Jameson Taylor: Rules of Engagement
Mary welcomes back Jameson Taylor of American Family Association to continue our focus this week on engaging the culture, for the common good. While the gatekeepers change, the rules of engagement do not: the Bible as the moral authority for every human who ever lived. Today we shine a light on some of the important issues. Speaking of the rulebook, we chat about Texas and Oklahoma’s reintroduction of the Bible into public education. Bold and likely to be framed as forcing our worldview on others, there is no forcing, considering we as believers have been enduring the worldly worldview our entire lives. It’s more of a skirmish in a much wider war. We discuss discourse in the face of marketplace vitriol from those who want to be self-ruled; Costco’s decision not to distribute the abortion pill; and some activity in the Wisconsin legislature. We can never be over-equipped in a world that still needs to figure out what a woman is.

Natasha Crain: Culture and the Common Good
Mary welcomes back Natasha Crain to talk culture – and define it in light of Jesus’ words in John 15:18. What do we mean when we say culture? And why would Jesus tell us they will hate us, unless they know what we believe? Natasha’s current book, “When Culture Hates You” is a clear and articulate look at a very timely subject as Christians find themselves more and more in the crosshairs of 2025 culture, which is different from 1958 culture, which might be varied in 2030, should the Lord tarry. What are the rules of engagement? Soup kitchens, alternative lifestyles, abortion? Who is to say what the rules are today in light of the killing of Charlie Kirk? Making sense of the hostility and moving about society armed with an understanding of the true nature of light vs dark is an important conversation today, and loving the people around us who do not know Jesus, how do we advocate for the common good? We talk about the gatekeepers in society and what it takes to be admitted – or shut out – of the public square.

Headlines: Your Words Against Mine
Today, Tim and Mary take a break from the current loop of a news cycle and focus on words – they matter. Pastor Claude Stauffer, a frequent guest on Stand Up wrote a post last week entitled “Words Matter” – and the more we thought about it, and the Word made flesh, the more we came to realize just how significant last week’s events have become. What does the Bible say about a world full of words – both lies and truth? About the tongue in James 3? About Gamaliel’s wisdom in Acts 5? There are so many ways we can take what happened and sharpen our witness, become more soberminded about our social media presence, and give God an opportunity to work among us based on HIS word, not man’s word. Man’s word shapes every cult and false teaching. Satan said “Hath God said?” by Genesis 3. And so much more we can say about this. Join us for a biblical take on our current dilemma of too many words, and sin is not far behind. (Prov 10:19) Let’s choose our words carefully, to give life to the hearer.

Ken Ham: Like a Fire in My Bones
Mary welcomes Ken Ham to the podcast to talk about 50 years of impact through Answers in Genesis. From the start of his life in Queensland, Australia, Ken was surrounded by parents and grandparents who modeled service and an uncompromising love for truth centered around God’s Word. Sometimes our testimony is a series of divinely orchestrated events that get us on the same page with God, other times it’s a pivotal moment. Either way, who can doubt that it’s miraculous, and Ken’s story truly is, from the beginning! From science teacher to AiG, God has had His purposes and plans for one of the most enduring and effective apologetics ministries of modern times. We talk about his youth in Australia, the birth of AiG, coming to American shores, and the Creation Museum project. We learn of experiences both high and low in engaging the culture and standing firm for truth that has made the AiG worldview so eternally effective. The book is “Miraculous! The Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis Story”, which can be found here.

Shawn Weber: Training Up a Child in a Screen Age
Shawn Weber
Today’s FRESH NEW PODCAST: Dave Wager talks with sixth-grade math teacher and former youth pastor Shawn Weber about schooling, home life, and a child’s heart. Using Proverbs 22:6 as the anchor, they dig into respect in the classroom, impulsivity driven by screens, and how parents can model leadership at home. Shawn explains why he serves in public schools, how Christian teachers quietly witness by the way they live, and how students can respectfully ask faith-forward questions. Dave urges parents to pray for teachers, speak with grace, and partner with the school instead of swiping people the way we swipe apps.
Practical helps fill the hour. Ask better questions after school, not “What did you do?” but “Show me what you’re working on.” Let kids teach you what they learned, set short, consistent homework routines, and use bedtime review to lock in memory. Keep AI in its place. Learning is the struggle that forms character, not outsourcing the answer. Aim for feedback, not judgment, when you look at grades. Above all, remember the path is about loving God, walking with Him, and helping your child grow in wisdom as you walk it together.

Chris Quintana: Retiring to Bedlam – Distress of Nations with Perplexity
Mary welcomes back Bible teacher Chris Quintana to get a grip on the times. When people say, “get a grip”, what do they mean? Getting a grip on reality in 2025 includes really pausing to see things for what they are. The waves of the sea tossing, with a side of perplexity suggests that God is backing the world into a corner and they are not seeing a way out. What does this look like then? We talk about the chaos that leads to global change, in a number of categories. When Dickens had his beloved Scrooge say, “I’ll retire to bedlam”, what did that mean? Back in the 13th century, there was a hospital in London for the insane called Bethlehem Hospital, shortened to “Bedlam”. When Scrooge was talking to Bob Cratchit about Christmas and the “insanity” of celebrating anything, being merry, when he didn’t have two shillings to rub together – that was “insanity”. Scrooge further implied that if he were to do that, find himself happy outside of his wealth, he would willingly have himself committed – “retire to Bedlam”. This showed his priorities over everything, including people. The craziness in this world, it is not going anywhere. We talk about the technocrats, rich tech engineers who do see the chaos in the world’s systems, and believe that the order that tech brings, and control over everything and everyone, will bring order. We look at various other crises and the answers the world gives to the chaos. A fascinating hour with an articulate man.

Bill Wilson: Moments of Truth
Mary welcomes back Bill Wilson of The Daily Jot to pull the curtain back on some inconvenient truths – inconvenient for those who don’t like truth telling, anyway. In the aftermath of yesterday’s shocking headline of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, sometimes the bedrock of truth will go head to head with wickedness and a high price is paid. Worldviews clash daily in these times, but embedded in the series of decisions that were made to take this man’s life over ideology is the true definition of “crossing the rubicon” – and America will take a long time to recover from this, if we do. Today we also discuss the the political polarization fallout of the Sars/Cov pandemic, accompanied by the general declining trust in public health measures that followed, along with more intense political division. If it only took a couple weeks for Fauci and his ilk to shut our country down, why has it taken an additional 4 years to finish a thought on the scam of the century? Well, there are those who are finally getting around to spelling it out. We also chat about lawfare against Trump’s agenda, Senator Tim Kaine’s radical views, and the myth of the Palestinian State. Set for September 22, the UN is continuing to push hard for that unknown state for an unknown people (see, “terrorists”). But Trump has disallowed visas for Mahmoud Abbas and 80 of his closest friends in terror. Now what? Well, change of venue perhaps. Stay tuned. A full hour with a prophecy watcher and journalist.

Headlines: Postcards from the Edge
Another news cycle, another opportunity to convey the lateness of the hour – and the lunacy that goes with that. That time is short is so painfully obvious, because at what point does even tech outpace that Revelation 13 scenario? Living on the edge of history has its advantages – namely, it keeps us on our toes and the edge of our seats all at the same time. Now, if AI genius of the day Peter Thiel is delivering lectures on the antichrist, it might be time to look up. When quakes and volcanoes threaten “global winter”, it might be time to look up. When persecution and the Middle East heat up hot as the fires of judgment, it might be time to look up. The point of all of it? Look up! Our redemption is nigh and people are on the edge of sanity it would seem. More news cycle and more mayhem awaits, but it’s all good. Take us home, Lord.

Testimony Tuesday: Bruce Carroll – State of the Art
Mary welcomes Bruce Carroll to the podcast to talk about his story, his life, his art. Bruce is a quintessential musician and artist in every facet. We talk about his early years, how they formed who he is, coming from a broken home. Becoming a Christian was the farthest thing from his thoughts, like most of us. One thread that runs through every testimony from his age group is a love of music, as though that was bound to be part of our lives. How did music enter into his day to day, what was he able to build upon to become such an iconic singer songwriter in the church? We talk about the Grammys, Dove Awards, touring, record contracts, parenting, and grandparenting. Bruce is a compassionate lover of truth, and a true blessing to the church; his heart for people comes through in all he does. We also talk about the point at which the church became an inward-looking entity instead of outward. What was the Apostle Paul’s answer to a selfish church? “Have nothing to do with them.” An insightful hour with one of the great songwriters of our generation.

Replay – Chris Quintana, Kyle Peart, Flynn Huseby: An Urgent Faith; Israel, and a Restraining Force
[Original airdate: 9/6/24] On today’s podcast we chat with Chris Quintana, Kyle Peart and Flynn Huseby live in the studio. Up for discussion is the urgency of the gospel and bringing hope to as many as possible while the church is still able to speak clearly and uncompromisingly. Two things that await every human are death and standing before God. One hundred years from now, all that will be important is, who is in heaven with us? While there may come a time when we can no longer communicate the truth openly, our neighbors and friends need to hear. Kyle and Flynn have a heart for the lost and through their ministry, Once Lost Ministries, they contend for the faith with clarity and zeal. Then we look at Israel and the latest headlines there with Chris who has a thorough understanding of Israel and her place in prophecy.
