over every word, just to delete it all and start over (possibly more than once)? Or just save it in your drafts because you don’t think it’s “good” enough?  If you just said yes, you’re not alone. Mental roadblocks during the content creation process—everything from perfectionism to imposter syndrome to fear of criticism—are a very common issue for many creators and entrepreneurs. How do you move past them? It starts by recognizing them and then digging deep to figure out what exactly is standing in your way (and why). I always say personal branding is personal, and one of the biggest (and most frequent) obstacles standing in the way of building the brand of your dreams, might just be you. In this short and sweet Beyond Influential solo episode inspired by a recent Tweet, I’m talking about triggers, content creation fears, and how to overcome them.  In this episode, I cover: Evaluating your triggers: how to look inward and move past them How perfectionism can lead to a fear of content creation Basics aren’t “basic”: Why “profound" content shouldn’t be your ultimate goal Checking your ego: Why judging other people may actually be holding you back Why your specific audience is the key to content creation success Why you need to ignore others’ opinions of you if you want to achieve your goals, & more! Are you ready to take the (now) virtual stages with confidence?   Now that life has largely moved to the online space, being able to present and communicate your message in a compelling and engaging way to your audience is more important than ever.  This week’s Beyond Influential is one I intentionally wanted to re-release, not only for those who might have missed it the first time around, but also because it is very relevant today in a new way.  Public speaking is not about being on a physical stage anymore, and it’s not just for those who want to be professional speakers; this is a transferable skill set for any brand and business. Delivering your message so people actually pay attention is critical whether you’re on a Zoom call, on Instagram Stories, or as a podcast guest.  Heather Sager is a speaking coach who helps busy entrepreneurs structure their ideas, clarify their message and hone their speaking skills so they deliver knockout live presentations, videos, workshops that help them sell. I’ve really gotten to know Heather since our interview, and if you haven’t checked out my interview on The Heather Sager Show, you can find the link below.  This episode is really worth a (re)listen to hear these tips and insights through the lens of public speaking being virtual communication of your message and not physically getting on a stage.    On this episode, we cover: How to get better thinking on your feet (highly relevant for any live situation!) What makes a compelling presentation and how to develop one Why being specific in your feedback is important & Heather’s 3:1 critique ratio Getting comfortable on stage: How to improve your stage presence & body language On-camera presentations vs. in-person – how are they different? What you need to do (and not do) before a presentation & more! >> And if you’re interested in learning how to live stream and create videos with confidence for your business, Heather is doing a training for the Beyond Influential Insiders on it! #133 From 5-Figure Debt to 5-Figure Months: Jen Morilla on the Truth About Monetizing Your Passion & Influence

Whether intentional or not, influencers in the online space often make their lives look aspirational and effortless. Whether it’s gaining followers or making money, the lifestyle may appear “easy,” but while the job does come with some exciting highs, it also brings with it behind-the-scenes lows.  We see so many bloggers, content creators, coaches, online experts, and gurus painting the online space as your escape from the corporate world, but they fail to mention that it’s not always sunshine and roses. Just like any other line of work, being an influencer and working with brands can be challenging, and also not necessarily scalable, which is why I’m excited to have Jen Morilla back this week to give us the honest truth!  If you don’t know Jen, she was my first guest ever on Beyond Influential, Episode 1, where we talked about her life as a full-time, impact-driven travel influencer under the brand name The Social Girl Traveler. (You might also remember her from Ep. 131 on our biggest business mistakes with Christina Galbato!) Over the last three years, a lot has changed and evolved in her brand and business…Jen is now an online business expert, mentoring women who want to create and scale impact-driven businesses online, and she is not holding back on sharing her story.  In this week’s episode, Jen joins me again to talk about the low points in her journey as an entrepreneur, including admissions she has never made publicly before (and most influencers would never admit!). From a relentless travel and content creation schedule, to getting into five figures of debt and nearly giving up, to climbing out of the hole, finding success, and making thousands a month from her online courses and coaching, Jen walks us through her story since that first conversation we had back in the Fall of 2017, and shares the insights she’s picked up along the way. If you need a little motivation, this conversation might be just the thing you need to keep pushing through the challenges! On Ep. 133, we cover:  The behind-the-scenes struggles of the travel blogger & influencer lifestyle  The potential pitfalls of monetizing your passion: burnout, mental health & mindset issues How Jen got herself into $23,000 of debt as an influencer, developed a healthy money mindset, and the action steps she took to get herself out of the red Business coaching: the new MLM? Investing in business mentors & how to pick the right one for you  What most online coaches & influencers won’t share about their “massive” business  results & more!   Don't want to miss an episode (or valuable free resources!)? Get on my list here: https://www.brittanykrystle.com/subscribe   If you enjoy this episode, I also highly encourage you to check out Ep. 131, Biggest Mistakes & Lessons Learned as Entrepreneurs with both Jen & Christina Galbato for more behind the scenes about the reality of influence as a business.  https://www.brittanykrystle.com/the-biggest-mistakes-lessons-learned-as-entrepreneurs-with-jen-morilla-christina-galbato/ For more about Jen, her mission, and why she’s so impact driven, check out Ep 1, Jen Morilla, The Social Girl Traveler on Finding Brand Deals, Influencer Life & Full-Time Travelhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/1-jen-morilla-social-girl-traveler-on-finding-brand/id1264581842 And if you want to hear even more from Jen and check out her training she presented live for the Beyond Influential Insiders on How to Create and Launch Your First Digital Product, you can head to https://www.brittanykrystle.com/insiders for all the info.   Other Helpful Links: Get on the waitlist to know when the doors to the Beyond Influential Insiders open again! https://www.brittanykrystle.com/insiders/ Want to support the podcast (for Free!)? #132 Frannie Coggeshall on Growing Your Business 10x Faster with Facebook and Instagram Ads

Are you currently running ads to grow your business on Facebook and Instagram?  If you are not, or you’re on the fence, this Beyond Influential episode may change your mind. (And if you are, you’ll likely learn something new like I did!) Some popular reasons you might not be running ads include not knowing where to start, being intimidated by the Facebook ads platform, and the endless questions from whether you should be boosting your posts to how big a budget you should have to know if ads are working. Or maybe you’re thinking, “Why pay for advertising when you are getting results for ‘free’?”  There are some entrepreneurs out there who will brag about their organic marketing sales numbers on Instagram and Facebook, but let’s talk about the growth those folks are missing out on by not using Facebook’s paid advertising platform strategically.  On this week’s Beyond Influential, Facebook and Instagram Ads expert, Frannie Coggeshall, gives us a look behind the scenes of running an ads agency, plus inside tips on setting yourself up for success with ads. Frannie is the founder of Elevate Her Marketing, an agency that supports female online course creators in growing their businesses 10x faster than they could on their own through full-service Facebook & Instagram ads management. Whether you want to hear about what you really need to focus on when running ads, how to build out your ads strategy, or just some truth bombs about running an agency and building a team, this episode is for you.   If you have been playing with the idea of running an ad campaign, or you’re curious about what it’s like to transition from a 9-5 to living in another country while running your own business…be sure to listen in to hear how Frannie has made this happen!  On Ep. 132, we cover:  Frannie’s entrepreneurship journey: How she left behind the NYC grind and found freedom by building a location-independent ads agency  How Frannie got crystal clear on her business vision, her ideal clientele & the realities and risks of running a business based on a single platform   Remote Team-Building: How she hires, onboards, and sets expectations in a work-from-anywhere world Facebook Ads Trends: How she and her agency keep up with the latest updates & her go-to resources for staying on top of the game! The importance of brand clarity & why you need a deep understanding of your customers to run ads effectively The Facebook algorithm: How it works, why “targeting” isn’t as important for ads results as most people think, and more! #131 The Biggest Mistakes & Lessons Learned as Entrepreneurs with Jen Morilla & Christina Galbato

Have you ever freaked out about a mistake you’ve made in your business and had to call on your business besties to get you through it? There is no “perfect” in entrepreneurship and you need to have people you trust around you who will give it to you straight (and also hype you up when you need it!). Let’s face it, it’s not a matter of will a mistake happen, but rather when will a mistake happen and how do I recover!  On this week’s episode, I want to share a raw and real conversation with the two women I reach out to when I need a business gut check, my girls Jen Morilla and Christina Galbato. We’ve been supporting each other behind the scenes for a while, sharing our mishaps, “oh sh*t” moments, and our fair share of fear-inducing Zoom calls, text messages, and voice memos that we work through together.  Episode 131 is a true behind-the-scenes—no sugarcoating—where we dive into everything from how we break past our perfectionism to learning to embrace all aspects of the journey. We unpack the lessons we’ve learned the hard way around monetizing, building our brands, building our teams, building our businesses, making friends in the space… you name it! Get ready to sit in on a few business girlfriends chatting about how we support each other in business through failures and wins!   On Ep. 131, we cover:  Our biggest mistakes & lessons learned as online entrepreneurs Why mistakes are critical to growing your business How to avoiding the comparison trap and obsessing over followers count Overcoming the desire to get it “perfect”  Lessons learned around launches and offering products Making true friendships in the online space (even with those who are your competitors) The importance of patience when it comes to growing your business, and more!
