Dr. Suvrat Bhargave on Uproot shame and anxiety with this tool

Dr. Suvrat Bhargave is a renowned and respected educator, speaker, and board-certified psychiatrist, specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry. His uncanny ability to relate to a multi-demographic audience has allowed his practice to reach an unparalleled level of success based on empathy, education, and empowerment. Affectionately known for his "relatable expertise", Dr. Bhargave is highly sought after to lecture locally and nationally on a broad range of topics pertaining to personal growth, effective parenting, relationship satisfaction, and mental health conditions. After completing his residency training and specialty fellowship from Duke University, Dr. B (as he is lovingly called by his patients) continued his practice in hospitals, community health, and private practice settings. Throughout the years, he has been most inspired by the impact his caring nature, education, and treatment has had on others to facilitate change and to experience fulfillment through gradual but dynamic moments of "insight and awareness". A passionate advocate for healing and empowerment, Dr. B is compelled to bring a world of change to each person one moment at a time. He is the author of 'A Moment of Insight'. You can find Dr. B at www.amomentofinsight.com. We all struggle with the same dilemmas. We all question life's purpose. We all feel overwhelmed. We all doubted our worthiness. While A Moment of Insight shines the spotlight on our collective wounds, it also dispenses the collective wisdom of thousands of seekers who dared to be vulnerable within the safe space of a psychiatrist's office. Through patient stories and personal accounts, this recollection takes the reader on a journey to calm the mind, fortify the spirit, and release the burdens of life. Each chapter offers practical strategies and thought-provoking narratives to not only understand and persevere through challenging dilemmas but to see a greater purpose in these times. At the beginning of every journey is the moment that incites change…a Moment of Insight. Things You'll Learn From This Episode Find your 5 gifts! Give yourself a deadline and make it a fun discovery where you can uncover the gifts that have always been there. Once identified, test them out on difficult days to see that these are part of your identity. Your identified gifts act as a way to switch your filter from 'not good enough' to feeling good about who you are. Treat yourself as you would treat others, i.e. start speaking kindly to yourself and notice when you're not. The root of anxiety is doubt and shame. Learning to focus on what you're grateful for during anxious times can uproot the past shame and give yourself the space to plant new seeds of hope and inner peace. Make a decision to use at least one of your gifts every day and watch what happens. You can continue the conversation with Dr. B on Facebook @amomentofinsight and www.amomentofinsight.com. Did You Know Yoga Can Heal Your Body? with Dr. Steffany Moonaz

Dr. Steffany Moonaz is a yoga therapist and researcher in Baltimore, MD and serves as Director of Clinical and Academic Research at the Maryland University of Integrative Health. She became curious about the importance of mind-body activities at a young age and has always had a passion and a curiosity about the healing power of mindful movement. She completed undergraduate work in biology and dance at Oberlin College, earned a MFA from University of Maryland as well as a CMA from the Laban Institute and spent eight years at Johns Hopkins University, helping to develop and evaluate a yoga program for individuals with the chronic diseases of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, which became the basis for her PhD in public health. Along with ongoing research collaborations at the National Institutes of Health, Einstein, Sinai and Montefiore Hospitals in New York, and University of Maryland, Dr. Moonaz is working to bring yoga to people with arthritis in communities around the country, as well as educating yoga teachers and yoga therapists about the unique needs of this population. She currently leads Yoga for Arthritis teacher training programs nationwide and serves as a mentor for several emerging researchers who are working to study the effects of yoga for various health conditions. Dr. Moonaz's work has been covered by Time, HuffPost, the Baltimore Sun, and U.S. News and World Report. She has been invited to speak at Emory University, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Johns Hopkins Palliative Care, and the Smithsonian. Her Arthritis-Friendly Yoga DVD, produced by the Arthritis Foundation, has been their best-selling product since its release in 2013. Her book, Yoga Therapy for Arthritis: A whole-person approach to movement and lifestyle is now available on Amazon, other bookstores and on Steffany's website: www.arthritis.yoga. Things You'll Learn From This Episode Yoga is not just about your practice on the mat. The word yoga means union and it is about a state of being where you are present, awake and aware. Practicing yoga can expand to how you're nourishing your body, getting enough rest, thoughts you are allowing in as well as the actual physical yoga movements. Studies and research shows that having a yoga practice on the mat can positively affect your health, how you view your health (and if you have a disease) and you're the overall quality of life. Take your health into your own hands and become your best advocate. A way to do this is to form a care team, which might include finding a Functional Medical Doctor, as well as other integrative healing practitioners who can help support your wellbeing. It's important to know good, reliable sources of medical information, especially as it relates to autoimmune conditions like arthritis. Major universities like Harvard, Berkley, and Stanford have Public Health resources to check out. WebMD is a decent source, as is MindBodyGreen (one of my faves) Yoga not only effects your physical health as well as mobility, balance, flexibility, and strength but it also affects your nervous system. Pain is registered in the nervous system from the brain to whatever area of your body expeirences pain. Yoga helps to tamper your nervous system to feel less pain and stress. Enjoying the show? If I'm Being Honest with Katie Crenshaw

Katie is a thirty-something mom of three living in Atlanta. She started her popular blog in 2015 as a platform to share new perspectives and to build community. In 2016 her open letter to critics of her daughter's facial deformity went viral. This emotional piece reached audiences all over the world by way of Good Morning America, CNN, Inside Edition, and more. In 2019 she took her love for the human experience to new heights and launched a podcast, If I'm Being Honest with Katie Crenshaw. Her mission continues to be a voice for the voiceless by humanizing marginalized lifestyles and experiences. You can find more about Katie and her amazing articles at katiecrenshaw.com. She unapologetically speaks her truth, colors outside the lines, believes in taking risks, and advocates for vulnerability. Katie maintains her unique voice with a consistent undercurrent of humor and authenticity. Her work has been featured in large publications such as Good Housekeeping, Redbook, and Cosmopolitan. She is an active content creator for Scary Mommy and The Huffington Post. What I love about Katie is how darn real and vulnerable she is. We talked a lot about changing the body positivity game for women and how her post-partum photo reached across the US and beyond. Things You'll Learn From This Episode People can't hurt you with your truth. When it's your truth, own it and don't worry what others think. On living your most badass life, Katie thinks about what people would say at her funeral and reverse engineers from there. This helps her to take action even when uncomfortable or afraid. For those of us who have struggled with body image issues - focus on what your body does, not how it looks. You can join the incredible tribe of women sharing photos, as she said from naked to Burkas, sharing what your body has done for you at #herbodycan Make sure you have a supportive network with a real connection The best way to feel good is to elevate others. The Loud Blonde on Owning Your Voice with Kelly Cochran

Kelly Cochran is the unapologetic writer, speaker, and CEO of Loud Blonde, a marketing company helping female entrepreneurs bring bold businesses to life online. Kelly is passionate about encouraging women to listen to their instincts and speak their truth at the highest volume. Her hold-no-punches attitude sheds refreshing light on subjects most women are dying to—but too fearful to—talk about. Kelly is the author of LOUD: Silence Your Critics & Turn Up the Volume on Your Life, a hilarious self-help book for any woman dying to ditch the doubt and tune into her own boldest inner voice once and for all. Learn more about Kelly and download a free chapter of her book at loudblonde.com/book What I loved about this conversation is the focus on seeing your 'weaknesses', in Kelly's case being loud and getting fired from past jobs, as an asset. She turned it around and saw that her loud voice could be used to help other women to uncover their own voice. She got ok with getting out of the box, drawing outside of the lines and embracing how she was wired. Our intention is for you to do the same in your life. Here are some key take-aways which I hope inspire and uplift you: Ways to tune into your inner voice is to get quiet. This can be tough when we are always rushing and busy. Whether it's meditating or taking a walk, make sure to get time daily to really pause and be still. You can't hear your voice amidst all the other noise. When you're overly busy, look at the why underneath...are you trying to not deal with something or keep busy to avoid an emotion or feeling? Be on the look out for using busy to cope with life. Journaling, as well as doodling and drawing, are great ways to allow your subconscious to play and connect with you. Rather than journaling with a question, just sit back and see what comes up. "Lean into your wiring. It's time to blaze your own trail. You're not broken, you've just got to fully embrace and accept your distinct and unique wiring." Bernadette is also a woman of color who comes from a long line of natural healers who have used touch and movement to help others find peace, empowerment, and wellness. Her classrooms welcome without judgment and support participants' paths to finding comfort in their own skin. In the Femme! Experience, Bernadette creates a safe space for all ages, backgrounds, body types and dance skills to explore their sensual selves. Everyone is empowered to fully embrace and embody all of their emotions and fully express them through movement; joy, sorrow, rage, ecstasy and more are all welcome at Femme!. In Femme! everyone is infused with the affirmation, "It's your body; you can do whatever you want with it-including love it unapologetically!" I attended a Femme! workshop in Baltimore and it was incredibly healing on a cellular level. I can't recommend this kind of movement healing modality enough...she is the real deal! Things You'll Learn From This Episode Emotions are like weather, nothing is good or bad, just is. Allow yourself to prepare for your emotions like you would for a storm, hot day or snowfall. Your body is meant to move and process all emotions. We are emotional beings and are often too stuck in our head. Emotions don't live in your head, they take space in your physical body. Give yourself time and room to move and process all emotions. If you're new to processing and moving through emotions, start with baby steps like standing in front of a mirror and allowing yourself to move, connect to your eyes and body and see how your body likes to flow. Find drumming or a primal beat to move to and feel the healing with each movement. Animals shake off excess energy after they encounter a near-death experience (ex, if a Gazelle is chased by a Lion, it would need to shake off afterwards). We are the same in that we process stress and often don't make time to shake it off. Like the song, you literally want to give yourself space to 'shake it out and off'. It helps to reset your nervous system. Samantha Moultrup on Being a Psychic Medium

Samantha Moultrup is a mom of two, entrepreneur and psychic intuitive. She is able to access higher consciousness to deliver messages, guidance and empowering information. You can learn more about Samantha and dive deeper with her at: www.thesoultherapist.com or in her Facebook group @thesoultherapist where she does impromptu readings, shares inspirational messages and connects. Ok, my friends, this is one of my favorite topics to explore and in this convo, we go pretty darn deep. Hope you enjoy, and feel free to reach out to Sam with any Q's or thoughts after listening. Things You'll Learn From This Episode Every one of us has intuition and the ability to cultivate it. We'll get into ways to do this. One of the first things you can do is to start tuning in to your gut feelings. Notice when you have one, where you feel it, what you are hearing or sensing and take note of what happened when you listened (or didn't listen). Other ways to cultivate your intuition: start to ask your guides (angels, higher consciousness or whatever you call this team of support) for little things. Sam talked about asking for a parking spot near the shopping carts so it was easier with her children. Start with small asks. Share your experiences with safe and trusted friends, and keep a journal where you can write down what's happening, your feelings and experiences and any signs or symbols you're noticing. Journaling allows you to go back and review what has happened. We are all made of energy and energy is contagious (whether it's positive or negative energy). You will attract the same energy that you are emitting. The more time you take to take care of your self and your wellbeing, the more you'll be able to access your gifts, talents, and intuition. *Share what you are struggling with or looking to transform with Julie at podcast@juliereisler.com. This experience changed her life, and today she now lives out of her comfort zone and taking on fear with excitement and unabashed readiness. Be comfortable with risk and stop playing safe, and instead tune in to your heart and intuition...there lies your deepest connection to yourself and the world. Make a list of everything you're scared of doing or want to do in your life, and start finding ways to manifest each one. Life is in the now. Reframe fear and see it as excitement and build your muscle and comfortability with the unknown...there lies your best life. JJ is such an inspiration and warrior for taking on your life with power, intention, love, deep self-care and meaning. I was moved to tears listening to what she had to go through. Things You'll Learn From This Episode There is no someday or tomorrow, you must own your health NOW. You are personally responsible for your health. It is the most important asset you have. Take care of this first as you never know when you'll need to face a challenge and your health will be a saving grace. If you can't do it for yourself or struggle with self-worth, find an excellent coach who can help you around self-worth. Pay more than you normally will so you pay attention. (Ok friends, if you are looking for a coach to work with you, I would love to be on that journey and/or can recommend some amazing other coaches) Choose one thing at a time to focus on with making health changes or losing weight. Use the principals of 'The One Thing' (see the episode with Jay Papasan as a reference on this book) and keep your eyes on one thing. Stay in gratitude, especially around the most challenging times. This will be a game changer and can shift how you feel about yourself and life. With weight loss, if you struggle with food addiction or addictive foods, keep the triggers out of your house and understand there is no margin of error. Eating, unlike drinking alcohol, is a must. Find foods that nourish you but don't trigger you. See JJ's cookbook for great ideas. *Share what you are struggling with or looking to transform with Julie at podcast@juliereisler.com.
