New Year, New You?
Hello fam!In this episode we discuss why we fail at New Years Resolutions and offer some handy tips and tricks to stay on track. We also discuss why many factors such as previous resolutions, enjoyment, pleasure, personality types and importance of a resolution may predict our adherence to our goals. We also acknowledge why sometimes New Years resolutions are too idealistic, and perhaps getting out of bed each morning and surviving day-to-day is goals enough. Maybe a New Year means nothing has to change and that is more than enough. The trait debate | the psychology of our personality
Hello lovely listeners! Ah yes, you've probably all shamefully taken those personality Facebook quizzes - which snack am I? Which Friends character would I mostly likely be? Which animal am I? As humans we all delight in knowing our personality and what clean cut box we fit into. There's a sense of shared camaraderie with others who share the same personality and we usually may conflict with those who share opposite traits. In this episode we divulge into different personality theories such as Type A vs. Type B, introvert vs. extrovert, the Big 5, the 16 Personality types + the Riso-Hudson Enneagram and discuss why we like to fit into a category and where our personality comes from. We also discuss the changing nature of personalities and how our parents and guardians have a significant impact on our personalities. We explore why so many personality theories are flawed and why our often changing and evolving personalities can't really ever fit into a clear cut neat little box.Take the online personality tests here the 16 Personality types (https://www.16personalities.com/) the Riso-Hudson Enneagram (https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/rhetiWe also discuss a question from our lovely listener about the anxiety provoked by attending a high school reunion. You can find more of us here: Our Online Psychology practice: Did you know we have online appointments available with our amazing therapists Lisa or Maddie. Men do cry | redefining masculinity and men’s mental health
Hello lovely listeners! Happy Tuesday! We had a request from a lovely listener who asked us to discuss the male experience of mental health. Also in the spirit of Movember - we thought it was an extremely important topic to put at the top of our list.In this episode, we dive deep into why toxic masculinity makes it so incredibly difficult for men to open up, and we explore why it is so imperative that we allow a safe space for men to open up. We also offer insight into why men (stereotypically) tend to internalise and project their emotions into risk taking behaviours, aggression, addiction etc. We offer some ideas + strategies into how to support mates, brothers, partners, fathers etc. who may be suffering from mental health.
