Today Mary brings her testimony to the table on our 2nd Testimony Tuesday. While every testimony is a series of divine appointments and God’s revelation to the heart of someone, Mary has a historical context to widen the scope of God’s providential ways. Tracing events from her great-grandmother to today, we see that God’s ways are truly not ours. In the 2nd half of the podcast, we take a look at Malachi 3 and 4 and some of the most beautiful verses in the entire Bible. We talk about the books of God, and how our tears are recorded, showing us a God Who has great care and compassion for us. Once we get to the end of Malachi 4, prophetic utterances from God come to a halt, and we don’t pick up the redemption story until Matthew 1, and a new epoch arrives with a song of “glory to God in the highest”. What happened in that time frame? A lot, as we shall see, as we place it in historical context. A full hour looking at some of the more lovely things about this God we serve, in awe and wonder. Tim and Mary look at the news cycle, and are forced to conclude that something deep inside the culture has snapped. How else are we to think when saying “bacon” is a crime? And California wants to pass a child trafficking bill that isn’t what you would think it is, and forget the blood moons, we have a much bigger problem, Houston. It’s not that this massive comet that could wipe out all life on earth is actually going to hit our fair planet, it’s the media spin and fear mongering that is going to occupy our minds. It doesn’t matter if it’s an actual threat anyway, kind of like bacon.  We talk a bit about AI, and flag burning – also not a story you  might expect. We should just stop expecting normality and go for the big apocalyptic scenario, because, it’s coming. Mary welcomes speaker, author and AI expert Scott Townsend to the podcast to talk about the concerning characteristics of AI. The word “artificial” should give us our first clue as to what kind, if any, intel is within. Scott has written extensively on why we should be extremely wary of the potential delusion that comes packaged with the “illusion”. A parrot can say that 2+2 is 4, but it doesn’t know why. In a similar way, AI can spout all sorts of learned input but has no idea the physical reality. AI can tell us when certain stars or planets will be predictably in our skies, but has no knowledge of the physics in motion to make it true. We look at patterns and inference in AI, and all the ways it fails the simplest sniff tests. Also for discussion, Scott’s gracious and heartfelt open letters to pastors, to challenge them to present prophecy biblically, as well as what we see in the news that obviously points to the season of Christ’s return. How is it that they don’t even have a working knowledge of Daniel, Ezekiel and Revelation? Is their approach to ministry more temporal than looking to our sure future? This week, President Trump expressed the idea that if he is able to settle the score between Putin and Zelenskyy and thereby save lives, wouldn’t that be enough to get into heaven? Back in 2016, Trump met with 1000 evangelicals in New York, presumably to secure the evangelical vote. Since then he has surrounded himself with various believers of different stripes, and somehow evangelicals conclude that Trump is a true believer. Of course, those with our wits about us know that is not a reasonable conclusion. The math is all wrong. We discuss the everlasting gospel in depth and the grace that surrounds it – and then we go through a list of things that are presented as representing the true gospel but in truth are counterfeits. How can we know the fake gospels? How can the church be armed with the ways to combat these insidious fakes? Central to our conversation is the famous passage in Daniel 9:27 – “and he shall confirm a covenant with (the) many…” Prophecy teachers have generally taught that to be a peace treaty, making anyone who facilitated such a covenant either the Antichrist, or associated with him. From time to time, it’s okay to step back from the pop prophecy that we have been taught and make sure we aren’t torturing the text. To make sure we can defend our position FROM the text. The techno people think they do or will rule the world. The Eurocrats definitely are on their way to ruling the world, because the Bible says so and they are all to willing to comply. The Demo-crats, ever power hungry and angry want to take back the rule of the US and will just keep getting angrier until they get their way. So today, lots of crats to go around. We also discuss the death of the small farm, how mobile devices render our kids stupid, and Costco’s decision not to carry the abortion pill. Mary welcomes guest Richie Furay for our first Testimony Tuesday, as we look at his full and storied life as a member of pioneering bands Buffalo Springfield and Poco.  With all that success, what drove him to his knees? How does a person reconcile or intersect the unique life of the spotlight, in the definitive 1960s no less, with the calling of a pastor and troubadour for Jesus? When he returned to Ohio for his Hall of Fame induction, he had a moment of clarity, that those two lives, and all the craziness, were both him, and God was in every moment. Sometimes we have a hard time reconciling our “two lives” as believers, we run from who we were in shame. But God. We talk to him about the early years, the fame years, and the ministry years. [Originally aired: 5/4/23] Chuck Girard, singer, songwriter, recording artist, and worship leader, is one of the pioneers of Contemporary Christian Music. He was co-founder and lead singer of the group LOVE SONG from it’s beginning to the present. Born in Los Angeles, Chuck began playing music at an early age. In his teens, he formed a group called THE CASTELLS, which had two national top 20 hits. They also released the song “I Do”, which was produced by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Chuck shared the stage with stars such as Roy Orbison, Jan and Dean, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bobby Vee, and others. This led to a successful career as a studio singer and musician which included singing the lead vocals on THE HONDELLS first two albums and their biggest hit, “Little Honda.” In his early twenties Chuck became disillusioned with life, and like so many of his generation began experimenting with drugs. This led to a five-year search for God through LSD, eastern religion, and a committed “hippie” lifestyle.  Rock & Roll Preacher – Chuck Girard After years of searching for meaning through drugs, Buddhism, sex, and Eastern philosophy, a long-haired hippie musician walked his bare feet into a little country church and encountered the living God. Confounded by the simplicity of the gospel, a young Chuck Girard dedicated his life to Jesus during the height of the sexual revolution and civil unrest that characterized the decade of the ’60s. Along with thousands of other “Jesus Freaks” who came to be known as the Jesus Movement, Chuck’s story was only just getting started.
